It’s Okay Not To Be Okay while reading this looong thing!
I must begin this review or whatever this is first by announcing my love for Kim Soo Hyun. I waited for this dude to return to drama as a lead again since he was an alien bf of my queen Jun Ji Hyun. But I also must confess that I was about to become an unfan because of the time he made me wait for it. The hardhearted ****! Gratefully, the wait was worth it!
I am not gonna talk about KSH because i need 50 blog posts of 5000 words each for fanwomaning. And badass babe Seo Ye Ji is already talked about at length for her brilliant acting skills which due to the very talented director was optimally exploited in this show.
Therefore, let's praise and bash the remainder of the cast/characters and the things I liked and didn’t in the story. Shall we!
First, Sang Tae oppa. I don’t think I remember him from the many other dramas He was in, because he impressioned this character on me by his acting. Yes. I am renesmee to his sang tae. Every bit of his presence on the screen was delectable to watch. Expressions, dialogues, body language, interjections, sounds, everything.
I cannot tell you how pleased i was to see Kim Joo heon again, my second time, after Romantic doctor 2! That too in a diametrically opposite role. Yippee! I have hots for him and his beauty mole since Teacher kim. A versatile actor he is.
Nam Joo Ri, never seen her before but liked her acting here. I started with, of course looking daggers at her but eventually forgave her for slapping Moon Young and hurling pink water at her. Just because it’s pink doesn’t mean it won’t hurt, kid. I know i know MY was almost a prospective psycho, but i pick sides from the beginning of a journey and stick by it till the end. And I picked her. Period.
Zowie! Momzilla! She was a mere plot device, me according. But a hot mama! Her acting switched between perfectly creepy at times to blowing the lid off the overdoing it. Yet, I loved her. That's only when her friendly cool mother hen head nurse act was unfaced, of course. Before that she was Song Su Bin’s (hospital playlist) soul sister. I thought mom-daughter looked kinda similar after mommy got the knives on her face. I am not promoting plastic surgery here, to be clear.
Jo jae soo, the sacrificing friend cum half of the leads of a potentiel gae tang-jae soo bl fanfic. Have I ever seen a character so confusing like him in my drama experience? Hmmm… Don’t remember. By confusing I mean, my confused feelings towards him. On the right hand, I was so choked by his undemanding and unrequited love for the Moon bros, on the left, I wanted to pinch him every time he was blabbering to Gang te about staying away from the “psycho”. Firstly, dude, not cool! Don’t judge a book by its glamorous gowns. It’s no different than those nasty people who were abusing Sang tae at that signing event thinking him a paedo. Moon Young is a rough arrogant b**** with a scar and trauma, the size of your height, in her heart. Also, you are unintentionally holding GT back from the ultimate let-go.
Moon Young was the much needed detonator to GT's longest pent up helplessness and frustration. He needed to take that pin off. So clueless chingu Jae soo, you gotta let him and yourself go. And how did you manage to get all those loans for business every year when the business lasted less than a year is the biggest mystery of the show for me.
AAh! Kim Ming Yung! One of my favourite ajjumas of kdrama. She never surprises me. Because, I believe she has range so vast, i will take it casually even if she be the fl in a drama. And her character here was soooo XOXOXOXO.
Park Jin Joo, another girl I love. Super talented. She would be the fl were it not kdramaland. Her acting, for me, most of the times steals scenes, and the rest of the times, in my mind, she is sharing the same spotlight as the main leads. Versatile af!
I love Baek hae soon too. She’s been starring in cameos in many dramas for some time.
Kim Chang Woon is as usual a good actor. He strangely has the same mannerisms of playing every character, yet looks convincing and different in all of them!!!!!! But his character here, OMIGOD! It was a kind-hearted naive female lead’s character. And although almost everything shown in this drama is okay not to be..., being a head of a psychiatric hospital and not knowing a psychopath is under your nose sharing in your patients' secrets and participating in watch parties of the CCTV footage with you, is not at all okay. You should have hired Jae Soo. he has a "psycho" detector integrated in his system.
The most annoying character for me in this whole show was that privileged brat Oh Cha Young. This was another irresponsible action from the Doctor chief. Is a hospital, any hospital, especially one where patients are treated for not being in full control of their minds, a place to intern your arrogant uninterested daddy-don't-give-me-love-and-time son as an orderly? How many accidents did he cause? And yet not got fired. He should have been booted out just because he got the job by the credit of nepotism. Whatever! Seems like this female lead isn’t that flawless.
Overall, I loved the show because of its emotional journey. Perfect casting. Great acting from everyone. Even though I was a little pissed at GT for hurting MY over and over again when he knew how hurt she already was and how she opened up and gave in to him, her pushing him away in the last episodes was a little let up. I wanted him to chase after her some more like she did. But whatever! I loved the character development. Loved the ending. Loved the story. But my favourite parts in the whole show, besides KSH’s face on my LAP-TOP, were the fairy tales and their connection to each episode. I looked forward to the stories in each episode. And even though i have come a long way from expecting stories and dramas to have a lesson at the end like Aesop’s fables, this was a refreshing change.
Do I even have to mention the soundtrack. It's been looping in my Spotify for the last one month so hard, that it probably already be dizzy by now.
So, with that, sweet friends, until next KSH time, could totally be fifteen years from now, gwaenchanha!
He didn't vanish. He was serving in the army. He's currently an MC for SBS's reality show "K-Trot in Town" that…
He was? Oh, I didn't know. I kinda haven't been keeping up with kdramas and actors stuff for some time. Thanks for the update. Hope he comes back with an equally good drama. I fell in love with him in The package.
