Well that was the most awkward family dinner ever!
Sehoon actually does something of note of this episode... Yes, he mows Jeongwon down with his Genesis. I wonder if Jeongwon is going to die for real or if we're going to go through another round of watching her lie in a coma....? Or we could make this interesting and have Hyera and Haneul fake her death and use that as a way to psychologically break Sehoon and Youngchae...
I hope Hyera feels guilty AF next episode because this wouldn't have happened if she didn't let Taeseok out. "We can't try him or report him." Yeah that's why Jeongwon's original idea was better... psychologically torture him while keeping him tied up... You know, taking matters into your own hands, instead of relying on the authorities? It becomes confusing because that's why Hyera let him out anyway... I guess this is a pride thing where she HAS to be the one to kill him
Side note I was definitely rolling my eyes when she was asking Jeongwon why they couldn't meet after 25 years. Hyera, YOU are why you & Jeongwon couldn't meet after 25 years π the only good part about this whole plotline was seeing Minjeong jumping to action with her tranquilizer pen
Nice juxtaposition between Nansook's conversation with Haneul and her conversation with Youngchae.. Although that makes me wonder, if Sangcheol never died, would she had completely abandoned Youngchae? I do like how this drama is subverting parent and child (bio/non bio) relationships.
Manager Hwang is super persistent and it's kind of annoying how he keeps popping up at Mihyang's store. But at least next episode we get a scene of Mihyang running up on Taeseok, like that will actually do anything!
So "Where in the world is Jin Taeseok" only lasted one episode.
Sehoon using Taeseok's "logic" against him was pretty entertaining because I definitely remember when Taeseok would drop that advice to him earlier in the series. (I also believe there's a twist involved with this slush fund... No way did Taeseok give him complete control of that....)
Seems like shit is going to get real (again) - if the foreshadowing by Grandma/Chef Hong and the tarot reading didn't clue you in, we're heading towards ... Taeseok going nuclear, something happening because of it, and whatever it will be, it will leave Jeongwon with a lot of angst. (Her last card was 10 of swords which equals like angst, darkness and depression).
Oh but the true highlight of this episode was Jeongwon slapping Youngchae and telling her off lmao. Especially since Sehoon hasn't had feelings for Jeongwon in a while and Jeongwon is CLEARLY into Haneul π
The preview... Taeseok proclaiming he's immortal, yeah he's about to go off the deep end lmaoooo
Kang-Jae was wildin out 24/7, it was almost hilarious to watch π chaos incarnate!I loved Eun-Jae's training…
Yes! I've been thinking about rewatching it for a while now but I loved the premise, and the fact that Eunjo/Gaheon went NUCLEAR after Jina got killed.
When she killed Serin's dad and didn't flinch that's when I picked up on how hardcore she was. Or the psychological head games she pulled on Hara and Serin, who got served with one of the worst fates I've seen a kdrama daily villain end up with ... Or the fact that the series ends with her getting locked up because she went THAT far with her revenge. I didn't like the ending when it aired but in retrospect, I liked it because a true revenge incarnate gets revenge no matter the costs or the consequences. Jina dying spurned one of the best kdrama revenge tours I've ever seen lol
First of all I'm very happy with how fast the whole "Jeongwon is Taeseok's daughter" truth got revealed.…
By assassinate Jeongwon's character I mean the screenwriter forgets ALL the development ALL the legwork Jeongwon put in... to completely have her act out of character or something, ie her forgiving Taeseok and they become Father-Daughter duo of the year lol. But I have trust in this screenwriter that she won't do that
Manager Hwang dying would be the ultimate atonement for what he did to the original Jeongwon. Although Youngchae and Sehoon dying is what's probably best for their characters - they aren't reaching Final Boss status and I don't want them to get redeemed lol.
I forgot Jina is supposed to be feeding Hyera information and she's cunning too (I think this is why I like her better than Sunghee who is clearly the most upright person on the design team)
I wonder how Nansuk would react to Youngchae's death tbh like she clearly favors Haneul but she'd definitely mourn.
We're in the part of the drama where the story is starting to pick up I really hope the Olympics don't take away from the momentum π
And you're welcome! The whole car accident situation is a doozy!
