He already knows how much his wife has been suffering in the hands of his sister, he promises her to make a stable life for her then the next thing as soon as he tries he gives up the moment someone criticizes his work a bit. The douche glorified his self too much, his dignity bullshit mattered to him more than his own wife. I feel so sorry for Dou Ming she deserves so much better than that piece of trash. Also, her mother is no better. Wei Ting Yu must have been the real child of Wang Ying Xue they deserve each other better. Horrible mother and Useless son. Poor Dou Ming.

I agree with your theory about princess shude possibly being the mastermind, her pushing for Song Mo and Dou Zhao fits perfectly towards their plan. Thought of her right after I saw the scene of the bad guys gathering. But, I also think it is possible it is the empress, because when Song Mo saw the fire and is telling her to relay the message to the king, she seems to try to keep him away from the capital and use the king sleeping/resting as an excuse. It also makes a more plausible explanation as she can easily manipulate the king and his mindset, even slowly poison to control him as she is very near the king.
