I read a big spoiler about The Last Empress recently :( so I'm pushing it back for now. It is not really a long…
The Last Empress really went crazy and fell apart in the last like 6 episodes. But prior to that, it was DEFINITELY the most enjoyable makjang, cliched drama. XD
I really want to watch my father is strange, but just too many eps nah too lazy
I thought the same thing when I first came across it, but the sibling are so likable and the tensions are so high that the drama goes by very quickly! :D
Thank you. Seriously. I felt like with this being such a high rated movie that it would be a very unpopular opinion…
I agree. He made a hurtful mistake, but it was hurtful, not anything truly irreversible like an affair. And she was grieving the loss of her father. And he really wasn't himself with feeling all bitter and incompetent from his career not working out. With all those things to consider, sure maybe taking a break would help them cool off and come to be happy individuals before becoming romantically involved. And then when they finally meet again they would be able to look back at their break up and realize it wasn't because they hated each other but because they were going through a really rough time in their lives and it all came out wrong. The resolution should have been graceful, like this. But we didn't get that. And you're right - it definitely felt like all the happiness and love they showed us she felt while with him was circumstantial and insincere and that he was the only one who loved with his whole self in their relationship. And honestly? I don't feel like he needed another "chance." I felt like that was her moment to fight for him. She broke up with him over him saying some stupid stuff while essentially depressed and it was her turn to make amends, giving him some grace for what he was going through. Especially with him being the one to chase her the whole time. I was so sure she would run back down the aisle after him out the door in slow motion. That, while not being nearly detailed enough and rather vague, would have been enough for me to be okay. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought he'd go in there to crash the wedding. XD The least they could do was provide us with some kind of epilogue scene to see HIS happier ending. Ya know?
I agree that she was selfish and didn't love him as much,, it made me mad too but I also think it wasn't her fault…
I agree with you that it's not her fault if she didn't care for him as much as he cared for her, but it still hurts as the viewer when you see how hard he worked to show her his love. Just for her to essentially say it wasn't enough for her to love him back just as much. And YES! With this ending being so disappointing to me, I was so relieved that the writers at least gave him a respectable, graceful, and admirable final scene (it was the least they could do, right? ;P).
Thank you. Seriously. I felt like with this being such a high rated movie that it would be a very unpopular opinion…
I could see why she felt the need to break up with her parent's marriage being a horrible example to fear. But I was expecting them to reunite after figuring out their careers, happier now with themselves to be able to appreciate their relationship anew. With their long history, I find it really hard to believe that she loves the new man from Belgium as much as she came to love him. And if she really did move on that quickly, it makes me even more mad because then she didn't love him that much and she was just a floozy, unworthy of our MMC (I'm hoping this is not the case...).
Thank you. Seriously. I felt like with this being such a high rated movie that it would be a very unpopular opinion but I just feel so exasperated right now that I had to say something.
I completely agree on Hwi's character development. I never not liked him but at times I wasn't even completely…
I didn't dislike Hwi either, but as you said, Seon-Ho was the easier character to connect with. His motives were clearly explained and therefore his actions were very understandable, even if they were shitty, which made Hwi feel even *more* lacking because it didn't feel like his character had the same crafting.
The fatal wounds *did* feel a bit silly sometimes! It was like, "annnnnd they're going to keep fighting REALLY well even though they were definitely just stabbed through and through. AND they're gonna recover and live many more years." Plot convenience. Not enough to ruin the drama, but *eye rolls*
Soula,Thank you for your review. I think it is a very thoughtful and well planned review. I think you stated what…
Thank you for your comment!
You and I both seemed to have experienced Crash Landing On You similarly - we both enjoyed and struggled with similar things!
I agree! The orchestra version of the piano piece is better, though, I do not go out of the way to listen to it compared to my mentioned favorite pieces.
I also wasn't a fan of Dan nor Seung Jun at first, but once their characters were better flushed out, I was rooting for them all all the way too! And yes!!!! Why didn't the medic try to do CPR?! I chalked that up to N Korean medicine and emergency procedures not having the same standards. And I too have the same hopes for Seung Jun and Dan - her smile and wearing the ring still gives me sincere hope. I truly hope they come out with another season or an epilogue special of at least an episode or 2 to show us Seung Jun alive and well. Did you read the article about how Seung Jun's actor didn't even know about his character dying until filming the episode?
Oooh yes. I agree - I also found myself wanting Sang Mi and Dong Cheol to have some form of contact. For me, it wasn't for the desire of romance, it was literally due to the need for those who are feeling vulnerable to get some strength. I literally remember internally saying, "Sang Mi, hug him! You're safe. Finally safe!" or "Dong Cheol, she's terrified. She's shaking. Hold her hands. Please."
I really appreciate that you said you found the pacing a bit too slow. I also agree - it took until episode 9 or 10 for the pacing to pick up and then the ending ended up feeling rushed!
