Spoilers regarding TYY and KJ's relationship for the remaining episodes (26-30). Skip to last paragraph for ending relationship status.
Ep 26. TYY goes to Beijing with her Senior Chen for his surgery. She meets KJ's former law partner's wife and finds out that KJ took responsibility for settling all the problems caused, once he came back to Beijing, after running away. EP 27. TYY comes back to Shenzhen. KJ and TYY talk on the beach. TYY mentions tomorrow is KJ’s last day before he leaves the firm and asks him to hug her. They side-hug, sitting on the beach. Next day we are shown TYY is moving into his office and he has left. EP 28. KJ meets with the partners of the law firm he plans to join. He said he will give them an answer soon. He video-calls TYY after that. She is doing a headstand when she answers. They talk a bit and then he asks if she misses him. She asks him what he said (as if she didn’t hear it). He changes his question to a generic comment, and she said he hasn’t changed, but still says yes that she does miss him then she hangs up. KJ goes to see Senior Chen. Senior Chen wishes TYY had someone by her side in the difficult time in the firm. KJ says he plans to follow his heart. At the end of the episode, TYY is staying back working late (11:30pm), KJ shows up sitting in her chair. He asks her for a position as partner, and says he has an apartment in Shenzhen now, she is welcome anytime, and has finished his business in Beijing. TYY asks if that is his answer, he says its a new beginning and he will start that new beginning by working with her on her current legal aid case. TYY smiles and is happy.
EP 29-30: Relationship remains "undefined" for the last 2 episodes. They are working side by side and happy. In ep 29, they go back to her place for a good time. In the final minutes of the show, TYY asks KJ why he stayed and he asks whether it matters. The writers try to push this "go with the flow" mentality. The show ends with TYY's voice over about what it means to be a lawyer with a and flashback to the cases. This pushes the point that the drama was 1st and foremost about her journey on becoming a better lawyer and growth as a person. Its possible that there was no physical contact in the final scene to emphasise this and make it not about the romance.
The show ended with an "undefined" but supportive relationship, and them working together at the law firm. In Ep 28, KJ said she could come to his apartment anytime, and in 29 they sleep together at her place. Due to them not defining the relationship, the closest would be a "friends with benefits" stage at the end of the show, as they still refer to each other as Director Tang and Attorney Kang.
Well you were a lot smarter than I was regarding XY's red flags. Unluckily the story line will be going back to…
Yeah the handbag thing was quite confusing. What I recall, is that her ex-husband wanted to buy her the fake one (ep 9 start) but she insisted on buying the real one (which she paid with from her phone so i thought she paid for it). The irony was, the girls on the train still considered it a fake despite her buying a 2nd hand legit one. The poop is going to hit the fan in future episodes with Xiao Yun so get ready for the drama.
I completely forgot that we still haven't been told what happend with Kang Jun's old law firm. You are absolutely right. In his "decision" discussion with TYY I dare say those details are going to be revealed. Smart thinking.
I would hardly say Fang Wei'An was a fling for TYY. She was comfortable with him and trusted his warmth and care. He was "safe", but wasn't someone who passionately lit up her heart.
How did KJ unsettle TYY in ep 1? I just watched ep 1 and the start of 2 again and she was extremely confident and headstrong against him in their first 2 meetings (ep 1 and 2). I know later he got under her skin but from what I've watched, she was just treating him with as much confidence as she could their for her client's sake in their first encounters. I don't ever feel like she has felt like KJ "get's her"; i'd say instead she feels love from him and a support that brings light to her life. When they were on the bed in the hospital she said something like "your eyes shine bright as stars" which was right after saying the darkness that her mum locked her in. It isn't about him understanding, it's about him being a light in the darkness.
