This film, with its layers, complications, and shades of gray, is far over your head. Stick to Disney.
You knew I was a gay white man because I make no effort to hide what I am on my profile, unlike you. Yeah, sure you're a Black woman. lol I'm a tree frog.

You expected me to "respond to" your last screed? Not hardly. Like that vicious, brain-diarrhea deserves a response? Was that you "responding to " me and seeking further engagement? hahaha

oooh...I'm a "misogynist," I'm a "sexist," I'm an "identity weaponizer," oh boo hoo hoo. How shall I live? And you are the most unoriginal writer I've read here in some time. SJW this, SJW that, blah blah blah. It's all so tired. Get some thoughts of your own.

"Blamed and hated the queen..." omg, lol Did I blame and hate the Chief too? Or do you only accuse me of that regarding the Queen to shore up the "misogynist" angle? :D

It is really something how free you feel to make bigoted assumptions and statements and call names in service to the idea that I am the bigot. I hear there's a sale on self-awareness at the SJW store. Get some.

Yeah, it’s really disturbing to hear about. It’s important to wait for the full facts and let the legal process…
Why would she be attacked?

Ohhh...you think alleged victims of sexual crimes should be ashamed...I see.
Well, I don't feel that way. Why should she hide her identity otherwise? No reason I can think of.

Well, I do suppose she wants to hide her identity so that if and when it's proven that she's lying, she won't have to be responsible for her false accusation...nah, that couldn't be it.

For other commenters who may want to read what the crazy person above left behind a spoiler button so as to conceal the extent of their bat-shit crazy, foul-mouthed ravings from all but the most curious, here's the full text:

///

Oh baby, I’m not even about to waste energy arguing with you. You’ve already proven you’re not just wrong, you’re loud and confidently fing stupid. You are an uneducated dumbass, a moronic fing clown. Nothing you’re saying makes sense, and you clearly don’t have the range to keep up.
Let’s get something straight. You threw out “homophobic” like that was gonna land. If I were homophobic, I wouldn’t have watched a fing LGBTQ movie in the first place, let alone engage with it on a level your peanut brain can’t even process. I never once blamed the king for being gay. Not once. So miss me with that bulls.
You’re the one infantilizing the king. Just because he’s gay doesn’t mean he’s above critique. You’re out here putting his queerness above his actions, acting like his sexuality makes him a victim in a story where he quite literally orchestrated everyone’s downfall. That’s not defending LGBTQ stories. That’s being a f***ing bootlicker for fictional abuse.
And since we’re here, let’s talk about how you brought up my race, my gender, and my age–all while being dead wrong. You’re not just ignorant, you’re a racist piece of s***. And no, I’m not insinuating it. I’m telling you directly. You’re a f***ing racist.
Also, you want to gatekeep BL discourse? Bitch, I watch BL. I’ve watched more BL than your dumbass could spell. And I still think your takes are trash. You’re the exact type of dumb b**** that ruins BL discourse. You’re the reason the genre is flooded with non-consensual, abusive, power-imbalanced garbage and everyone claps like it’s high art.
But when someone like me points that s*** out, suddenly I’m homophobic? F*** you. You don’t get to silence people with fake allyship. You’re not protecting queer people. You’re just loud and f***ing stupid.
You keep repeating “nuance” like it makes you sound smart. But all you’re doing is fing crying over gay romance like that was ever the fing point. The movie isn’t about love. It’s about power, trauma, manipulation, control. You wouldn’t know nuance if it slapped the taste out your dumbass mouth.
And honestly? It’s obvious this stopped being about the movie for you a long time ago. You’re not talking themes or characters. You’re just f***ing obsessed. Digging up old-ass comments like some pressed fangirl with a grudge. That’s not critique. That’s being deranged. You’re mentally circling this film like it owes you child support.
Also, if half the comments are saying the king was a fing villain, maybe–just maybe– he actually was. Maybe everyone isn’t homophobic. Maybe you’re just fing wrong.
So yeah, this is the last time I’m replying to you, you dumb fing b*. I came here to analyze a film. You came here to project, spiral, and bark like a pressed dog on the internet.
Don’t ever bring your crusty-ass, cheeto-fingered, intellectually bankrupt bulls*** back to my comments again.

oooh...someone's a triggered little, foul-mouthed...person.

I love when my zingers land square on the nose and bring a hysterical little girl like you out into the light where she/it/they shows her/its/their blood-dripping, bigoted fangs.

I love it even more when the accurate assessment of a deluded SJW, full of twisted prejudices and flawed assumptions, as a HOMOPHOBE makes that same little girl absolutely lose her/its/their mind as you just did. That always happens when a sensitive place of self-doubt is touched.

