A non rigid 7 some eps first impression.

Luckily drama looks good so far ,yeah. Plenty of miles to go though. It would be interesting to see how characters evolved and plots swerved lead up to main plot(synopsis-> if that's the main plot in its entirety)

Her escapade scene->

she bravely but not accidentally, rightly so fell and while in her celestial trajectory wishing at the same time for her first lover to catch her, alas we seems to have quite an able another actor (a cliche second lover future to be), when we need him most to catch the cliche spoil with open arms .Now she went to sleep why ?Not sure, maybe because of her energy burning aptly quick tree climbing without tearing her long sleeved outfit or nerve racking roof top walking or the tiresome long peaceful slo mo falling or for her overly stretched wishful thinking,are they really further exploration worthy (!?!) i digress.Safe bet would be all of it.Kudos to ML for being the right man at right place at right time and catching her right way, mercy.If that was not the barn of cliches burner scene then what not ? else i am just trying to be a hater who missed out the nitty-gritty of the cleverly or dumbly done art of cliches.This a'int a real life circus its a drama.Bravo makers much obliged.

Episode 4,5 onward things started to get interesting for me. Palace scheming bullying blackmailing et al thingy all hell broke loose .From the very beginning i felt Wanglin was a complicated character. Even though poison plot is not necessarily an original but then can an ancient theme drama would be possible without poison, besides poisons korean dramas has their shamanic ritual and vodoo doll. Chinese historical dramas have their incense and poison.

Most important part of most dramas usually their story, here Wang Xuan(Zhang Zi Yi) rebel princess the center character of this drama , Barring understandable fluffiness had so far shown good morale and judgements . Was impressed of her mostly from 'Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragons', a wuxia masterpiece movie.ML Xiao Qi(Zhou Yi Wei) i have known from the another masterpiece drama 'The Longest Day in Changan' .Versatile actor.Did great there. As the drama progresses hopefully thier acting will be par with interesting script

Lip syncs dubs certain times were off putting, then not a issue for me. Impressive indoor light works and for certain outdoor night scenes too. Usage of Haze shots gave the watercolor washed up portrait feel at certain times. nice flip flops of DOF. Cinematography is good. usage of Fog machines excessively for war scenes not cool to reduce the efficacy of cheap VFX, i guess this i have to tolerate for sake of budget cutting dilemma.Overall art direction is good. Much appreciate indoor display of Penjing/Penzai (beautiful restricted Bonsai ). The tree they gave the feeling they had cut down or the tree she climbed looked so cool wonder what its name.

One thing is beyond funny is China Zone youtube chanesl The Rebel Princess rendition, even before i start play a episode i get to see with esteem privilege title of the each episode like

I was on Titanic traveling smoothly through the uncharted territory, started to appreciate intricacies of things better by looking here and there.Then all of a sudden, eight nautical miles past , got hit by the biggest blunder of a thing called iceberg. It wont melt then it wasnt supposed to melt. Bizarrely what me thinking. Oh no no i was no faint hearted, deep in my core something immediately echoed Ahoy this ain't a rom com no reasons to break your heart.Oh dear me i pull my socks up without a blink, and much to my surprise , found there were others who were also on their own titanics .Thank God me not alone . I row and row steadfast before we sink. Was expecting more thrills and chills than the weather was permitting.Often facing faster currents and abruptive big waves.Forgot about the icebergs they became part of the nature, which may sound unnerving but its not.I happened to had adjusted the thresholdOmeter at times. it was like somewhat painfully a kind of delightful experience.Never the less got through it, i wasn't drowned, it didn't sank.Most part technically the journey was relatively quite sound praise Aye . learned a bit of the amazing past , yeah that's the real deal, journey was worth.And i woke up .

Cant argue with your view on showing flaws and goods they could have showed some creativity in this drama here where there are plenty of examples of villainous character to be idolize in the end in many dramas. They possibly tried to hide some controversies but then opening up possible history enthusiasts dissatisfaction

Thats some attention to detail work.

Its cctv production right , but then they did show his ruthlessness to manipulate other states their livelihoods for the so called greater cause,. So it can be a balancing thing.Not enough eps to discet the Ying Zheng Character too much , some focus were given on the other things.Also the negative things are debatable, as its relate to mandate of heaven(preceding dynasty ruler successive dynasty POV). How much you want to give values on negatives depends or are you willing to take the greater picture etc .

Lots of inconsistencies. Thought they lose track of many things.Only few eps to go they will round up for the final scene for ascension of the first emperor.

Didnt like last few eps , the way a mighty clever general like li mu fell and to whom. And could you believe its Guo Kai again.In the end no Cauldron cooking scene this time ?They dont even have the audacity to give some audible mantis screams from Guo Kai for what he is worth.(Palms in the air.) Thats a pre kindergarten GameOfThrones act there. meh .
Field agent Dun Ruo has done a lot of damages in Zhao.

In the drama Lao Ai got the horses treatment , Guo Kai got (almost) Cows. Thought Dowager was valued higher than any treason act. A bit prolonged punishment intended perhaps.

Whats the difference between five horse drawn pull vs five cow drawn pull , i guess difference lies in their gallop and running.still which is more painful. Any notes in the Records of the Grand Historian(Shiji) about it , Guo kai almost got the cow pull,is it a derogatory thing or what , feel a bit funny . Perhaps severity of offense.

Flaky to be honest, yeah he didn't last long, but Guo Kai to save the day on eps 63 love the banter from him, after Lord Chunping failure. Some of the characters they are bringing in has not enough backstory build up i mean their charisma, intelligence, power etc.Sometimes they were brought up in rush and story ensue. And the character they are investing deserves a better closure.Lv Buwei scene was not bad. A decent flashback.

Not subbed yet, such a good drama.Hopefully by the new year it will get subbed , will watch it like couch potato.

After the middle part of this drama Ying Zheng character has made leaps and bounds and Zhao Yan acting is most noticeable of all characters. He is portraying variations very good.

A bit New Zealand Maori haka dance vibe was there, Zhao Yan and Ying Zheng convo was something.

eps 57 Zhao Yan on most part was dictating things on this tour but blew it at the end. There were obvious reasons for Ying Zheng to tremble for his childhood friend head but none whatsoever for a cruel person like Zhao Yan. A look see don't hurt but what ever. Was that one of the assassins head ? Lots of prey sacrificed they should be honorably mentioned in the credit scene. Except the deer.

Not convincing scene at best. I mean Guo Ki of all people. I thought king looking young these days but the sence with his mother he looked 100 years old again. the guy struggles with expressions cant blame him he just cant control it.

Ying Zheng looks so much calmer this days, his acting somewhat picking up.