I started watching this drama because of Lin Yu Shen, but I couldn't even get through 10 episodes. The Same Old…
You are spot-on regarding it's genre. I was just thinking today how this is a real melodrama. I personally have enjoyed what air-time Lin Yu Shen and Xin Zhi Lei have had, but rather than showing their lawyer prowess, the majority has been story telling and flash backs of guest actors from case to case. If the drama had them on screen a lot more, it would have made a big difference.
As for the strong female lead, her being in a relationship and KJ being a support system... i felt differently about it and that it was quite ok and natural. TYY really didn't like KJ at the start, why would she even consider him a partner back then? The story line made sense, some guy wanted to date her so it happened. I think its realistic. Also I don't think the "love-triangle" troupe was like a huge "ratings booster" as the relationships literally took up less than 10% per episode. My biggest crticism of the drama (and yes there a few) would be that the FL and ML didn't get enough screen time. They were good enough and engaging characters to show more about them rather than making them almost side characters.
In any case, I appreciate your thoughts about the drama and think its a fair assessment.
watched ep 24 and no sight of TYY huft 😭atp i’m genuinely scared their relationship is only gonna get resolved…
totally with you - ep 25 has equally no progress as the episode is all about case for the two girls. TYY and KJ only speak briefly at the beginning but about work related things.
Eps 26 and 27 i think TYY is in Beijing escorting her mentor with his hospital visit so I don't see anything progressing for those episodes. Best I think we can hope for is a discussion in ep 28 with 3 episodes of them being together.
Totally agre it feels unnecessarily stretched out. Would have rather they were already together and sorted out the issues together.
Well you were a lot smarter than I was regarding XY's red flags. Unluckily the story line will be going back to…
hmm im a bit blind to understanding if its a well written complex character or whether its sloppy writing just trying to drag out the story.
if you want a relatively large spoiler, i think the music video containing scenes from the drama at 32 sec - 38 sec gives us an indication of where we are heading https://w.mgtv.com/b/762213/24097830.html
So we'll only get 1 ep tomorrow ? Then the next day they'll release the express?
definitely only 1 ep tomorrow.
No release plan on weibo yet for the express, but what you say is the likely scenario. MDL has written 3 ep's are releasing the day after tomorrow and then the final two the day after that.
So let me get this...XY get a little bit of money and her first thought is to go buy Coco Chanel bag, oh and make…
Well you were a lot smarter than I was regarding XY's red flags. Unluckily the story line will be going back to her and her ex-husband very soon. Ugh.
I am still trying to piece together the KJ deal. He put his transfer to Beijing on hold to wait on TYY's response. She gives it to him and says lets make it work and somehow that's not good enough? I don't get it. Was he was hoping she'd say no so he could leave cleanly? And since when has he been indecisive about something? He knows himself, he could have given her an answer on the spot. He cares about her feelings more than his own, and he knows she doesn't want to wait for an answer so his character would have responded. Insecurities aside, he put his ex's feelings first and he would put TYY's first and give her a response so what is going on.
Oh a side note: how incredible was that, that TYY shook off all her mentor's talk about KJ not belonging at the firm. That would have taken a lot of emotional strength not to feel pressure there to let him go, but instead she faces it head on with KJ.
How do we know? Because it feels, we have seen such scenes before! Just like we know that in a murder mystery,…
Appreciate your extra insight. That all makes a lot of sense. Thank you for taking the time to write those extra thoughts as it helped me have peace with the scene! <3
How do we know? Because it feels, we have seen such scenes before! Just like we know that in a murder mystery,…
valid point about us having seen similar situations before. it just sounded like a farewell speech from my opinion, so i would have written a bit of concern on the FL's face. it was painfully obvious she was saying goodbye.
Episode 4 spoilers: Ok the FL is best friends with the 15th princess and has known her since childhood and is a smart investigator, but SOMEHOW she doesn't realise her best friend is about to jump off the platform after going up to give a dance for the emperor. Even when she started speaking , we as the entire audience knew she was going to jump and SOMEHOW the intelligent FL isn't worried at all until she jumps. Yikes.
yeah, the leads are dubbed. instantly recognised the female dubber from the first word she spoke as she's used the same cutesy voice for Feng Jiu (FL) in 'Eternal Love of Dream".
