Idk about ancient China, but the judges in the Salem witch trials and other witch trials took "spectral evidence" (the kids seeing the accused in dreams or supposed spirits like a bird only they could see around the accused) as proof, causing the accused to be executed. There was also at least one case in the past in which a murdered woman's mother claimed to have a dream of the girl's boyfriend/husband (I forget which) killing her, and that was considered enough "proof" to arrest him and look into the case, even though there was no other evidence against him. So it might be possible that was true of trials in other countries.

It's a thing in real life ("savior sibling"), and yeah, it's got a lot of ethical issues about it. There's even a movie about it from the POV of the savior sibling called "My Sister's Keeper".

Incredibly tragic. I really enjoyed watching her in The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim and Mirror of the Witch. It sounds like she struggled as so many child stars do, compounded with the cruelty of society's unwillingness to allow someone a second chance after they had already been punished which has cost far too many lives and continues to take more. I feel sorry for both her and her family, she was much too young. 😔