First of all I'm very happy with how fast the whole "Jeongwon is Taeseok's daughter" truth got revealed.…
Oh yes - Haneul really locked tf in, him luring Taeseok out with the intention of killing him made me do a double take π I NEVER would've thought the Haneul from the beginning would do that ???
I agree there's no way that Taeseok is making it out this drama alive lol I wouldn't be surprised if he gets run over by Nansook at the end? (Since I doubt Nansook will end up as a free woman lol)
There's no way Youngchae and/or Sehoon are reaching Final Boss status. I don't even want them too because they're the weakest links right now. Its not even fun watching them play pretend. I think one will die and the other will end up in jail. Or maybe they both will get busted for embezzlement or something lol
The whole Manager Hwang and Mihyang thing reminds me of Queen's House, when Yookyung admitted to Seungwoo that she signed off on Jaein's psychiatric stay. They didn't end up together in the end and I wonder what direction A Graceful Liar is going to take this in?
The actor who plays Taeseok is chilling at this role. Especially when he talks about his "flower" like that's one of the more chilling monologues I've seen in a daily drama. I will never get over the fact that he was the friendly grandfather in Cinderella Game lol as for Taeseok I'm invested in his downfall.
Especially since I agree with you and think Taeseok will escape (I think next episode, Taeseok will BS Sehoon about his birth mom just to manipulate Sehoon into being set free) and Taeseok WILL be back with a vengeance.
Provided the writer doesn't completely assassinate Jeongwon's character she is probably my favorite daily drama FL. In fact, I'm thinking of making a list of the dailies with my favorite female leads...
And yes I thought Lee Dohyun was a man at first too lol Shin Eunkyung is a major reason why I want to watch that drama I feel like she would absolutely body a tvN daily drama FL (and how I wish tvN made more dailies π)
Oh and the car accident thing is like: Hyera was so tormented between the choice of living as Youngsun, the wife of a murderer (which she REALLY didn't want to do) or going to Taeseok, especially since Taeseok wasn't going to accept Sooa. So the accident was her way of "bartering with the heavens" where if she died, she would die for the sin of considering to abandon her xaughter, or if she lived, she would take it as God giving her "permission" to marry Taeseok. So she paid off the truck driver. However, Taeseok found out via Minjeong and asked her to bring the truck driver to him. Taeseok then told the truck driver to "not kill her". The entire scenario is peak makjang and I love it lol)
Kang-Jae was wildin out 24/7, it was almost hilarious to watch π chaos incarnate!I loved Eun-Jae's training…
I just caught up today and I'm right there with you where if the writer doesn't mess this up, AGL will become top 5 favorite makjangs, along with The Promise, Miss Montecristo, Ice Adonis and Game of Witches lol (it would push out Glass Mask)
If something happens to Nansuk (I low-key got nervous when she got the blood test done) I'll probably take like 3 stars off my final review like don't get me wrong I like Jeongwon as a FL (her kidnapping Taeseok with the intent of psychologically torturing him is hardcore. I hope she pulls a daily drama first and DOES NOT forgive that man) but Nansuk is probably the only case where I'm rooting for the bad guy lol (even tho I know it won't end like that π)
I purposely didn't watch any of the episodes this week because I wanted to binge watch today and I was not disappointed
First of all I'm very happy with how fast the whole "Jeongwon is Taeseok's daughter" truth got revealed. There was no bs-ing, no drawn out reveals, the "birth secret" itself made sense (hello Woman in a Veil) and no unnecessary angst. Shout out to Nansook, Hyera, and Haneul for getting things done, I even have to give Manager Gu his flowers for getting in on the action (when he knocked Taeseok out LOL)
I initially was not a fan of this twist but I LOVE the fact that Taeseok didn't automatically turn into father of the year, as long lost relatives suddenly becoming lovey dovey after spending most/all of the drama trying to kill each other is one of my LEAST favorite makjang tropes (it low-key ruined Meant to Be). In fact I like how he's been pretty open about him wanting to kill Jeongwon (blood ties be damned) and I like how this apparently the ONE line that can't be crossed. You know you've messed up when you have Nansook doing a double take. Also hope that Jeongwon continues stands on "Kibeom is my only dad" until the end. I do NOT want to see any father-daughter bonding from them. It took me a while to accept Hyera and Jeongwon but Taeseok and Jeongwon is a hard NO!
