good lord guys I'm so late this time with my novel to ep3 comparisons but if y'all do read lemme know if y'all…
pharan's brother chayod loved khemjira's past self khemmika but khemmika loved pharan's past self phawat so when phawat went to battlefield to treat people chayod tricked khemmika so she'd agree to marry him instead but she rejected, also the reason pharan remembers his past is because he's literally a shaman gifted with magical powers
who's ready for some comparison commentary between novel and drama ep3? let's gaurr 😁- unlike in the drama…
good lord guys I'm so late this time with my novel to ep3 comparisons but if y'all do read lemme know if y'all want me to explain anything further contains heavy spoiler tho so be careful 😩
who's ready for some comparison commentary between novel and drama ep3? let's gaurr 😁
- unlike in the drama chanjet's past life arc was revealed a lot later in the novel both of them didn't remember anything about it till then, they're indeed the reincarnation of chayada and jintana, yes they were in love with eachother but in the novel despite being best friends even khemmika wasn't aware of it until later but well as you can already guess given the time period they did not have a happy ending either
- oh boy when i was reading the part of what chayod did while phawat was away at the battlefield all because he claimed to love khemmika which led them to their tragic end needless to say i was fuming but it will all make sense why all of that happened later I'm assuming in ep4 itself so i won't spoil too much yet
- in the drama khem already meets thong ake right after the scene where peem was trying to trap chayod in the pot which he fails but in the novel he meets them in a complete different situation i wish they kept it that way because it could have led to a potential romantic scene but anyways it was cute regardless
- just so you guys knowwww khemjira in the novel is extremely timid, cowardly almost backboneless hence in first half him and peem barely had any interactions but here in the drama he tells pharan off when he's upset even replies to him sassily and I'm sososo happy they modified his character and made him more upfront, stronger while still keeping his innocence, kindness and softness intact he's not scared of confronting pharan anymore unlike in the novel, i don't think i could have tolerated if drama khem was like novel khem lol
- the scene where khem's mother's spirit visits pharan to thank him for protecting her son they didn't add it in the drama but in the novel pharan puts her in a blessed pot to protect her otherwise she would have been destroyed the night pharan performed the ritual in ep2 beginning to protect the village from vengeful spirits, pharan explains that her spirit wasn't protected the reason her spirit wasn't still taken away to be a servant and she could still protect khem was because of her accumulated merit while she was alive combined with the amulet's power that khem wore since childhood and someone who has been sending her merit and kindness (most likely by khem's father who's also a monk)
- the ceremony that pharan performs in ep3 is a long practiced merit making ceremony in northeastern thailand in which the villagers decorate earth with rice and offer various food to their ancestors and the wandering spirits, in the novel they explained that it is originally held in the 9th month every year but pharan suggested to hold it earlier after the incident of khem bringing an army full of vengeful spirit which attacked the village happened they didn't explain it in the drama unfortunately
- yes in the novel too jet took away por kru's bicycle and forgot to pick him up later, poor dude had to walk all the way to the village ceremony center he even got late lol (it's in the novel too but I've no idea why the dogs follow him don't ask me but ykw same 😪)
- and yes pharan does wear the sunglasses not only to protect his eyes from the sun but to avoid making eye contact with many of his fangirls in the village (jet absolutely was not exaggerating lol), jet said apparently someone even once tried climbing into his house lmfao
- finally in ep3 our sweet grandma si is introduced she took care of pharan after his mother passed away and was a close friend to his grandfather, she's the most sweetest literally our og peemkhem ship sailor along with jet you guys will absolutely love her 🥹
- compared to the novel pharan's tattoo revealing in the rain scene is even more sexc in the drama GOD BLESSED US ALL 😩
- the waterfall scene (my sassy jet got thirst trapped by his nerdy boy lmaoo) and those troublemaker students escaping to the forest at night despite being warned not to is exactly the same as the novel poor praemai got dragged into that mess because of her boyfriend and his shitty friends she didn't even want to join them
- the ghost they show in the forest that took away praemai's soul is called mae ying hence why grandma si was called to help since she's a soul healer, the rest of the scenes that followed including the rescue scenes are very detailed exactly like the novel
- the cave scene where pharan meets the black serpent to ask for help is called phuchong the entire scene is same from the novel, there's a separate arc connected to this particular character which will be explained later in the story you may actually notice a lot of naga references throughout the drama so keep an eye open
that's about it for now see y'all in next episode <3
omg hiii I'm so glad that you actually do read my comments i actually had some emergency so i couldn't even watch ep3 yet but no worries I've finally gotten some time I'll definitely watch and post by today will definitely let you know when i do 🥰
ykw guys kinda glad i read the novel beforehand aside from me being desparate for spoilers it feels amazing to see your favourite piece of fiction coming to life just how you imagined it while reading maybe even better than that, I really hope more drama/movie productions will take some notes and learn how to do novel adaptation correctly DMD themselves should apply it on their other dramas (gmm I'm looking at you too), it pisses me off when i read a really good novel/webtoon then it gets adapted and they absolutely f*ck it up from plot to casting like you should know those famous novel/webtoons already got an existing readers fanbase why'd you piss them off by messing it all up instead of appeasing to them, you automatically get pre existing viewers if you do the adaptation right and it doesn't have to be downright copy pasted either an adaptation can still be done right after modifying it for duration limitations while keeping the key points from the novel plot intact, but I'm glad khemjira team so far followed the novel although they did add new sub plots they made tons of positive adjustments from novel readers' recs which polished the drama storyline even more this is exactly how you should do an adaptation i really hope they won't disappoint by the time last ep airs
