Haven't finished watching Ep.32 yet, but it dawned on me just how scary Xuanyuan Jing Cheng (Xuanyuan Qing Feng's father) can be. When he left a note for his wife w/ no words, it's as if he knew she wouldn't be on this earth much longer (or persuades/indicates to her on what her next action should be).

The last one is metal. We had water, fire, wood, earth.

Thank you! Considering how trailer for Ep 32 has XLF talking to the the 1 leader who came back from the capital on orders from Prime Minister and only 8 episodes left to season 1, I was hoping it would be a good indicator that the production had filmed S2 already?

To those who've gone through the novel: will Deng Tai He be appearing anytime soon? I saw previews for episode 32 and location-wise it's Long Hu Mountain.

She made another attempt right before he was to finally meet his oldest sister. By then the armor was discarded (being it was damaged). The incident was good timing for the Lu/Liu scandal.

He did have the hidden moves (the 9 moves from Old Huang) that he'd been practicing which the Sword God mentioned was used/revealed at the most crucial moment, saving himself from Ha Ha girl. Not to mention that some of the people within his entourage decided to stay at their own will (seen in episode 20)--they all knew there would be an upcoming battle the next day. That night he was still attempting to understand the move Sword God had fought against the water element armor soldier. And from episode 22, we can see he is unable to sustain his energy after performing the one move he learned from Sword God.

Plus, the assassination attempt had to be real in order to fool the royal court.

On the opposite hand, we have Zhao Kai who barely lifted a finger then "oh, pooh, how am I going to kill Xu Feng Nian now that even Chu Lu Shan is here" And hey Xu Feng Nian actually fought against HaHa girl, whereas Zhao Kai...

Might I also mention that was a dastardly move coming from No. 11 Swordsman who struck out at Qing Niao. Both he and Qing Niao had been thrown when Sword God performed his move. She was still in the air, no weapon in hand and he used a sword to strike her.

What I saw was a comparison between Xu Feng Nian and Zhao Kai. See my spoiler post below. Throughout the entire battle, Zhao Kai kept himself hidden observing. The only thing I found annoying was Ning E Mei not heeding Xu Feng Nian. And when he had his soldiers fire the arrows--after the 1st attempt of them, Ning E Mei, as their commander should have stopped them and switched to a different tactic. He should have realized the guy had powers beyond his own abilities. But then No. 11 Swordsman was out to get Xu Feng Nian and then anyone associated with the Beiliang army.

Xu Feng Nian is the son of Xu Xiao, Lord of Bei Liang; Zhao Kai, likely illegitmate son of Zhao Chun, emperor whose seat is at the capital.
If you are complaining that Xu Feng Nian didn't do anything to help his comrades in this episode, well, you can pretty much say the same for Zhao Kai, who observed the entire fight. Then had the audacity to comment on Zhao Heng (likely his uncle) taking advantage by arriving late. Being a student of not only Eunuch Han Diao Si but also of Shangyin Academy, his skills at this moment probably can do serious damage as opposed to Xu Feng Nian who hasn't fully developed his skills (Li Chungang already said that what Wang Chong Lou, master of Wudang sect, transferred to him doesn't really belong to him as it was given, not learned/developed), yet he chose to be an observer of the battle, watching his 5 elements armor do the work (and they are inhuman). In dramas, we've seen where if the head person of a commanding army is taken down, all is pretty much lost...not to mention, in this battle, the target was Xu Feng Nian. Had he attempted to fight along with his comrades, their focus would be divided between protecting him and the enemy.

Ep 21: Justaposition of Xu Feng Nian and Zhao Kai...

You guys do realize if he steps in, those who are trying to protect will have their energy and mind divided right? So their focus will not just only be on fighting vs the enemy but protect him at the same time. When the army of guards noticed that some of their people were missing, he already told them it was a diversion tactic, but because Ning E Mei says they can't just leave their people behind, he gives orders for 3 people to go. Ning E Mei on his own sends more men to follow. Also, those under Ning E Mei and even Ning E MEi won't even likely listen to him. And looked what happened--those "missing" ended up being as bait, "poisoned" so that others who touch them end up dying.

definitely much more serious. what you saw in the trailer focusing on the ML is cut and paste of scenes/dialogue that showcases what he/his father wants others to believe him to be.

I haven't read the novel either, but the genre is xuanhuan not wuxia. So if you look up what xuanhuan means, you would know not to expect the classical "wuxia" for this drama

As long as you understand that this is based off a xuanhuan novel, so the "wuxia" isn't your classical kind

So how many of us realize this drama is based off of a xuanhuan (and not wuxia) novel, so aren't expecting true wuxia?

He is special ops, sent on secret mission where he had to assume a different identity in order to infiltrate that criminal organization. The mission was never completley closed, as the technology had not been found at the time. The bad guys know he is still alive (thereby he couldn't see FL for close to 5 yrs...and when he did, it was because her Boss accidentally triggered the signal from the coin). If you pay attention to his interaction with who he calls "Sister" and flashbacks, you will learn that who he calls "Older Brother" died on a mission which he couldn't tell his wife (part of the protocol) about before she was able to give birth. "Sister" becomes unstable/mentally ill upon hearing news of her husband's death.

So what they did was somewhat combined Jiang Hao's character and ML's leader into one because ML planned the fake death of his leader in order to fool the moles (their target was the leader) and Big Boss so that ML and go capture Big Boss.

1. Jiang Hao was supposed to be a mole for the Big Boss in the novel; there, he portrays himself as a rich businessman and got Qiao Yu Fei to date him.
2. He along with Chen Guo Zi (also another mole) were used as diversions by the Big Boss to kill the leader of the special operations unit (doesn't seem like there was such a character in the drama).
3. Big Boss is supposed to be the son of the leader Lee was under while being undercover and not the kid both Lee and FL knew at the camp. Novel: ML was jealous of the kid but at the same time wary, fearing him to be another mole sent by the Big Boss.
4. Female assassin is supposed to be in love with Big Boss and not ML. Her underling is in love with her and he betrayed Big Boss in order to get her away from the killing lifestyle but in the end she and Big Boss dies when Big Boss tries to kill ML and FL (all were in the same room together) in the explosion he set up. ML ends up in coma/injured and it takes time for him to recover.