Jeongwon kidnapping Taeseok is pretty ruthless of her (I DO wish he would've remained in Nansook's basement for a bit longer, it killed me how she referred to him as λμ) , even tho it looks like on Monday Sehoon is going to locate him. Speaking of Sehoon he still manages to bore me even despite learning the truth behind his mother's death. Although, it was funny when Nansook said "I'll make you chairman" and Sehoon perked up like a cat when you shake a container of Temptations. He's really the easiest character to manipulate in this show and he fits with Youngchae as they are both Chihuahuas barking at Dobermans (meaning their parents, Jeongwon and Haneul etc). Now that Youngchae has gotten exposed I guess she will become Sehoon's sole ally (well, as strong of an ally one can be in A Graceful Liar land haha)
Manager Hwang is slick for trying to romance Mihyang when he killed her daughter. He's supposed to be good but I found his retelling of the hit and run to be chilling ... you watched a little girl get hit by a car and assumed she would live. (But she died since she seemed to be sickly, going off what Mihyang implied and the flashbacks from the beginning of the drama. But that doesn't take away from the fact that you watched a completely innocent little girl get hit by a car and didn't do anything!) I guess him working for Jeongwon is his way of repenting? I don't care about him and Mihyang as a couple but I do care that Jeongwon has acquired a secretary. She's in the big leagues now.
Hyera drinking the poison was wild but I'm glad she didn't end up in a coma (how funny the mom and daughter both end up in multi episode comas) and it's cool how this seemed to be the event that pushed Semi to refer to Jeongwon as μΈλ. Now where do we go from here? I hope semi is just providing lip service when she said she won't give up on Haneul, because that kind of juvenile love triangle crap will drag the drama down (just like it did at the end of Queens House SMH)
Taeseok getting demoted to honorary chairman, a title with no power, is the PERFECT punishment for someone as ego driven and power hungry as him. Its pretty ironic lol. However, him talking to Minjeong about Hyera was chilling because he really doesn't view Hyera as a person but as a possession. "She's a delicate flower that I cultivated" relax Michealangelo, get over yourself. Wake up and realize that your delicate flower turned out to be a Venus Flytrap
I've already talked about the whole "Hyera paying someone to hit her so she can abandon her daughter guilt-free" and how off the wall it is but now there's another layer - Taeseok DID know but he made sure Hyera wouldn't die. I hope that truck driver got a huge payout because this is one hell of a scenario to find yourself involved in π
Minjeong's betrayal is going to come out eventually, but more importantly, the fact that Sehoon is not Taeseok's son! I wonder how that will be revealed? Sehoon getting into an accident and needing a blood transfusion OR will Taeseok straight up tell him? So many questions but there's still 5 weeks left. Buckle up!
Lee Dohyun is quickly becoming one of my favorite screenwriters too. Loved Game of Witches, I've loved A Graceful Liar since episode 1, and if I end up loving Secrets and Lies? She'll be three for three π (gotta get my Korean listening comprehension skills up before I try to watch Family Secrets)
As a Flyers fan I had to laugh at the sports bar in Philadelphia being filled with Pittsburgh Penguins and Sidney Crosby posters (this would absolutely never happen in real life LMFAO) the Flyers are so bad that the PDs completely skipped over getting their paraphernalia πππ
A for effort I suppose
Commentary that's relevant to the story: Hanryu is really putting himself through it to fund Dahae's lifestyle. (The scene where his ex-boss made him crawl on the floor like a dog???) Man this inevitable betrayal is going to cut deep
I've seen 100+ episode makjangs that feature the "studying abroad = adultery" trope and it's nice seeing a condensed version
Also idk why but I feel like Dohoon is actually Dokyung's son and not her brother. One thing is for sure, she's about to be mad as hell that he's been shacking up with Dahae in America lol
I'd love for that to happen. Jung-Won said she was thinking about it, at least! Plus, imagine the looks on Young-Chae…
Honestly I am right there with you! If they aren't going to help their moms with their hostile takeover (I would prefer watching Jeongwon and Haneul working with Nansook and Hyera than Jeongwon and Haneul working with Mihyang and Manager Hwang) I just hope they stay out the way like the moms are literally doing this for THEM, don't sabotage the cause!
