You said it in the beginning, poor acting, writing, production standards, etc. Yes, culture has a humongous part in it, but so does the need for writers to try and put their stamp on a genre a monster that really has no room or need to be reworked. Personally, I despise Twilight and all it's deplorable emo-ness. It has tainted the vampiric gene pool. But not even Twilight was as bad as to have a vamp drink dead man's blood. I'm sorry I still can't get over how bad Vamp Prosecutor is and that it has 2 seasons boggles. My biggest issue with modern and to be sure MODERN because old vamp movies are pretty damn good even comedies like Mr. Vampire. Anyway, the biggest issue it that they have nothing that makes them vampires. Oooh their eyes change color. So? For instance there was nothing that made Vampire Prosecutor vampiric. There was no reason for him to be one. He could have been Werewolf Prosecutor, Wizard Prosecutor, Immortal Prosecutor, etc. Until they learn to write a character that is deliciously evil and has no compulsion about eating you, they'll always fail.
I am absolutely in love with Memories of the Alhambra. I am not a gamer, but you'll have to work hard to find an action anime that I haven't at least watched 2 episodes of in the past *()* mumblemumble years. Swords aside, Memories is more like BTOOM! in that they're not in a game but are forced to kill/survive irl without knowing if they are in the game or not at first. Anywho the effects are great. I wanted to play...at first. OK that's a lie, I'd still try it but I'd be everyone's dang friend. LOL
Interesting info re WB Digital. My belief is DF started sliding downhill when the original owners sold it to a big communications company. I wanna say Viacom or something. It wasn't WB that much I do remember. I joined DF the first month it opened. I have no clue what year it was, but I saw a lot of changes many of whom I disliked. I do agree that adding the Spanish speaking shows just because there were many Spanish speakers was silly. They came to watch Korean dramas just like we did. It would be nice if they came back with some type of social component like the original DF and Netflix once had.
I'm like a cat to a shiny thing with live actions. I know that 9 out of 10 will suck but I watch any way. Sometimes I'm really surprised. I adored Kids On the Slope anime. I hope the live action gives the same feel. I feel like I've been waiting forever for Chihayafuru 3. I don't have much hope fore Real Girl or My Little Monster, but we'll see. I've seen or started other titles but I didn't much care for them. Thanks for the info.
Running Man literally saved my life. I watch it weekly without fail. I've not taken to any of the other variety shows. I did watch Infinite Challenge for a bit, but it seems to have really lost something and I despise Myung Soo. Crime Scene seems to be up my alley. I'll look for it. Thanks.
I left off the 2 cooking shows and midnight diner all though samurai gourmet may be one i will be watching
When I found out Another was PG-13, I almost didn't watch it. Part of me wishes I hadn't. I've never bothered with the When They Cry live action. I can't imagine it being satisfying. One of my friends and I are nervited about Bleach.

I've thought about Samurai Gourmet primarily because I'm a sucker for the word samurai. It's sad really. I forgot to say I love "nervited." That's how I feel about every live action if I already love the story. I've been disappointed oh so many times. I'm still not over the let down of Another (and it's been a few years) and the disaster of Attack on Titan.
Quite frankly, I'm happy to see Netflix adding more foreign content. I spent years making suggestions. Sometimes they listened, most times not. At first I thought your list was misleading because Battle Royale (and it's sequels) and 13 Assassins have been on Netflix since they hit DVDs. But when I re-read your title I realized you didn't say new titles. I think they've dropped a lot of titles to make room for newer ones which is our loss. Unless I've seen the anime (or know of it), I don't know from source material...don't really care. That being said Midnight Diner may belong on your list. OH! I saw they added or are adding some samurai. I thought it was Gintama or another version of Ruroni Kenshin, but it wasn't. Now I can't find it.
Yeah ... isn’t it a shocker? After Time, the first drama I watched was Falling for Innocence ... So I checked…
I'd really like to see him in Life On Mars. I enjoyed the British and American versions. It's been just long enough that the details are fuzzy. I think he'd do a great job from what I've seen.
Girl, Wu Chun? Not in one drama, but what was that..3? You get a time out. Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done! LOL Well, you did say you knew they weren't good. I'm sorry. I still love Meteor Garden (low cost F4 and all). I watched it all. MG, MG2, and Meteor Rain! Aw man, I'm singing F4 songs! I love Rainie, too. The problem is I usually hate everyone else around her. I wish she and Hu Ge would do something else together.
Well, let's hope they do better than Taiwan. That was a hot mess! Jiro was good and that's about it. I hope the leading 3 characters come close to the chemistry of Moko, Saki, and Hiro Mizushima.
