Absolutely awesome drama. Love how the storyline progressed and how well the story was written. Good balance between romance, politics and angst for my taste. Loved the FMC, her smile was contagious and she is no pushover. Probably will read the webnovel as well.
i need someone to explain to me the tiger tally/fake tiger tally plot, why xie zhengs mum hanged herself, and…
Tiger tally: During the meeting Wei Yan said to the prince to overthrow the emperor because emperor at that time was bad but the prince says no. Li Qing reveals this conversation to emperor and the emperor gets paranoid. At war, Wei Yan gives Wei Qilin the tiger tally knowing that wei qilin would be framed. Wei qilin shows it to the emperor and asks for the reinforcement but the emperor says that it is a fake one. At this point the emperor had already forged a letter by Wei Yan's lover who was in the royal harem and asked Wei Yan to bring the troops to the capital. Wei Yan takes the army back to capital but learns that she didnt write the letter. Due to this, the prince and Xie zheng's dad die in the battle. Because Wei Qilin couldnt go without the reinforcement, the grain cannot reach the front lines and 100000 people die and Wei qilin is branded a traitor. This connects to the capital where the castle is burning, burned by the emperor. The emperor wanted to get rid of the records of tiger tally so that if someone brings the real thing in the future, there would be no evidence. In the present, the only one that knew about the truth was Wei qilin so Wei Yan ordered his men to kill Wei qilin and his wife along with his daughters.
Xie Zheng's mom: Xie Zheng's dad wrote to Xie Zheng's mom that they asked reinforcement from Wei Yan (her own brother) but he refused. As it was her own brother, she could not choose to expose Wei Yan or get justice for her husband. She wrote a letter to Wei Yan hoping that this incident would make him take the right path in the future but because of the guilt, he never looked at the box so he never found the letter.
Qi min's mom: Wei Yan staged a coup to kill the actual heir Qi min so that he could put someone he could control in the power. The only way Qi min's mom thought that she could save her son was to burn herself and her son's face so that they wouldnt recognize the son and thought they had both been burned alive.
Wei Yan was a good guy but due to some unfortunate circumstances, he choose to do wrong things so that he could survive. In his mind, if he survives, he would be able to make Yin a stable nation.
Re-watched this after 5 years and have to applaud the details. The hospital scenes, the emotions and specially…
The hospital scenes specially in the ICU, as someone who has visited people in ICU, the wearing gowns, mask and the hospital clothes are so accurate. Most dramas just show the characters entering and exiting the icu without any care in the world but this drama did that very well. The emotions, people struggling internally, decisions they make throughout the series involving the emotions. The detective scenes are so well put together. As the detectives solve the case, you are shown what happened in the crime scene but the actors act according to the information that the police currently have and as they get more evidence and information, the same crime scene actors play it out but with different dialogues. It is really well done and I have only seen Stranger and this drama show it like this.
Dropped because i couldnt stand watching any more of Steve Lee.
I am sure he would have given the order to kill the 21 himself if he was in the position, and not only that but he would have convinced the other four to kill the 21 himself in stead of being convinced. Biggest bum ever. Since he was the only one alive, I am sure that the true story is he shielded himself with his friends body and his friend did not protect him. The actor did really well making me hate the character to the point of dropping it.
There is no suspense from the start as you are shown Killer's perspective from the very first case yet the thing that keeps you interested is what is the reason behind their actions. It kept me interested throughout the show. As the show goes on, you already know who the killer is and who she is targeting but you want to know what might be her next action. I feel like Kara was the best in the series.
People seemed to prefer ML over FL but I felt the opposite. Although I agree that the FL is slow and trusting nature, she is right about getting evidence. From the detective's perspective, Kara gets more and more suspicious as the drama goes on and not right from the start yet the ML jumps the gun and says she is suspicious right from the first case. By the 2nd episode he says to FL not to hang out with Kara. He has his doubts, which is good but what good is interrupting the investigation if you dont have the proof. We know he is right because we are shown Kara's perspective from the start but if you think about what the detectives know during the first 4 episodes at least, its not as suspicious.
Another thing that I see often, and this drama does it as too, is people entering ICU without any gowns and masks which is really stupidly inaccurate if you entered ICU to visit your friends or family in real life. I would understand if it was difficult thing to achieve but getting gowns and mask is not that hard of a task.
Chief Kang was the most naive among all the characters despite the high position, 27 years of experience. She was too blinded by her goal. She asked the ex-Chief/Current Congressman to call her by her friend's name but I can say for sure that her friend would have hated the fact that the name was used in vain, to commit crimes and to conceal justice. The same justice the friend was trying so hard to protect and killed herself for. I hated the fact that she made the choice to commit those crimes after adopting her friend's name. They really tried to make the death of Chief Kang a sad one but I felt no sympathy for her. She did not deserve any tears or good words. I would have loved to see more scenes between Chief Kang and Eo Su Seon because Eo Su Seon resembled the ideologies that Chief Kang's friend represented. There would have been a good dynamic between them if the show focused a bit more on that.
The ICU scenes were well researched in this drama because I don't remember the last time in a drama, where I saw people going inside ICU with gowns which is accurate in real life too. Many dramas just show people going in ICU without any gowns.
The early episodes were filled with some serious moments and really well complimented with funny moments. Even the criminals showed emotions, were caught off guard, felt like they were humans too and didn't feel "untouchable". Great overall
Apart from the people at the higher positions, the characters who were shown as "evil" initially all had really good character depth. They all had their own reasons to fight and backstory which was shown well. They were following the orders from top but they had struggles emotionally to complete the order. Relationships between the "evil" characters were well done with the flashbacks. It all felt very natural. Unlike many dramas where couple of episodes would be forced because everything is revealed already, this one had good use of backstory and used the backstories as a build up to the final few episodes.
The character depth and struggles of the students however was not shown/emphasized well enough in my opinion. Also the ending was full of action but it kind of felt underwhelming given they spent around 8 episodes to build it up with amazing backstories.
If there was more emphasis on: Weight of emotions Bong Seok had felt being protected by his mom all the time and guilt Huisu felt that she caused her dad problems because of her actions, along with good ending episodes it would definitely be 10/10 for me
