It's called the dark horse cdrama of the year by cnetz. It's very popular even in china. Why is it a dark horse? because nobody expected this at all from a drama that isn't high budget and both ML and FL starring in it aren't even s-tier actors/actress in china. Most of their projects were only supporting roles. The director of this drama is only known for producing short dramas this is his first full length drama. This drama rose to the top because of the good quality of storyline and you got a very talented leading actor and actress.

Song Mo literally learning Dou Zhao's genius ways. Him owning the whole theatre with the Ding Army disguised as the play actors and servants was so brilliant. This is another reason why I love this drama so much. Dou Zhao and Song Mo make such a smart couple combo. They are unstoppable.

This always happens when it comes to dramas that have bl elements, no offense some bl shippers can be quite toxic and would target the fl who has a love interest towards one of the ml in the bl they ship. The logic in hating on the actress is definitely unfair, especially for the actress who isn't even at fault here given she was just doing her job. Also, censorship in china is strongly implemented, even without a FL character the BL would remain platonic as it's a country unlike Thailand. But, putting all these aside, I am so proud of Meng Zi Yi. She is gaining recognition and lead roles. I only knew her from her past works in well-known dramas as a supporting character. No hate to the BL fans though but hope they could stop hating on FL characters and worst actresses too, just direct their hate on chinas censorship instead.
