halfway through the drama now and purpose of this character is extremely questionable. what a waste of a second male lead if he can even be considered one?!

They could've been seriously creative with it. For example, stuck with the roguish anti-hero who butts heads with authorities like the way he was introduced at first and developed interesting subplots with it (would've made him a more legit love rival too against Lu Yi). Or just make him useful to the actual plot? instead we get an annoying fly that doesn't go away. Poorly written character, not the actor's fault

Can't tell if the story itself or the production/directing makes it seem flat, probably a bit of both. Leads literally carry the show, everything else is pretty weak.

edited: some secondary aspects and characters have grown on me as they come together. Wish there's more crime solving though

haha me too! Swear we're not alone here. I don't even find the guy to be that good looking at all yet his charisma is off the charts and now i cant get enough of him...I'm done

Breakout star who came out of nowhere and stole everyone's hearts with GMP. Super natural and already better than some actresses with more experience. That's talent ! Glad to see more work for her, can't wait to see her next big break !

Ren Jialun...Peng Xiao Ran... okay I stopped reading that mess of a synopsis but it's going on my watch list now. Hope PXR isn't just a support role though !

Mixed feelings about this drama. It's got the ingredients to be good - historical, crime-forensic, romance, and a brainy leading pair with good chemistry + acting on point, but the story bores me more than it has entertained.
As for the chemistry it's cute, partners-in-crime overcoming differences. Not too sure it will give me the butterflies... still they are easily my favorite thing about this drama so far (especially Lu Yi) and only reason why I'm still watching. please let it be worth it !

he seemed so intriguing at first especially the way he was introduced! Like some hot rugged robin hood type with a sexy playful side haha. Only up til ep 16 so will have to see if he gets better, still cant help but feel ...catfished

Strong female disguise trope - strong only up til the male lead comes along to save the day or her entire existence - is the worst. Nothing empowering or romantic about that. Huge difference between someone or something becoming your weakness, versus reverse development into a weak individual altogether because of it

Because dramas/TV is a business like everything else. And the drama-watching audience is predominantly female. Male eye candy + average female is great marketing tool

Well, I am a fan now. Had to make sure he was not a fluke and ended up binging a few of his dramas cause of him. Like who is this guy even?! charisma/presence is helplessly captivating

Surprisingly good. No big names for this cast (Ren Jialun is relatively unknown at the time of release - in fact, I believe this exposed him to the dramaworld) but the acting is strong. Ren Jialun is not at all handsome IMO, but this is the second drama of his where he has successfully won me over purely based on his acting. Decent characters aside, his portrayal and onscreen presence makes him soo much more attractive than he actually is. If that isn't charisma, then I don't know what is.

you are making me question my standards LOL actually find the CGI to be pretty good? well for a C-drama at least. Cdramas are generally notorious for animation atrocity though

This version is a likable mess with amazing leads/chemistry and best story plot-wise compared to other remakes, but the execution needs work. Having said that I could watch these two all day. First time watching Ren Jialun who kinda looks like a man-child yet has this onscreen presence and was great as Zi Xuan and Xu Xian.

also a MDL rating lol. Some of the actors considered best looking in China, HK etc, are further down this list or didn't make it (and vice versa). example: Li Yi Feng (not my cup of tea personally but ppl in China luurve him )

while i liked it i wasn't that into until 12-15 and then by ep19-20 i was sold and never looked back lol

These lists are subjective and seems more about hottest actor not just looks but also current popularity. Cant say about Lin Yi but seen both Yibo and Zhao Yi Qin in dramas, and Yibo is hands down WAYY better looking imo

That eunuch Zhao Gao is infamous for being favored by the King so he is both influential and corrupt af in history
