I’m trying to give this series a proper chance, but… I. AM. SO. FREAKING. BORED watching this. In such short episodes, it could barely hold my attention for more than a minute or two at a time.
I might be happy if the internal conflicts actually were mysterious, instead of merely being people preferring…
Yes, the sulking and not communicating is rampant here, but I do feel like a good bit of what’s going on with some of the characters is mysterious, though. The situation of Keam is still mysterious. No one really knows what’s up with him. So is the U and Song/Jay situations. I think we’ve more or less kind of guessed about everything else, maybe including these. But these in particular we might be in for a surprise?
And yes, Wen shirtless and sweaty was the highlight of this episode from me ;)
This episode was a whole lot of nothing and a lot of Jin telling Bbomb to do this and that to pick him up and…
OMG yes! Jin is making Bbomb into his do-boy, wants to cuddle up with him when HE wants, but then disses him whenever his older “friends” are around and then gets all weepy when Bbomb throws the truth in his face. I’m not falling for your tears this time, dude. You bringing all of this on yourself!
I feel like the writers would probably keel over if every single one of the characters didn’t have some mysterious internal conflict going on (that not even the viewers know what’s up).
Jin- You acting up and down, wishy washy because you’re sexually confused, because you want to keep flirting with everyone else like Bbomb thinks, or are you really just afraid to be open about your relationship?
Bbomb- Quit running around like a puppy after Jin and either let him figure his own emotional mess out or keep getting your feelings hurt.
Jack- You crushing on Som Som, but why you telling Bbomb not to trust your friend? That he wants to keep flirting around? Stay in your lane and get your own love life sorted.
Singh- Is your girlfriend really that messy? Where is she at? Did you guys break up? You seem lost!
Keam- Definition of enigma- don’t drink yourself into alcohol poisoning trying to figure out… taco or burrito ;)
Song/Jay- ????? Is Jay in love with his friend who is just a completely oblivious fool? Song… no words.
U- You seem a little overly invested in Bbomb’s romantic stuff. Take a look to your right instead… Wen is hot (and damn sexy dripping with sweat in that football practice). Focus that way ;)
Aim- Stay out your cousin’s love life. He’s an adult and you’re being a weirdo.
If these kids stopped worrying about literally everyone else besides themselves, they might have a chance at decent romantic lives. But I guess in BL-lalaland, that might as well be a capital crime.
I think old tropes are definitely a bad thing. Especially when you have ALL of them. Why do the girls always go…
I cackled when I read that you wrote “least attractive man in the cast”. Apparently, we viewers didn’t get the same hotness memo those screeching girls did.
But yes- bust out that guitar and see the girls (and guys) swooning left and right :|
I agree, the subtitles are horrible. There were huge parts which I actually did not understand. And other parts…
Oh, I definitely won’t judge the series over the subbing issue. I actually did say that it is a minor issue for me (I need subs more for the hearing issue than the language translation).
I am just a bit let down over the overused tropes on genderqueer or feminine gay characters as overly sexual or borderline harassing. Calling a guy you’ve never met before your next husband and blatantly ogling him would be a huge no-no in many places.
Also, the hordes of girls screaming and going crazy over “that one hot guy” is so old and overused and kind of unrealistic in my opinion.
The lack of explanation of the main character’s current situation can be confusing, as I see from another comment. So his boyfriend cheated on him and he decided to just up and disappear. Okay, so unless I zoned out and didn’t pay attention, some obvious time must have passed before he went back to school because now his “friends” or classmates call him lung/loong (uncle), which indicates he is more than a couple years older than they are.
The steamy initial scene seemed more like a way to suck people in right away more than anything (think back to “Together with Me”).
These are just a few things I noticed off the bat, but it’s not the end of the world. I just felt more confused than the usual “this is a new show, let me learn everyone and their names and backstory” kind of initial confusion. I’m going to keep on it because I always like seeing how the BL industry evolves.