I looked up Lee Shia's Instagram, and she looks so much like Park Hana with the brown bob cut! Seems like Jung-Won…
Honestly the only reason why I care about Sehoon's arc at this point is I'm looking forward to the meltdown he will have when he finds out that he is actually NOT a member of the Kunhyang family. I'm not rooting for him at all.
I don't hate youngchae (it takes A LOT for me to dislike villainous 2FLs) but she needs to realize that she's not built for this (scheming) at all lol. If any character gets a redemption I would hope it's her ... But I'm not holding my breath tbh
Seems like today's episode (74) she's gonna get exposed for faking being pregnant (honestly I keep forgetting until other characters point it out) so hopefully this ends with her getting kicked out the house...
Kang-Jae was wildin out 24/7, it was almost hilarious to watch π chaos incarnate!I loved Eun-Jae's training…
Right now I actually prefer A Graceful Liar over Queens House lol
I feel like the stakes are way higher in a A Graceful Liar so it's more interesting. The antagonsts are way better, and Queens House fumbled the last arc with that stupid love triangle.
(Also, A Graceful Liar has Nansook! Who is probably my favorite makjang villain of all time now lol I low-key want her to win, morals be damned π)
I looked up Lee Shia's Instagram, and she looks so much like Park Hana with the brown bob cut! Seems like Jung-Won…
Oh yeah life is way too short to be getting mad at dramas??? lmao like go punch a pillow if you need to relieve stress that badly π
Haneul choosing to join the fight against Taeseok is the best thing that happened to his character tbh, especially when you consider how he's a very good foil to Sehoon, who just feels like a fish out of water when it comes to these chaebol games lol
Haneul going along with the press conference, ACTUALLY naming Taeseok and then not backing down when Taeseok confronted him afterwards was EVERYTHING
I think the ONLY reason why no one questioned the blood type thing is because everyone is under duress because…
When I came up with that scenario I figured that there's no way Jin Taeseok is going to make it to the end of this drama alive (I'll be very surprised if he does) so the screenwriter should go hard and make his final arc memorable
Like seriously if this ends with a Jin Taeseok redemption I'll be shocked
I need to finish the two sisters lol. Last I remember of Bae Doeun she was still scheming to become Hyewon's MIL (I actually liked Doeun better than Hyewon at that point) But I dropped it. I think I dropped it before the screenwriter changed lol. But hey if I got through woman in a veil I can absolutely get through the two sisters ππ
I've never left a comment on this drama... so I might as well share my thoughts on this one
This is probably the darkest daily drama I've watched in a while. The vibes of the posters are very fitting. Like most dailies, there's gag scenes, but unlike most dailies, the gag scenes are few and far between (One of the gag characters actually gets killed off ??? LMFAOOOO)
This is one of those rare dailies where the ML is the main character. I think the last one I've seen was Man in a Veil. Seo Hajoon is our lead, he's on a path for revenge after his mother went missing under mysterious circumstances. Oh and if that's not enough, his sister gets murdered too...
The villains are something else. I've always liked Lee Seungyeon but I've become an even bigger fan since her performance in A Graceful Liar (highly recommend btw) but Sookjin is THE final boss here. I knew it once she was willing to commit ELECTION FRAUD for her golden child Taehyung. Taehyung himself is the kind of ambitious that's fun to watch
The FLs are Taehee and Juhong. Taehee is actually my favorite character just because I sympathize with the abuse she gets. Juhong comes off as bit of a Mary Sue but she's kind of getting interesting now that she married into the family.
I low-key feel bad saying this but Sol freaks me out for some reason (I will absolutely pause a show if the child character annoys me, see Nino from Cruel Temptation lmao) and that's kind of why I put this on pause for a second. However, I came across some interesting spoilers that make me want to circle back to this...
I also have a strong suspicion that Taehyung isn't actually Sookjin's son. If so, that's going to be some insane karma........
Sehoon actually does something of note of this episode... Yes, he mows Jeongwon down with his Genesis. I wonder if Jeongwon is going to die for real or if we're going to go through another round of watching her lie in a coma....?
