On When We Were Young Nov 24, 2019
im going through the comments and i know its been months but i just... can’t believe people rated this low just because it didn’t focus on the romance :(( i guess they felt the potential of romance and got frustrated because the romance never happened.

so lemme just say this, if you’re looking for a drama just for romance sake, don’t expect that here. there are a few really good moments tho where i had to scream cause they were cute! but other than the few moments, this drama focuses more on the things we experience when we were young, as the title says. so of course there’d be first love, but youth isn’t all about our raging hormones, right?

watch it for the good plot, great acting and chemistry and life stories we can all relate to. you won’t regret it!

i honestly wouldn’t mind if there wasn’t a season 2 because season 1 was already perfect for me. it perfectly depicted what youth is, including the many goodbyes we encounter.

what i would want tho is a movie! a movie where all the characters reunite, with flashbacks of what they did during the time they were apart. this is something i’d like to see more than season 2. i’m just afraid that the entire series would lose the nostalgic feeling with season 2, cause in general, most season 2s aren’t done well. especially if they didn’t plan it. if they did tho, then i hope they could capture the magic that was in season 1.

i hope they do release this drama this year! would be interesting to see minghao play a supporting role. i’ve never seen him in a drama with actors more experienced, more senior, than him so i wonder how he’ll do~

On The Lost Tomb 2 Nov 23, 2019
i honestly hated the pacing of this drama hahaha they took so long showing either the scenery, the characters just walking in the tomb, through the snow... basically, things that didn't really add to the plot. thank god for the fast forward function!

i initially picked this series up cause (1) i wanted to watch a drama not focused on romance and (2) because neo's visuals were on another level. the moment i saw that face on the poster, i was interested. and then when i found out that it was more bromance than romance... i was sold! i didn't even know who neo was, and i didn't even really care about him. i even made fun of him in the first episode cause haha he was supposed to rescue his uncle but he was wearing fashionable, white clothes?? it didn't fit! but by the time they were inside the undersea tomb, i was trying soooo hard not to take interest in neo but daaang, boy's got some real good acting skills so it was over for me. he made me believe and care for wu xie.

having no background on any of the the lost tomb story, it was a bit confusing for me at first. but as the story progresses, you start to make your own assumptions based on what the characters said and how they interacted with each other. so, even without prior knowledge, you'd be good!

what i loved most about this drama wasn't really the plot. instead, i kept on watching it for the relationships between the characters. the chemistry of the three main leads was really, reaaaally good. which is why it didn't really matter to me if there were lots of plot holes, if the drama did ridiculous things, i loved it because of them. fans of the novel loved the iron triangle because of their brotherhood. when i learned of this, i wasn't surprised, cause that was very apparent too in the drama. it wasn't that strong but you ~know~ it's there.

after researching about the novel, i came across comments that they were annoyed at wu xie at first because he was too trusting, too naive, and that he always needed help from panzi and xiao ge. all he had was knowledge, but no real experience about tomb raiding. in the drama though, they portrayed wu xie a bit differently. he's actually pretty capable in the drama! he can even fight, though not as good as xiao ge. and his naivety... in the drama, panzi called him mr. naive all the time but to me, i just thought that his "naive" nature was just a consequence of his kindness, and that panzi kept on calling him that not just to tease him, but also out of concern, to remind him not to trust blindly. i also thought that it was this nature of his that made xiao ge loyal to him. but that could just be me hahaha

again on wu xie's naivety... there were times where i questioned his trust on characters who were obviously up to no good but, in the end, none of them truly betrayed him. to me, it felt like he trusted them not because he was ignorant or stupid or easily swayed, he trusted them because he had faith in them. i think that's very different from blind trust.

besides! i don't know if this was in the script or if minghao decided this on his own, but every time a character said something questionable, he'd put on this ~thinking~ look, like he's trying to decide if the character should be trusted or not! that made me feel that wu xie was actually really smart. his heart was just really big. big enough to be kind to even the most suspicious person. having this characteristic, his passion for knowledge, and his righteousness... it's really no small wonder why he inspired loyalty from those he's encountered. minghao did a really good job of portraying that so i'm sad that we won't get him to play the next wu xie :(

this is definitely one of those dramas i'll watch over and over again (though with lots of fast forwarding involved hahaha)!

Title Over Again
the story of this movie could’ve been told in 30 minutes. i wish it could’ve focused more on the relationship of the three friends instead of focusing more on how they could bring their friend back cause that was what it lacked—heart. the movie told you they were friends but that was it. it didn’t really show how deep the friendship was. all of that was shown in super quick flashbacks but that wasn’t enough to make you feel the chemistry of the friends and so their desperation to bring the other friend back, and the lesson they learned at the end, wasn’t touching. i was more focused on how they could go back in time honestly haha i didn’t really care about the characters :((

individually, acting was good. they were all pros and it didn’t feel awkward. but when it came to interacting with each other... you couldn’t really feel they were good friends haha i blame that on the script tho. they could’ve included it in but they decided to skip it, assumed that the audience knew they were good friends.

i watched it for minghao. and minghao did not disappoint me! but the plot really could’ve been better