Thanks for enlightening me to the fact that I am a gay man who is a "fake ally" to himself. Got it. lol

Oh, and I'll be bringing my crusty ass back to every comment of yours I come across...girl. See ya! :D

Title A Frozen Flower Spoiler
This film, with its layers, complications, and shades of gray, is far over your head. Stick to Disney.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mock this: "The moral of the story is clear: The inevitability of fate." Consider it now mocked. No wonder you declare the Chief and Queen devoid of agency; they and we are nothing but toys in the hands of fate, not in the least responsible for our own choices. Well, except if you're the King, that is. Then, you're a bad, homo King.

This latest crock of BS is based mostly on your high opinion of your own narrow thinking. I can't, and don't want to, help you with that. I imagine I'm not the first person to think that of you.

You're focused on presenting the queen and the chief as VICTIMS, all-caps, with no agency of their own. Much of your other verbiage betrays you as living in that alternate universe where there's always ONE bad man who does bad things, and where no one else has free thought or will. As I've said, your black/white alternate universe doesn't exist.

Don't talk to me about "complexity," until you acknowledge all the gray areas in the behaviors of all three of these characters.

I mentioned several ways in which the King was at fault, yet you're still claiming I'm all about "defending the king's ego" so as to prop up your BS reasoning, the result of which is that the homo King is bad, the Chief and the Queen are helpless and blameless victims, and there is no gray between those two extremes. This is not surprising, because as much as you love to write and write and write, there isn't much thought among all those words.

"Oh, the King MADE the Chief love him and stick his tongue down his throat," "oh the King MADE the Queen go to the library and deliberately seduce the Chief TWICE after he had turned to walk away," "Oh, no one but the King has any control over their own actions, it's all the big, bad, homo King's fault."

"where power imbalance is romanticized and everyone claps like seals for trauma dressed as love..." lol You have all the SJW phrases down pat, don't you, but they're as full of empty air coming from you as from anyone else.

"The guard died in front of him not because of love but because he was still trapped in the psychological grip the king held over him. He was loyal to the end because he didn’t know how to be anything else."

The Chief didn't just die in front of the King, he turned his head with his dying breaths to look at the man he loved, the man he chose to love with his own heart and his own tongue and well, with other things too.

Yeah, as I look back over your latest screed, this is the last straw. People like you manipulate the concepts of "trauma," "power imbalances," blah blah blah to relieve others of their humanity, as though they are empty vessels, incapable of independent thought or emotion because someone with power over them asserted it, as if that zombifies them instantly. What you don't get, or don't care about, is that this thought process infantilizes people, as you have infantalized the queen and the chief in your rantings. Again, to you they are not people, they are primarily and more than anything else, VICTIMS. History is FULL of people who rose above their circumstances, who thought and loved for themselves despite others having power over them.

Guess what, other people victimized the king in his youth too, so he is absolved of his behavior as well. Oh well, then..

Finally, STFU with your snide, ignorant comments about BL and what you imagine to be my preferences within that genre. Not only do they reveal a nascent homophobic streak, as do several other choice phrases from your comments above; they make it clear you have no idea what you're talking about. The last sort of BL I enjoy are the "fluffy."

I have yet to frantically peruse your profile as you clearly did mine, nor do I intend to, but I'm thinking you're a Western white girl in her 20s, probably attending an all-women's college in the U.S. or its equivalent in Europe; existing in a silly, privileged, black/white, cliche universe all its own. If not, even if you're a Black dude in Indonesia, you might as well be. You show all the tell-tale signs and use all the give-away buzz words in expressing your "thinking."

Perhaps watch some Lesbian films and leave the gay stuff to us "homosexuals" who know what we're talking about.

"Take several seats." Girl...did you make that one up on your own?

BL and gay-themed cinema are different genres. I can maintain a hold on that concept, even if you can't.

Please quote where I said the film is not "up for interpretation." Thanks, I'll wait. It's just that YOUR particular interpretation lacks nuance, to put it gently. To your simple mind, "it's all the homo King's fault!" is deep exegesis. It's not. It's facile and lazy.

Did it escape your black/white eyesight that during the King/Chief sex/love scene, the Chief's tongue was as eagerly and as far down the King's throat as vice-versa? Forced? ummm...no. Did it escape your notice that as he lay dying, the Chief's last act was to force his head around so that his last, dying view was of his first beloved's face?

Did it escape your notice that at that point, he loved the Queen (or thought he did; there was not enough time for them or us to find out) AND the King?

