So maybe 75- 80% of the characters appearing in the drama don't exist in the novel.

Title Babel Spoiler
Just finished the novel which the drama is based on...
The novel is divided into a side A and a side B (like of a cassette tape). Side A begins with Cui Shan already trapped in the tower of Babylon (1 of many high rise structures uncompleted in the city/county/region). And goes over what happens in her 120 day captivity before she is able to leave. This about 1/2 the novel. Side A ends on her 120th day of captivity when her lover, Lin Zi Cui also ends up captive there and attempts to strangle her to death but is stopped by her peeper (this person started becoming her peeper in the beginning days of her captivity) who she named X.
Side B focuses on a detective (guess they changed the name for the drama) who is looking in the death of Cheng Li Jun, then the disappearance of Lin Zi Cui, and Cheng Li Jun's college friend...the deaths of several other girls (mistresses of Cheng Li Jun's friends' husbands). Then thru the things X leaves behind for Cui Shan, she learns why she was kidnapped and held hostage in the abandoned high-rise. X is not her kidnapper, but Mute Guy is (who also kidnapped the mistresses as requested by Cheng Li Jun and her college friend groupie (they formed a club where the eventual motive was to get revenge on their husband's mistresses: kidnap, held in captivity in the abandoned high-rises where they are unable to leave, depriving them of food and water for days--thats how the 1st victim died. Cui Shan was the only 1 to survive compared to the rest (Lin Zi Cui lasted 3-4 days, 1 of Cheng Li Jun friend 10 days). Mute guy died during Cui Shan's captivity when Cheng Li Jun's friend poisoned him). How X became Cui Shan's peeper and he could have rescued her much sooner but didn't for his own reasons. Why Cui Shan killed Cheng Li Jun (responsible for thr death of her Mom who worked as her maid). That Cheng Li Jun knew of Cui Shan's Mom's secret (she held her husband captive up in that Babylon high-rise for many many years after he supposedly disappeared in their house fire) that inspired her idea to hold her and her friends' mistresses captive in similar way on different high-rise locations with the help of Mute Guy instigated by her friend.

She couldnt escape and no one could help her. Counting the days of captivity, she tried to survive. On the fifteenth day, she was cold and hungry while a storm took away her fetus. When she was in desperation, she found a mysterious man X who refused to show himself was peeping on her..."

Title The Murder in Kairoutei Spoiler
Wow, they brought that into play pretty early.
referring to Cheng Cheng's real father...then wouldn't that negate him as being the son of Gao Guang Yi?

Then in episode 6, they had Gao Guang Yi's credit card transactions (since he allowed Yuan Xing to put all the purchases Cheng Cheng made under his name. That's why it's more likely it would be an illegitimate son.

They came to that conclusion because Li Dong Mei found out that another heir was added to Gao Guang Yi's will. However, when younger sister's husband mentioned that the will left blank the final heir, so he said it could be a lover or an illegitimate child. Gao Guang Yi has 53% stake in the company.

Forgot to mention, just like the novel there's an age gap between MC and her lover, she being the older one.

He and his accomplice needed to make it look like he was at his wits end after running over an old man (his real father who knows who he is) that he kills his gf before committing suicide. Plus he was never in love with her--he found her ugly. He could have killed her with poison like with his friend, but didn't because he always had the urge/dream of strangling/choking her neck. That's how much he disliked her.

I think they changed Gao Guang Yi's role for the drama. Though he is the head of the company, he is an outsider (being married to the oldest sister of the family). Whereas the novel, he has 3 other siblings (2nd brother from the same mother, and the other 2 from a different mother). Gao Shi Yao's husband pretty nonexistent in the novel except in name only. If there are no nieces, I don't know how the murder that happens after the fire takes place months later will take place. It's crucial to the FL exacting her revenge.

The novel has one more murder, but dunno if that will happen though it was crucial in finding out her originally set fire, as the victim was 1 of the president's nieces. The drama doesn't seem to suggest any of the family members having daughters. The nephew was in love with the niece who got killed. The president and only 1 sibling, the other 2 were siblings from a differnt mother. Looks like drama changed the family dynamics a bit because the president is the husband of oldest daughter of the family, whereas in novel its the dead niece whose mom is the "outsider" having married the president's brother (of the same mom). Also in novel, dead niece was in love her uncle (not of the same mom as president). The uncle is the only other single man besides the nephew.

FL's revenge was two-fold. 1st go after the person who set fire to her room (inn's hostess). Most of the mystery is figuring out who this person is. Then go after the person who strangled her, her lover, which she did know especially after seeing him in her disguised self at the president's funeral where her lover came as himself (and not in the name of her lover). By then he had already met the president before the president's death and thr man accepted him as his son and had his lawyer take him on for a position.
