Actually, if the illness stems from childbirth and it's been coming on for a long time, it might be some kind of blood poisoning or pelvic infection that started then and is just now reaching full sepsis (including the large open sores) because it's never been treated and cleared.

And if that's the case, she really doesn't have long at all before her body gets overwhelmed and fails rather quickly. As the preview suggests, she probably won't last as long as LX's confinement will.

I wonder if we have any medical minds around who can make better guesses than we can? Step up doctors we need a diagnosis from you.

The scab on her arm might be the treatment. bleeding? burning? the thing that caught my eye was her repeatedly pressing on her abdomen. Some kind of cancer maybe. Uterine. Ovarian. something she would associate with not recuperating from childbirth ??? I guess we'll find out too soon

She took a bad situation (an assault on her position - the introduction of a concubine to produce a boy heir) and then manipulated the hell out of it in order to preserve her good name and cement some power/ownership/inheritance for her daughters. The concubine belonged to a different sect in the family so there was a good chance that they would lose their safety and security if a boy is born and/or the Marquis dies. So, in response to this, she basically, does a major performance leading into a masterful negotiation and a deal that reverses all of their fortunes. Brava. !!!

I don't know if you watch kdamas too but this site shows the cast members as they looked in character, in that particular drama and it even groups them for you, by family, friend circles or worikplaces etc.
Unfortunately it doesn't include c-dramas because it's so much easier to spot the actors you want to know more about.

TY. I totally forgot about that. So maybe the box really is, at least in part, a collection of mementos that trace the development of his devotion and his decision to marry no matter what. We know that this apparently hard-nosed military dude turned out to be the only romantic in the room so perhaps it's something he would do.

This was good to read. I kind of feel sorry for him and hope that he sincerely apologizes to his , his daughters and the Lin family too. He seems to be a basically good man who would want to walk back what he's done. He knows he's messed up his marriage and younger family and he must feel even lonelier now. Lonelier in his family, his personal life but maybe also in his political life as well. It's unfortunate.

It's funny, one of my first thoughts was, why didn't they include him in the theater that they put on mainly for his mother and extended family. They could have brought him onside. Except that they somehow couldn't/didn't trust him enough to do that. I mean, I know the play was better without relying on his acting skills but would he have said no?

I wonder. And somehow, I think they did him wrong by jumping into position against him so quickly without giving him a way out.

Anyway, I know he can't get things back to where they were but I hope he tries and I hope they give him a chance. Bitterness before sweetness. For his sake but also for everyone's sake. His wife and kids and the Lin's too. Because, if it goes the other way and he hardens against them all, the Lin family will lose out on a support that they have needed in the past and may well need in the future.

Do you think he would have gone along with the plan if he'd had a chance to do so? I mean we'll never know but everything you said about him is true and ... well ... that look of shock was satisfying but also unfortunate.

see the comment I wrote just a few minutes ago. There are lots of obvious reasons why something like this might play out, in real life, just as it is written here.

There is no doubt that people are easily fooled and there are countless examples where conmen have completely hoodwinked their marks because they know how to use human nature to help weave a story that looks real.

I mean the president of the united states convinced half a nation that he was a brilliant business man and a good enough person to vote for despite there being an avalanche of information that should have made people see him for what he is. It was so obvious but ... people were fooled ... and in many other historical examples too.

Just the fact that LX loves her parents so much ... that would make it hard to doubt her identify.

Maybe we'll get some flashbacks to moments when he had some passing doubts or subconscious misgivings that have grown in number. After all, he has collected so many things and some of them have not been from happy times. A fan she painted in a brothel where she very nearly played out the rest of her existence. I mean it's beautiful but still ...

And, you know how it goes, even if we don't see any prior references, sometimes you just kind of notice things over time but they don't really sink in and you don't connect them ... until, suddenly you do. It's perfectly feasible. Even likely. And he doesn't want to know does he? Why would he? So that would keep his misgivings submerged as well.

Plus, we like to believe that a genius is just born that way when all the real evidence in life points to that not being the case. There are facilitating factors behind even the most apparently natural genius and a real education from another genius is much more likely. Still we like to think that we've spied something special when nobody else has and our ML obviously liked to believe just that. He had discovered a natural genius among his lowborn household staff.