There is much with which I agree in your longer post above. I just don't agree with your conclusion that the tragedy was all the fault of the king's. Let me try to help:

The King foolishly and insensitively put the Chief and the Queen in a very dangerous position, so to speak.
The Chief, riled up by his enounters with this new form of genitalia (he's bi), and the Queen, riled up by suddenly experiencing sex for the first time, mistook their genitalia-based infatuation for l-o-v-e and began, with the hearty cooperation of the Queen, lying to and betraying the King.
The King caught on, the Chief apologized, the King forgave him, then the Chief started lying and betraying the King all over again.
The queen, keen to use her vagina as leverage over the Chief, begged him to run away with her and when he refused, threw her throbbing lady-parts at him in the library. The king caught them, lost his mind, and we know what happened next.
The King, insanely, as the Chief lay recovering from having his nuts (or maybe his dick too?) cut off, offered the Chief all he had if he would come back to him. The Chief, understandably, refused.

I will make this as simple and facile as possible for you:
The King betrayed the other two with callous disregard for their feelings, and the other two betrayed the King with lies, emotional infidelity, and more lies. No black OR white here, only grays.

It could be argued that, paraphrasing your words, the fault is that awful, homo king's alone, because he set all the tragedy to follow in motion with his first act of ordering the queen/chief to copulate against their will. Had he not done so, none of the rest would have happened.

But then, the chain of events could have been broken more than once, had the Chief stopped lying or the Queen stopped waving her vagina around.

I know, I know...that's a lot of grays, and you only do black and white.
Your loss.

In a universe of infinite grays, a lonely voice shrieks, "No, really, gray is not a thing. Black is black and white is white and the homo King is to blame for it all!"

Stick to Disney...girl.

"I'm not going to be baited by your theatrics," says the person who was just baited by my "theatrics." lol

"...her (alleged) pain..." ...at being "inappropriately touched." I'm sure this person is in desperate agony at being "inappropriately touched." lol
In a sane world, free of ME TOO! hysterics/fanatics, she would have responded to being "inappropriately touched" (which he has denied in court and plead not guilty to) by slapping him across the face and throwing a drink to follow, and that would have been the end of it. And if he then escalated the situation, we might have something to talk about.

But oh no, we must run to the cops and alert the press because it's an idol, and not at all in the hopes of suing him for big bucks later Had she been groped by some average Joe, she would have punched him, kicked him in the nuts, and walked away.

I repeat, WHO IS SHE? We know who KK is, why does she get to remain anonymous? Don't you want women to fearlessly stand up for themselves and proudly make accusations when warranted? What's the shame? YOU are the shamer here. I'd grant this person some credibility if she had the ovaries to identify herself, rather than hiding behind a cloak of MeToo anonymity. You see women as helpless victims, not people.

BTW, stop putting words in my mouth and then arguing against them. I repeat, I had no idea who KK was before his BL and didn't give him another thought afterwards until this bogus accusation and KK's subsequent pre-trial crucifixion came to pass. Quit attempting to dismiss sane, non-hysterics by claiming they're fanboys/girls when they're not.

Try not to be "baited by my theatrics" again. BTW again...you're pretty damn theatrical yourself.

It's clear you are deliberately being a jerk about this, but I'll try anyway: Yes, it is a 2008 movie, but there will always be people coming to this page before they watch it for the first time. This is true for thousands of older films and series. People discover and watch them for the first time five, ten, 20 years later.

You think you're clever, but you're not. Put your spoilers behind a spoiler button.

I feel bad for these Asian actors, who have to struggle to answer interview questions without saying much out of fear of being canceled by Knetz, should they say an interesting word, that will promptly be misinterpreted. Their phrasing and word choices, carefully vetted by their agency, come off as childish and often, a bit dim-witted.

Love So Ji Sub though, and glad to see him back in another show.
On A Frozen Flower Jun 13, 2025
Just finished my fifth watch of this film. It gets better, deeper, richer with every viewing.

Commenters here making black/white pronouncements about the characters, motivations, actions, and most of all, about who is most to "blame," are too modern-minded to appreciate this movie, which is about as close as it comes to being a "masterpiece" (a word tossed around like confetti here on MDL) as it gets.

In truth, I think I watched several scenes through more fingers, and wept more this time than I did during my first viewing, and that's saying a lot because the first time I kept falling out of my chair. There is no more gasp-inducing, dramatic scene in cinema than the penultimate one in the library about 3/4 way in. My god.

There is no such thing as "a gay."

Did you think the Chief looked "helpless" in those early make-out scenes with the King? Ever hear of bisexuality, or the fluidity of the sexual continuum?

This flick is far too layered and complicated for your uncomplicated mind.
