Kind of unrelated, but since you mentioned their names in Cantonese, I have to say one of the biggest joys of the series for me was hearing Liuyi’s voice yelling “Ho Cho Sam” or something like that anyway.
Also, another unpopular opinion: while everyone else found the dub annoying, it was actually the dub that made me fall in love with the language. It sounds like music to my ears.

Not everyone can understand the depth of the characters or that the story itself is written in a way that makes viewers feel uncomfortable and dislike the ML. It's not a typical love story, their love is raw, painful, and suffocating. So you did the right thing by dropping it.

Don’t apologize, I completely understand you! I think I’ve mentioned it in another post too, but I’m absolutely obsessed with this story, the novel, the series, the actors, everything. But especially the novel 💛 It’s by far one of the best danmei I’ve ever read. Like I already said, I’m currently reading it for the third time, (and I only discovered it after the series started airing, so we’re talking about a pretty short amount of time 😅)

I truly love both characters so much, but yes, Liuyi is my weak spot too. I’m sure part of it is because of how difficult his childhood was and because he basically never learned how to live for himself or for his own desires. And of course I love Chusan too, despite everything he did and all of his schemes. His reasons may have been selfish, but he did everything for Liuyi without considering anyone else, not even himself. And even though the ending is bittersweet, I mean the novel ending, not the extras, I thought it fit the story perfectly, so it didn’t bother me at all. Especially compared to so many comments I’ve seen online from people who disliked the ending because Liuyi spent so many years in prison. It felt very realistic to me, and honestly necessary, because he was a criminal after all, while also showing the consequences and the pain Chusan had to endure for his actions. That was also a natural outcome and an important lesson for him.

And since it seems like we have very similar taste, (Addicted was my first obsession too, followed by The Untamed), I’d also recommend Four Faced Buddha by Shu Erliang. Sadly, that one doesn’t have an official translation either, but you can find an excellent fan translation on Chrysanthemum Garden.

Unfortunately, we still don’t have an official announcement from the production company yet. However, the boys gave a very hopeful statement during one of their lives the other day, saying that we'll get a second season this year (if the translations are accurate).

True, that’s exactly what makes it so addictive. That and the writing. It just feels effortless in how it develops their bond, nothing forced or overdone.

It really was very painful! I read it till the end because it was so intriguing that I couldn’t stop. I wanted to see what would happen next and where the story goes. But if you ask me, I still can’t say whether I liked it or not, and that’s why I’m enjoying the series much more now, cause it's a bit toned down. It certainly left a lasting impression on me, though!

I totally get you, that’s why I got into it too, just to read some fanfics. I’ll probably end up going back since, like I said, the ones I read weren’t really that good. Right now I’m reading the novel for the third time.

A small correction: he isn’t getting married because his mother is forcing him to. Yi Chen’s mother had already passed away by the time he decided to leave Lu Feng and start a new chapter in his life. He gets married on his own accord.

It’s not silly at all, there’s probably something going on with the tags, but I’m honestly not the right person to help with that 😅 I’m pretty clueless about these things too and I get confused all the time.

I’ve seen pretty much every CBL out there, (meaning basically all the uncensored ones starting from Meet You at the Blossom onwards), and I’m also watching the ones that are currently airing , and honestly, I totally agree with you. I really enjoyed RL overall too, but I never fully got the insane hype around it either. I liked ABO more as well, but the pacing in the last few episodes really threw me off. The finale especially felt way too rushed and it honestly ruined a big part of the experience for me.

Sammy's CD is absolutely a masterpiece, not just as a BL, but genuinely one of the best shows I’ve watched in recent years. The only CBL I love just a little more than Sammy’s is To My Shore. That one is honestly in a league of its own for me. If you’re into dark romance and morally gray characters, I seriously can’t recommend it enough.
