I agree that it is somewhat frustrating to see how ZXS is not more "smart" dealing with all the Uncle Zha machinations. They did present him as a super valuable and capable business spy. However, I did think of all the people I have met or known who are incredibly smart and successful in their professional lives but make the most terrible decisions in their relationships and when in love. It seems that capability in the professional front often does not translate into savviness in other spheres of life. Plus with ZXS's background, he doesn't seem like he would have the experience or confidence needed to handle emotional matters well. So I thought that as frustrating as it is, maybe it is not such a badly written character which is incongruous to the plotline. Plus Leo Luo plays it really well or it could get really annoying despite any justifications.

Same here. I kind of like it that for once the ML is seriously flawed. And you are right, Leo Luo keeps us watching the drama and rooting for ZXS.

I would certainly give it a try and also give it a few episodes to really pick up. There's quite a lot of scientific jargon and patent related matters but that is to be expected because the entire plot sort of depends on it. The second leads are kind of cute but take up way too much screen time. I sometimes skipped through their parts but then some of my friends seem to really enjoy their story. I actually like it the best amongst all the currently airing C-dramas.

I agree with you. My heart too is with Leo Luo. I think he potrays the character of Zhou Xiao Shan really well. I agree he is extremely slim and shorter than the Qin Bin and YWZ and I am not trying to body shame but that might be partly why some people might think he doesn't seem "badass" enough. However, he plays the complex character that is ZXS really well with all his complexities and vulnerabilities. I do love the strong, smart, all powerful MLs but I am also really enjoying this portrayal of a complicated man who really wants to just be ordinary and has been hurt in the past. This role reversal of sorts of the FL and ML is one of the things that keeps me watching this show. I agree that QJN is a great character and easy to love but it is ZXS that is difficult to portray and I think if some actor with lesser acting chops played that role, I might end up really not liking the ML at all. Leo Luo just shows the sadness, fear and love he feels so well that one feels like rooting for him despite some of his more questionable decisions. One wants him to do better because one feels he is capable of it and maybe even deserves it.

I agree. Much as I liked ZXS in the beginning, I don't like him keeping secrets from QJN. The only reason I keep watching and rooting for him is because it is portrayed so well by LYX with depth and vulnerability.

I love this drama too and am currently on episode 31. I can say that there's the SMLand SFL who both seem annoying at first but bear with it. They turn out to be way better and more interesting than the cliched terrible, clingy second leads. The SFL can seem annoying but she has more justification for how she acts than those who are just mean and want the guy in a psycho way. The SML too is not so annoying as the episodes progress. They both grow as characters.
I love both the leads and like you said, I do not usually like the "heavy" dramas but I love that the ML is more complex than the standard, tropey MLs. Luo Yun Xi is so very good as Xiao Shan. And finally a C-drama FL who is capable, smart, kind, sweet and not annoying. I love Victoria Song in it.
It is not a perfect drama but I am loving it and it is certainly my favorite amongst the currently airing dramas.

Yeah I agree. I love this drama and agree that it is the best drama amongst the currently airing ones. I was actually quite tired of all the teenybopper romances out there with the ingenue heroine and the CEO/prince/general type male lead.

I don't find the ML manipulative at all. If anything, he seemed straightforward in a refreshing way. If he had started liking her after he found out she was in a relationship, that would be weird. But he liked her from the beginning before he knew she was in a relationship. Sometimes love manifests as protecting the one you love and I believe he wants to protect the FL. He seems always upfront with her and that's actually quite nice to watch.

Yes! Good way to put it indeed. Very good but also very depressing. However, the tragedy seems really tragic and almost inevitable but never forced.

I loved the show and it is certainly amongst my fave C- dramas. I really want to watch the epilogue with English subs but can't seem to find it anywhere in a complete format. I saw that YouTube has parts 2, 3 and 4 but I can't find part 1. While I am grateful someone put them up, I don't understand why the first part hasn't been put up if parts 2,3 and 4 were posted. Does anyone know where I can watch the complete epilogue set in modern times with English subs? Thanks.

I think you're right. I like red hair generally and it usually looks good on Asian skin tone, so it's most probably the makeup.

Is it just me or is Lee Dong Wook styled kind of weirdly in this one? I mean he is a handsome man but it seems he just looks more sallow and kind of older in the drama. I think that hair color really washed him out and the hairstyle is also not flattering. I do like his acting and have liked some of his previous works. Drama is quite interesting so far.

I am on episode 21 and love the drama but can't stand her friend. She is quite annoying!

Actually I totally agreed with you. However, haters gonna hate. So best to just keep our cool and enjoy this beautiful drama and its wonderful story and characters. After all both my fave dramas- The Untamed and Love and Redemption- have protagonists who are misunderstood and often given very underserved "bad reviews" by the people around them:D
