I guess we can call it a viewer friendly 4th installment , still not at all convincing.The reason i am saying once they made the decision to cast him they cant take it back as they started shooting, but then afterthought can be a catching at straws . Its difficult to not believe that they don't believe they have made a serious mistake, they are trying it as it is he is not the same good ol king he is different happy now.

whats the budget for this drama ?I am guessing their budget nothing like the big budgeted drama Game of thrones -> 10mills per eps 100 mills for season. They are doing their best with whats available .story nothing like GOT though but there are certain interests goals similar to it.GOT is completely a fiction and so far this drama has shown good historcity of the period. Nice to see acrobatic spinning of the chariot as close to the real as it gets.They are definitely capable of showcasing certain skills.like the display of chariots on various scenes portraying the era quite good. Snowy mountain at the backdrop looks so picturesque, scenary choice is exquisite.

Why did they brought the third installment of Ying Zeng character so early, when the second one was doing ok, in fact his acting was better than the third. How could the director/producer make this mistake,they have done so many things right so far now this meh, now you have to watch this drama who knows for how many episodes a grown up dude pretending to be a 15 year older.Hopefully the timeline will be fast forwarded but then drawback would be you're missing out many other things.
Even though Confucius just died before the beginning of Warring States Period ( and this drama is in particularly in the timeline of 250/256BC to 221BC of this period) his and Mencius beliefs in relation to rulers and their virtue , Legalist point of view(Legalism) brought up exactly as the Contention of a Hundred Schools of Thought.
Basically we are dealing with 3 and half some decade here, that is not to overly simplify but a starting point where Quin Shi Huang\Yin Zheng is at the center. And of course they will be fictionalized at certain extent unless its a docudrama.
I am yet to see a proper map of the Seven warring states of Warring States Period (i mean there are quite a few in the drama but they are the ancients one i am talking about the easy ones for the viewers). Wikipedia has the perfect simplified one, the makers of this drama could have used that kind of map as a overlay and give some narrative text at the beginning, things like that can help viewers experience.This map is important as where those states were placed in relation to each other and need to be shown a few times or else chances are we will go bananas.

Bad make up work for the queen Zhao Ji at the parade her neck clearly showing sweat mark or something, i guess the heat is to blame but the artist responsible should know for some shot take hours and some works need to be checked more often,director also didn't do any good in that aspect.
Throughtout this drama mood building background music is superb.They really have mastered the audio here,you cant appreciate enough these stuffs.
On episode 4 Scenes from where the last king of Zhou dynasty King Nan heard the betrayal of his vassal states and pointing his finger at the Mandate of Heaven(Nine tripod Cauldrons). The anguish ,the cursing, stellar performance from the vettaran actor.lol ima starting to think because of the curse Nine Cauldrons got lost at the river, wish king Nan (last king of the longest dynasty of chinese history) had a bit more screen time.
On episode 6 Lord Anguo the king of Qin gave his sword to future to be emperor the reaction (reluctant submission to be precise) from queen Huayang
and episode 7 stifled laughter from lu Buwei when King of Qin demise came to light. All these three actors performed really really good.
For some shots light could have been diffused to take away the vividness of some powdery looks , may be its the make up artist issue, for most part cinematography is very good.
Drama started with all glitz and blitz i mean arrows shot, fire in the trenches, stone like something getting catapulted, acrobatic real horses getting tripped all over the places ,fine fine, all good, then as usual it was just a teaser no extension, but as far as scheming and stratagems concerns the drama didnt fail so far.May be its too early to be picky, even if the drama dont show wars extensively which may be due to cutting the production cost.Earlier days dramas were much bolder in this context. On most part drama showing some good technical abilities and closeness to histriocity.Casting choices for one or two actors on first look seems to be a let down but as drama progresses their acting is not.
Already hinting birth controversy, no stone unturned will be the theme hmmmgggh. How far will they go yikes, probably not in part 1.

Barring historical theme, this drama is good, solid acting from kids to elderly, set design,location always on point, somewhat predictable plot , that's way they wanted. Centered around nothing but upholding traditional Chinese Martial Art values . There's some comedic value in the shape of unintentional RoboCop Ah Fa, Donnie Yen lookalike younger brother and the intentional chicken foot. need to get used to typical neck and neck (who is not the brightest bulb?) contest among few characters which is also understandable. Overall good drama with plenty well crafted fight sequences
This drama falls in the quite chaotic time period China was going through, but they kept the chaos away from it. occasional references of historical events/figure like Lin zexu(first opium war) , rather his poem i wish they could have brought the open letter he wrote to Queen Victoria which was never answered/addressed.
34 eps in, woman directly asking man for marriage , is a refreshing thing in drama , maybe this will lead to a closure for the other two shy love birds.
