interesting analogy about the scale, and in one aspect correct. however she said she would suppory Peilin in whatever…
fully appreciate your perspective and reply. each person's life experience will interpet the events that happen in the show differently. the definition of infidelity is pretty concrete (sleeping with a person that is not your partner). some people can see past it, others can't.
yes FL was a voice inside Peilin's ear for that month ,but this is very like real life where people marry because of someone else's opinion eg. the womans father likes that man, or when a friend tells their best friend NOT to divorce. Nothing happens in isolation and there are many things that contribute to an outcome. You might not like how the FL meddles but there are many people in life just like this and that's just the reality.
Is the FL a textbook hero? No. But I dont think this story is trying to make her be one. It's showing a person very competent in some aspects, and undeveloped in others. She has her strengths and weaknesses, and is very much like most of us trying the best with the cards dealt to her.
interesting analogy about the scale, and in one aspect correct. however she said she would suppory Peilin in whatever…
100% agree that the whole first case went from "guy is acquitted" to serving time. completely unexplained that once she found out about the truth from the victim, how he still got convicted. Complete plot hole and the weakest part of the series yet not even giving an inch to explain how it happened.
Yes FL did ignore Peilin's comment when they first discussed, but the hubby had 100 opportunities to right the wrong and convince Peilin otherwise during the following month. Peilin was still hopeful the outcome could be different
Irrespective of all that, the conversation that the FL and Peilin had after Peilin and her husband said "goodbye" was that Peilin had lost herself in the relationship already a year prior to that and was having trouble sleeping. That conversation showed she divorced to reclaim her identity and peace rather than it being anything outside of herself. I found the conversation was a bit preachy and directed to the audience about being one's own light, but thats a side rant haha.
In my opinion the fact that Peilin was willing to have a 3rd baby for her husband at the likely detriment to her own health and body showed she was priortising his wishes over her own bottom line, for the sake of her love for him. When that love and willing to give was not reciprocated, (with him seeking a male heir with another woman) all bets were off and why it makes full sense she could not reconcile with the infidelity.
Lin Xiao Yun....sigh sigh đ đ smh right now. They say, "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes" and…
hahaha those two people did indeed win stupid prizes!
yeah i think LXY was 100% bluffing with the pregnancy. her husband (ex) said she had changed which I think was the biggest hint for the audience to know she would use methods she would have previously not considered. The actress played a character I didn't like in Sword Snow Stride so I still see elements of her selfish character from that in this drama haha
Peilin's husband, yeah he was thick as bricks. The first thing he did when his infidelity was discovered was try to justify it, then went with the "i was wrong" approach and didn't say more than 2 words about the matter. It was a bit robotic and hardly like a loving husband. So 20 years loving communicator then cheats and lies? A 2D and nonsensical character. For me, his significance to the story was to show the ML would not prioritise money over values.
I watched that scene of TYY swoon over director Kang's speech to the victims of the scam 5 TIMES, it was so well done. How she went to him afterwards and hardly was able to utter a compliment was hilarious. My favourite scenes so far. A great start to them working better together.
Director Kang repeatedly said in meetings something to the extent of "we are all in this together - we need to work together" so it was very in line with his motto to "leave no one behind". Yeah few would lead like that in real life, but it was consistent with his workplace mentality he has been trying to promote.
I'm going to be that personâ don't throw tomatoes at me... i know this ain't abt romance BUT does this have…
FL's romance with her boyfriend is that 1% as a subplot, but I think it is entirely possible that the FL and ML will form a relationship in future episodes. There is a subtext in the story that makes one strongly believe that the FL and ML are endgame.
Loved, loved, loved your summary and thoughts on the show so far. When TYY didn't listen to her boss on the rainy…
Mmm! Really appreciate your further analysis. I think you are right in that the report he made is irrelevant. We saw in her most heated and "real" moment in the rain on the mountain she said "it's not the first time you've fled at the critical moment. In Beijing didn't you abandon your partner? Now abandon me! I don't need you!" - so that deeper level of anger to him is from her seeing him as someone who abandons people... like her father did to her, and then her mother did to her. Abandonment to her is the source of her greatest pain and why she hardened herself to the world. So it makes sense how she treats the ML with that hostility. Fabulous writing and acting from the FL to make the character so real, relatable and layered.