After watching the first episode, I have to say I’m concerned about how high the rating is so far. I’ll try to keep my mind open, but so far I’m seeing lots of old tropes (which isn’t a bad thing) but not done in an interesting manner. Plus, the subbing on LINE TV is not that great. That’s a minor issue for me, but it is a little disappointing.
I LOVE this show. How the heck is it so underrated! Anyway. For the record MDL has the end date wrong. I only…
The show’s live transmission on Thai television was one week ahead of the episode releases on LINE TV. The dates weren’t wrong here, just not in sync for international viewers.
Honestly, I didn't like this show too much at the beginning, but now I'm sad it'll be over in a week. Peter, Boss,…
I love the song, too. One of my favorite parts of the show. Speaking of the visuals of the show… am I the only one who thought Ken (Joker) was a hottie? His picture here on MDL doesn’t do him justice, IMO…
Okay so Boss and Bomb are two extremely hot guys drooling over Jin. And Jin is oblivious to both, even after admitting…
I have not read the book, but just from watching the series so far, Keam seems like he could possibly be struggling with a sexuality awakening? He has a girlfriend that he seems to care about (as a person), but I don’t feel their romantic pull. But his behavior around Jin, Bbomb, and Ball suggest to me that he is maybe realizing that he has attraction to men. Just my two cents lol. I would be stoked if that’s true.
And I never thought about Jack and Singh being a possibility, but that would be hot! Singh seems like the dedicated type, and Jack needs someone to tie him down from his wild ways…
I am desperately trying to get into this show, but… what am I missing here? I feel like I can’t focus on what’s going on with the other people besides the main three friends group (Simai, MaiEak, and Phob). By extension, I’m really invested in Lukmo because his backstory is mysterious and seemingly very sad. But everyone else? Each episode, I completely forget who they are and why they are around. Copy couple and basketball couple have nothing interesting enough to pull me in. I love Newyear and Both (I follow NY on IG because I liked him from back in “I Am Your King”), but they don’t seem to add much to the show other than being the wise gays who know love so well that they are the go-to for advice. I’m going to continue to stick it out and hope that something will eventually click for me? Fingers crossed.
KIND OF lacking? Like the Holocaust was KIND OF like a bummer?
Good insight. I am also sick of the “here’s this girl that’s a better option for you” trash. I get that BLs aren’t proper examples of real LGBTQ life, but that constant push for heteronormativity is pretty disgusting feeling (at least to me).
I have had lots to say about this series… but let me finally say something positive (and yes, I feel sort of bad because it’s this specifically).
The make up between Mack and Art after the whole wallet fiasco was not super clear to me (I was probably spacing out or confused at the subbing). But- when they were getting down to business in the bedroom, the actors really gave it their all and there was some hot kissing and chemistry there. I was pleased lol.
This was on my youtube recommendations but oh lord, for the comments this is worse than My Toxic Lover so... part…
I would say run away… I’m only sticking it out because I’ve already invested more time in it than I should have. Beyond the messy storylines and questionable acting, the production issues are staggering. The audio issues are incredibly distracting and makes the show quite frustrating to watch.
I agree this episode was lacking in material. I think I was hoping the final scene would link up to the rest of…
I agree with everything you say, although I think it’s probably more that Bbomb isn’t confused about his feelings and that’s why he is making all the first moves. He’s probably flustered and pent up waiting for Jin to come to terms with what’s happening between them.
KIND OF lacking? Like the Holocaust was KIND OF like a bummer?
Definitely wouldn’t put it that strongly, but I wasn’t as bored with the lack of content like I have been with some other BLs in the past (see: My Gear and Your Gown). At the halfway point, at least the leads are (or at least one of them), is open about their attraction instead of dragging it out till the next to last episode. It’s just as far as meaningful content goes, episode 6 was way less so than the previous episodes. That’s all I meant by what I said.
