I just finished the novel yesterday, and while reading there was a note from the translators that said that the…
Didn't feel any hint of romance was implied in the drama version (plus a romance between the two is impossible for a few reasons), but yeah that "almost kiss" scene threw me off a bit there.
Considering the censorship issues/ BL ban and the workaround in the drama, definitely had my suspicions about other possible BL characters or pairings that existed other than the mains (namely Jin Guangyao towards Lan Xichen). So that clarification is helpful !
Did Xue Yang actually fall in love with Xiao Xingchen?! Obviously XY had conflicted feelings as he both hated/cared about the enemy, but I swear moments before it sunk in XXC wasn't ever going to wake up again ... looked like he wanted to kiss him?! For the novel readers was any love implied on XY's side?
Yi City arc is so heartbreaking the only thing that made me feel better is seeing a video of the two actors who seem like good friends offscreen having fun and joking about their characters/storyline
Agree! How he (the ML) interprets to look serious is to look constipated. Heck!
haha agreed @ forever trying to push one out. He's not all terrible though, like his micro expressions can be quite good and overall there is potential to be a solid actor someday (i mean he is only 21-22? and is actually decent in other dramas where he's not main lead) if he works on a few things
I'm guessing some people hates him because he has the mentality of a common person which is contrasting to WWX's…
Agree wholeheartedly with @Olive C's entire comment. JC is really most people who play it safe and let the situation pass, while WWX is the rare few - his actions are always risky, inspiring at best but comes with a cost way too often. Like y'all already mentioned, they're just different and can't relate to each other. Lan Zhan and WWX are also different in personalities, but I think their values are aligned where it matters (sense of justice, loyalty), while JC is always focused on the consequences, bigger picture in the practical sense or "what would people think?". In many ways, this makes JC a more suitable leader than WWX who has always marched to his own beat.
While I appreciate certain JC's qualities, the Wen Sect arc hit the nail on the coffin with way he handled the aftermath. Not to mention JC hardly (if ever) stood up for Yanli the few times Zixuan humiliated his sister in front of others for the sake of "consequences/greater good".
Wei Wuxian is up there as top all-time favorite fictional character for me personally. The story's intent to delve and explore the commonly misunderstood grey area is done wonderfully through this character.
Disappointing despite the potential. Acting is so-so, esp the ML..such shame cause he's total eye candy. don't recall him being as bad in other dramas?? guess he's just not main lead ready yet
Christ. Seen this guy in all these Kdramas (and occasional movie) over the years as supporting characters at best, and just like that he become an overnight breakthrough star from a movie. He was amazing in Parasite. Always good to see hard work pay off !
Besides being the excuse (for lack of better word) FJ uses to break Xianren's heart, what is the role of Ye Qingti in the novel? Does he have a bigger role once he becomes an immortal and does he recall his mortal experience with FJ? Does his feelings for her carry on?
Sorry not sorry but Alan Yu bores me to tears with his expressionless lack of acting. Hopefully this changes cause I like Yukee Chen and the storyline seems like it could be worth a watch
Just started and up to ep 9 so far. First thoughts:
Production wise, there are things I liked about this one more than TMOPB and vice versa. CGI is overall better but budget seems cheaper for some reason.
Also liked the original Zhe Yan better, the actor for this version seems a bit cringey in his attempts to be charismatic. But this version's Bai Zhen (4th uncle) is an upgrade over the original in both looks and acting, wish he was cast in TMOPB too.
