I really hate how many adults in this are being unreasonably evil/mean towards students but i get it - it is supposed to be nothing more than a plot device so the relationships between students get stirred and we get to see more of that 'school and pain and woes of teenagers' which is this series known for. Besides for that I really enjoy it.
I think they will try to mix the broken bromance from School 2013 (which we all loved, right?) and throw a romantic interest in a form of Eun Ho in it. I only hope that the friendship between all main leads will get enough space as well because i like their dynamics a lot
very enjoyable and creative article! I totally apreciate your scientific approach :D However, i wish you have added more examples from analyzed dramas to the conclusions you made because I am really curious about /details/ :D (and same goes for your sorting, i think it would be great if you showed how you sorted at least one character/most notable character of all analyzed dramas :) i know you added link to you tumblr but i think it would made your article more whole) maybe it would open a great discussion about different characters among us :D.
For example, I dont really think Geum Jan Di (BOF) is hufflepuff - i would sort her more as a gryffindor as she took very active role in everything what was going on. It feels like her dynamics with Gu Jun Pyo was absolutely different compared with Soo - So couple.
Anyways, I am a little bit surprised to see that most of main characters are hufflepuffs. I mean, now that I think about it, it does make sense but I wouldhave thought that there will be more gryffindors as there are always many characters who are brave hotheads who want to change and save the world/society. But at the same time it is no wonder that there are so many hufflepuffs and slytherins because just as you stated - puffs are very likeable and relatable and when they are coupled with slytherins, they make them somewhat softer (and everyone loves the 'soft cute sunshine coupled with grumpy ice block who is more bearable only thanks to the nice one' stereotype).
((I really wish that people whould stop associating evilness with the slytherin house, though. It really isnt something inherently connected with the house and more like something that was given by the age in which is HP story dated in (you know. in between two great wizards wars etc)..))
I wonder if Ki Kwang's personality is at least little bit like this? I cannot imagine how awkward it must be to play 'yourself' while it's not actually you lol.
i liked the first part when it was more focused on a friendship between girls and their business. the second part got more focused on romantic relationships and i found it kinda boring although i must say i liked the plot twist towards the end and ending overall.
Based on the synopsis (not the one from mydramalist) it seems like Eun Jae broke up with her boyfriend T-T they…
I think the breakup is for the better. I also loved the couple but with the change of the actress people would be only comparing her to the previous one. I think it is better to give the new actress 'fresh' start
I was so bored and just watched all new episodes, and holy crap this drama is really all over the place. Does…
Actually, 3 dramas means that the writer has been around for quite some time. Even more surprising is that Jung Yoon Jung wrote script to Arang and the Magistrate (2012) and Misaeng/Incomplete life (2014) which are both very solid dramas. The third drama - Monstar (2013) was quite a slip up in terms of quality but then again it was drama for mnet full of idol actors... I had high hopes for this drama mainly because it is by a screenwiter of /that misaeng/ (which i still have not seen but it is still celebrated as very high quality drama) but instead it feels like writing is not that good
first two episodes were quite fresh and entertaining! i think the show is off to a good start (and I am a little surprised with somewhat low rating from the begining. Early-raters are usually more generous than this).
Imo all main leads have good chemistry and I am pleased to see that Sejeong is doing well in a main role. ngl i was quite worried to see her in such big role as a debut but it seems like writing of the show is going in her favour.
At first I was a little bit confused because of this change but after watching 2 series with this format I became quite a fan of it. I think i finished The Guardians only thanks to this format because it was easier to 'watch one more episode' but thats hard to explain. I think this little 'psychological' change will be the only thing that will have impact on some viewers but really, it is insignificant in a larger scope (at least for now).
Lets be honest, nothing really changes - the writing is same like it was for 60 minute shows but with forced break, the workload for shooting crew is same, product placement will still play big part - the change was made for the money from between-episode commercials during prime time (which cost more than commercials after the end of drama). Although I guess it might help with exporting dramas into China and Japan.
I think your arguments with Something about 1% are kinda questionable. Firstly, ratings here on MDL mean for basically nothing for kdrama makers - yes, we rate 'quality' of the drama but tastes of international fans sometimes differ and for production crews is more important how well is the TV show accepted in Korea. Secondly, you are comparing cable TV drama made in 2016 with MBC drama made in 2003. It is kinda obvious, that people will like shorter, prettier, no-nonsence version of drama just because it is more suitable to our current tastes. I couldnt find any TV ratings for 2003 version but i bet they were much bigger than the ones for 2016 version (again, due to many reasons) which could rule the 2003 version as more succesful and 2016 as a flop.
(btw. adding 'We heart it' as a source is same as adding 'google.com' as source for information you cited - pretty useless.)
The first episode made me suuuper angry with how everyone was so shallow and the rest of the show didnt really make me forget it - to me it still felt like everyone was too focused on looks. It would be better if the point of the story was 'love yourself despite your imperfections' instead of that 'inner beauty' crap...
I absolutely loved this drama! I kinda understand why some people might not be as excited about it as me but this drama exploited all my guilty pleasures :D.
All actors were great I think they chemistry (be i romantic or just friendly) was awesome but Dong Ha as Jung Hyung Soo was exceptional. I totally need to check more of his dramas
So I was reading articles about this drama, and is it a slice of life....or like a crime/school drama.......?…
i think writers of missing 9 switched like.. halfway through drama but here it seems like writers were switched rather soon so they should at least have more space for their own ideas :D imo the first synopsis that was out there was just tentative outline and now it gets more concrete as the drama release date gets closer. it happens, i wont make any conclusions until i actually watch few episodes :D
So I was reading articles about this drama, and is it a slice of life....or like a crime/school drama.......?…
yeah, School 2015 had extreme second lead syndrome but it was still a nice watch, all of the main actors were good (but second lead did such good job which i guess even drama PD's werent expecting and thats why sls was so strong this time)
I think it is no use to speculate about the story for now and it would be better to wait 4 days until episode 1 :). I read somewhere about main female lead being in love with university student (i guess thats the reason why she desperately wants to get to Hanguk uni in teasers?) and thats why I (and others) thought Jung Hyun will be playing him. But he is wearing school uniform in all promos so i guess he is playing high-schooler.?.. its annoying, I personally dislike when actors who are playing high-schoolers are this much older especially when you consider that female leads are much younger. But whatever, I believe in this drama, it is kind of a brand thanks to its long history so i hope screenwriters spent a lot of effort on the story.

The 'School' series is traditionally a slice of life drama focused on life and hardships of students so i guess they will continue with the trend. However, in season 2015 they added a minor mystery element and this time it seems like main character will witness something bad so this time it could contain a minor crime elements. But overall i am still expecting a slice of life school drama

it was average but enjoyable
