I'm in agreement with you re:the teen storylines in penthouse. The only thing I really liked was the parallel between Yoonhee vs Seoju vs Rona vs Eunbyeol but only when it came to the art school /opera rivalry. The love triangle (as it does 95% of the time for me) between Rona Eunbyeol and Seokkyung's brother (forgot his name lmaoo) was when I lost interest... I was way more into watching joo dantae and friends trying to take over the world 😭

Return is DEFINITELY scratching that itch for me tho ... I am seated

Jihoon being Dushim's son is the plot twist i was referring to in Fatal Promise. the subplot is so boring to me and i feel like it's just dushim looking sad all the time lol Eundong vs Everybody is way more interesting to me!

I'm watching the brave yong sujeong which I liked however a certain plot twist put the drama in limbo for me...

Fatal promise is good although I could do without jihoon and dushim's storyline. I'm expecting Hyewon and Junhyuk's downfall to add 10 years to my life lol

Non dailies I'm still watching king of ambition although kocowa has been recommending the drama "the innocent man" to me and it sounds right up my alley

Once I finish one of the many dailies on my watch list I'm also considering rewatching gold mask because it's written by the same woman who wrote queens House

And possibly actually finishing gracious revenge because the premise is interesting and it's written by the same woman who wrote Cinderella game

Chloe arrives and Yuna is already sweating lmaooo she's very bad at this villain thing. Chloe coming for Yuna should be iconic but it feels... diluted. Idk why but the Chloe Lee reveal felt weirdly anticlimactic to me

These gag scenes are very annoying. Jeongran and her driver, James and Danhee's friend/assistant (their love line is going to be PAINFUL), and that one scene where Taeho shoved Jeongran out the way... I hear those stupid sound effects and the temperature drops 10 degrees. I've got too much stuff on my watch list to be watching this shit lmao I don't do sitcoms.

Okay yeah wow I can't get into this drama. Maybe it's because the drama moved so fast? Several of the characters feel like miscasts (they take me out the drama like the entire Choi family) the gag scenes are awful and excessive. I still like Danhee Hyunjun and Taeho but I cannot reiterate enough that the flaws are taking me out the story 😭

It's been real hopefully I like the next one better ✌🏾

This storyline with Yuna trying to marry Minjun is like watching paint dry... I can't connect to either character. Minjun annoys me because he has no personality and Yuna annoys me because of her tantrums and screeching (and normally I LIKE the antagonistic female characters!!!)

I've given up on Jeongran or her driver becoming serious threats

I'm on episode 14 I'm going to give this until chloe shows up. Maybe that'll make this thing wake up already...

I fear I might not make it past the end of the week lol I really hope the writer isn't rushing through the exposition with the hopes of Jinju's love triangle carrying the bulk of the drama

Today's episode got a 7.7% viewership rating which is the lowest so far but I wonder how much of that is due to audience dissatisfaction vs baseball cancellations

Let's hope I care more about these characters tomorrow 😂 I don't see it happening though because these characters are all ... One dimensional af. You can describe them all with one word

before I lock into episode 10 the highlight of episode 9 was Taeho and Danhee talking amongst themselves after the inheritance conversation

For the writer to immediately follow it up with Yuna's screeching about Jinju is nasty work. Now let's see about ep 10 since this is supposed to be The Big One 👀

iirc all the staff (PD, directors) all previously only worked for KBS1 and it shows. The gag scenes are so intolerable because the last 3 dailies in this time slot actually used them well

I feel like every scene has that stupid circus clown music and I immediately clock out when I hear it. Like can we be serious for ONE scene?

Yuna's origin story is nothing new but the fact that Danhee opposes Minjun studying abroad ? Seems like he's going to stand up to her for the first time ever next episode. On top of that, Yuna's dad vs Professor Baek? In front of Taeho?! Adele stocks?! You know it's Serious Business when stocks are brought up. Let's see some 💥conflict💥

Hyunjun is my favorite of the kids lol

The funniest scene of the episode was when Jeongran's driver tried to run up on the guards at Ihawsae (?) and they just rolled their eyes and walked away

To me the stakes feel low because:
taeho ain't thinking about succession ("I'll decide that later")
Neither Minjun or Hyunjun seem to care...
Jeongran definitely cares about the succession battle but I can't take her seriously as a villain because not only is she obnoxious AF but danhee has the upper hand. (As she should)

For the kids the stakes seem tied to Yuna's inferiority complex and Jinju & Minjun having feelings for each other. I'm sleep!

We just finished AGL and that was a masterclass in how to raise the stakes. Especially for a succession battle

Quick edit because I just made the connection that the "low stakes" feeling is directly tied to the characterization or lack thereof.

I didn't finish GR but I saw enough of it to see the difference between that and this drama: I felt like Carrie and Cha Yeryun's characters had an even amount of screentime. But this drama seems unbalanced.

I can tolerate yoonjung and her brother (the scene where yoonjung was talking to the babies to get them to stop crying was actually pretty funny) but Jeongran and her driver... I don't want to sound like a broken record lol

Now that I've caught up to episode 6 I agree with the characterization sucking. I can't really get invested in any of the characters outside of danhee. Everyone else feels like a makjang archetype rn but I'll give it to episode 30.

The stakes also don't feel high enough....