If you go to the 'actors' page on MDL and scroll down, there is a section 'Voice Actors' both the leads have a voice actor for their character.
atp i don’t even care about the case anymore, it’s getting ridiculous 😂 there are barely any courtroom…
haha the cases are very "unique" thats for sure. it's a "difficulty in relationships" drama with mentioning the law a few times lololol
that's insightful regarding the thoughts on the KJ and TYY relationship. I liked how you mentioned that she jumped into the relationship with Fang Wei'An without hesitation, but here has been a lot more reserved. I just find it strange how KJ asked her if she has feelings for him and she said she needed to think about it, rather than just saying yes but she has to work out some things. in ep 23 she says of course I have feelings for you, i wouldn't play with your feelings like that, like she needed 3 episodes to say that, when she already knew before. I have really loved how they built the relationship through the 20 episodes, but the talk in ep 23 and the pull back from Kang Jun since then is insane and doesn't make sense to me.
It just hits different when mature adults fall in love, are lovey dovey, kissy kissy...it's just a different kind…
absolutely agree its a beautiful thing to see mature adults in love.
you were a lot more lenient to the professor saga than I was. nice thoughts about it not being a legitimate case.
PeiLin is honestly more capable than both KJ and TYY. She's great and absolutely is the appropriate person to be the director of the firm. PeiLin is my favourite character outside our girl, Bai Tong.
What you just said about KJ and TYY...like WTF is the writer thinking 🤔 🙄 😒 It doesn't make any sense…
haha no they are just drawing it out. they will stay together. but to "prolong it" they made him now the one delaying them finally being a couple. maybe i missed some important details in the conversation, so feel free to provide some insight once you watch the episode.
episodes 22 and 23... kind of a weird case with a woman not wanting to do a DNA test on the child for her husband, and it leading to the dissolution of the marriage. I get it, that it was more about the lack of communication between the couple (him talking to her about his concerns rather than doing things secretly) but I don't know, show becoming a bit too preachy again. The big push of this story line was the pregnant lady's right to not get the test, her rights as a person. While it is true, strange to make 2 episodes of a "law" drama about it. It was only slightly more interesting than the strict professor saga from the previous episodes (and those episodes were very weak).
Weird shift in relationship between the leads. KJ was considering staying at the law firm if TYY had feelings for him, and in episode 23 she says "yes I do have feelings for you" and "go do your thing if you want to work in Beijing, we can still make it work". Then she asks him "do you want to be together?" - and he says NOTHING. I really don't understand what on earth what crap the writers are trying to pull. He got what he wanted. She wants to be with him, and doesn't mind him focusing on his career in another city and he's like now... "oh im not sure and have to think about it". ARGHKHKHDDlKJ Ratings falling to 7.7? Send it to 7.5 immediately lol
Just finished episode 19 and the birthday flashback was heartbreaking. What I'm sensing is that TYY is just waking…
mmm! i never thought about what Wei'An wanted from TYY but that makes a lot of sense. Yes I think the washcloth was a turning point in her trust for KJ.
I really don't think the writers would dare not have them together at the end. I don't want any of this long-distance crap, they 100% need to be partners at the law firm AND in a solid relationship. We have had to bear with some less than ideal story telling in the show - so they need to deliver on this relationship! haha
All valid points. I think it was a really decent part of society to explore and I think it was well covered. The…
I was wrong about Xiao Yun - she did everything the right way with the client and bought the bag with a negotiated pay increase. She hasn't lost her integrity and is committed to being a good lawyer.
Ep 26. TYY goes to Beijing with her Senior Chen for his surgery. She meets KJ's former law partner's wife and finds out that KJ took responsibility for settling all the problems caused, once he came back to Beijing, after running away.
