Time for my weekly comment ...! Seems like the sponsorship storyline has been put to the back burner for this "fake screenwriter" plot... I'm not a fan of it but I do enjoy seeing Director Na and Sunae lay the smackdown on Jeongin over the implications of changing screenwriters. On a similar note, my eyes rolled back into my head when Woojin came to Seolah's studio and tried to comfort her over the scandal... Iike ummm SIR, aren't you supposed to be engaged to juryeon? I'll be glad when this love triangle ends.
I also realize that we're now more than halfway through the drama and there's no sign that the murder in episode 1 is coming soon... (I'm assuming that poker face is a 100+ episode daily drama) I wonder if that's how the series ends? We'll find out... Well, maybe I won't. This has been getting harder to watch every week lol. But seriously, my prediction is that Jeongin gets murdered between episode 70-85....
Btw, as a regular watcher of revenge dailies, I live for scenes where the FL verbally squares off against the evil character she's getting revenge on (so in this case, Jeongin) but with baek seola it feels like watching a Chihuahua bark at a German Shepherd. But that might also be because, like I said in my last comment, the reason for revenge just feels so low stakes... It could've been written better. It doesn't help that I'm also watching other revenge dramas right now and all of those have higher stakes reasons for revenge lol
Considering dropping this but I'm too invested for the time being. I like director na and his mom so I at least want to see how things end for them... and completely unrelated to the plot, but I high-key use Juryeons outfits as inspiration when I buy clothes these days haha....
At this point, the subplot with the escort/sponsor scandal is more interesting to me than this whole love triangle with Seolah, Juryun, and Jinho. Same with Seolah avenging her father's death.
Sunae & Director Nah is still the best part of this drama. I feel like I fast forwarded through scenes of Seolah's family more than I did in previous weeks as well
After I finish elegant empire I think I might start red shoes, since they have the same writer (and Choi Myung-gil) and speaking of elegant empire.. I think I just realized my issue with the drama ... in EE the reason why the FL wants revenge is way more meaningful than Seolah's... which is probably why the whole Seolah getting revenge on Jinho thing falls flat to me.... it's too low stakes
Currently binge watching this ... Jaclyn Taylor may be my favorite makjang second lead of all time... Woohyuk…
I'm on episode 76 and I went in with the knowledge that the ML gets replaced around episode 30... while the first actor was EXCELLENT (and it's a shame this was his most recent role, I found him so charismatic) I hope he's okay), the second actor ... I'm biased because I enjoyed him in man in a veil, but seeing him play someone as fantastically evil as giyun has been so entertaining!
It's been a while, but yes, I'm still here... watching while I knit lol
Never would I thought that they would go *there* with the sponsor subplot. Sunae is truly pulling the strings with her revenge... like Jeongin doesn't realize that she and her golden boy are getting played. 10000% chance this sponsorship deal comes back to bite them.
I am over Seolah and Woojins story... and so I mainly watch this for Director Na, Sunae (my favorite characters), Seok-ki, juryun and Jeongin. As far as side characters go, I like Eunbyeol too. Some people have drama OTPs, and at this point my Snow White's Revenge OTP is Director Na and a daesang for directing poker face lol
PS: I still believe that this is better than the two sisters (although that's not saying much lol)! I don't even think I made it to episode 44 for that one π₯΄
Definitely a slow burn but I'm not complaining. I debated reading the webtoon before watching this but I decided to go in blind.
If I had to guess, Sunhee is taking the fall for Kyungho's murder because of her debt towards Suyeon ... It's safe to say that Suyeon is mentally unstable due to the consequences of the fire
Looking forward to seeing the parents do more in next week's episodes. I don't really have much to say as the last two episodes were mostly flashbacks and exposition that "set the stage"
With the Olympic hiatus happening now I purposely waited until now to watch the most recent eps... And it's finally happening. Jinho has recovered his memories and joined the dark side! Seolah telling Jinho that Jeongin and Taechang killed her dad and Jinho being like "why should I care"? Oh he's ice cold!!!
Episode 31 preview shows that he has fully lost the plot (slapping seolah) so I'll be back sometime next week. In the meantime, I'll be making my way through elegant empire...
Oh and someone tell Juryun that getting proposed to with the ring meant for your partners ex isn't the flex she thinks it is π
Glad JW isn't actually Jeongin's son because things would have gotten extremely weird lol. I will just chalk him…
Just rewatched episode 1 and I'm changing my prediction to the female scriptwriter... I think she killed Jeongin. Also realized that there are several characters that are shown that haven't been introduced yet... such as the aforementioned female scriptwriter (who was apparently fired for "embezzlement") and there's a guy played by the same actor who played Sangchul in The Third Marriage who gave Jeongin the threatening note (and has a spider tattoo on his hand)
With the Olympic hiatus coming up, it'll be interesting to see where we leave off on Friday's episode. I hope…
Glad JW isn't actually Jeongin's son because things would have gotten extremely weird lol. I will just chalk him having the same mole as the original WJ as pure coincidence... for now.
Unsurprisingly, (going off of the ~makjang drama playbook~) Juryun and Jinwoo are getting married. This will 100% be a recipe for disaster because it's so obvious that Jinwoo doesn't like her! In fact, Juryun's "love" for him feels more like an infatuation. When the two visited Taechang to talk marriage and Jinwoo responded with silence in response to 'do you want to marry Juryun?' that said it all
(My opinion of course but I don't see what either Seolah or Juryun see in him. Juryun getting in the bed with him and the subsequent drama from that gave me secondhand embarrassment. I don't like Jinwoo much but that's weirdo behavior)
so we get several more scenes of Seolah being sad over this... I can't wait until we move past this point in the story. Like helloooo director Na is right there!
Speaking of director Na, I can't be the only person who thought that he was Sunae's older son (and she changed his name after the divorce from Taechang...) but it's been revealed that he died from being sick. So that's Sunae's MO for revenge... I'm more interested in that side of the story right now. Although I find it interesting that Taechang was able to recognize Sunae but Jeongin wasn't (unless I'm misremembering). One thing is for sure, the min family is pretty messy. Their inevitable downfall will be very interesting
Looks like for today's (7/24) episode, Seulki is going to pick up on the fact that the TV shopping incident was staged. Jinwoo seems to have finally remembered Seolah... at the worst possible time. (due to the marriage with Juryun) I am so curious how the relationships change from now to the night of Jeongin's murder. (I'll have to rewatch ep 1) Idk if it's too early to make predictions but I think Taechang is behind it... Seolah will probably be framed for it though.
Side note; I know I'm not the only person who fast forwards through the American aunt's scenes π
Y'all know that meme where it's the lady "thinking" and it shows hardcore mathematical equations?
That's me (I got caught up with this week's episodes)... It seems like Jinho is getting closer to Seolah... But at the same time, he is still an amnesiac... which makes me wonder WHAT exactly happens to move him into enemy territory (see: episode 1) ... things are coming together... but I know I can't be the only one who is wondering how we go from where we are now, to the events that lead to Jeongin getting murdered!