Feel free to write all your thoughts on the show! I would be very happy to read them! :)
P.S In Episode 10 after a conflict and the FL walks off, the ML talks to himself "its like we are talking past each other, we are not even discussing the same thing". such a good reflection to show how the FL thinks all his words are poison haha
fl has pattern of putting a finger on the scale to get her friends divorced. ml interceded to let her assistant…
interesting analogy about the scale, and in one aspect correct. however she said she would suppory Peilin in whatever she decided to do, despite her own strong opinion. Peilin said to her husband "i tried to convince myself to stay" so it's not like the FL decided their outcome.
I did like how the ML showed the assistant her husband's true character by telling him he wouldn't take on his case. Without her seeing that side of her husband, she wouldn't have likely started having thoughts to divorce.
You are right, female lead has been a bit of a judge in the cases so far. She's made each case personal. I like how the former boss told the ML not to "clip her wings", because although a bit too involved, she is more passionate about people and "her sense of" justice than anyone else there. yes, 100% a biased justice but i think her character has been pretty consistent in her personality so far.
I gotta ask, is it that hard to have a lead with a normal husband in these dramas đ€đ Like, why do these…
Loved, loved, loved your summary and thoughts on the show so far.
When TYY didn't listen to her boss on the rainy mountain and then full criticised him abandoning his previous company, that was the first time I was a little caught off-guard of how headstrong she is. At the same time, so accurate for being like a person in real life.
Absolutely agree with the boyfriend and TYY dynamic. However, I don't think her boss makes her feel uncomfortable from seeing who she truly is. She has said twice or thrice "you really don't understand women" - so she doesn't feel he gets her at all, and she doesn't particularly like him at this stage, because she has a lot of mis-impressions of who he is as a person. The first moment she actually starts to understand his character is when he is digging for her on the mountain, and she's like "oh this guy is not a complete ass who abandons his friends after all". If you remember, he reported her for malpractice after her case against him, so on top of her misunderstandings, she also has a grudge for that haha
PeiLin is such such a good friend to TYY. I mean she is the best. Kinda crazy they threw in the cheating husband thing, but it was probably for the "a smart, successful woman who is admired by all still doesn't have it all" kind of thing. In any case I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what she decides to do now and the conversation she has with her husband!
The assistant lawyer, yeah probably my least favourite story-line of the show, but another facet of life so it isn't the worst thing to explore.
It was very interesting to have the boss still conversing with his ex and her sending him a picture. I'm curious as to the reason they broke up, and more so curious to find out what happened with his previous company.
Let's hope the story continues strong! :)
P.P.S: I had a Pepsi T-shirt in the 90s with the 'been there, done that, doing it tomorrow' slogan. so cool to hear you reference a shirt like that in the saying!
Seeing your comment below, does FL have a boyfriend? So is there no hint of slight romance between FL and ML?
FL starts a romantic interest with another male in episode 4, elevates the relationship with that male to boyfriend a few episodes later.
From the moment the FL and ML interact in the series, there is tension. It's a enemies tension. The FL doesn't like the ML but from episode 6 we are shown the ML likes her and is pursuing her. In episode 7 he's trying to break down her self-defense shield, (even when she has a boyfriend) and he constantly tries to support her. Although there is no romance, their bickering suggests tension that might turn into romance.
I really like Peilin and XiaoYun as side characters, as the series shows their own challenges as people.
While the FL doesn't like the ML still at episode 7, we are shown that she doesn't know what happened with his law firm, and doesn't know what he has been through as a person. We have been shown a lot about the FL's life and story but I like how they are staging it to reveal more about the ML's character as the story goes on.
Episode two midway there was music and a scene to suggest romance might be on the cards.
So in episode 6 we find out he likes her, but she at the moment really doesn't like him at all and always gets annoyed at what he says and does haha she also has a boyfriend now (Fang Wei An) whom of which the ML is jealous of.
I think there is a good chance there will be a romance between the ML and FL much later in the story, but for now they have to be at "war" because it makes the story so much more entertaining.
I watched this drama for the 3rd time recently and it stands solidly as my favourite K-drama (followed by Crash Landing on You). The musical accompaniment of the touching scenes make this drama something indescribably special.
I watched this drama a few years ago. I was so angry at the time at a few of the the non-logical things things that happen in the final quarter.
I watched the drama a few months ago again and there are so many beautiful and emotional scenes so I increased my rating (the later scenes that previously bothered me no longer phased me).
I recently I watched all the scenes that made me cry once more and I upped my rating again.
Obviously this drama isn't perfect and it's not for everyone, but for me, and for and some people it will touch their hearts in ways other dramas don't manage. It's inexplicable and special. This this drama holds such a special place in my heart. I am thankful this drama was made <3
