When did "the show" call a news conference and make all these fantastical "promises" you refer to? I missed that.

No, I don't, not EVER, like to "turn my brain off" when watching a drama or series. I prefer the shows I spend my valuable time watching, even comedies and light romances, to MAKE SENSE and be well-written and well-directed..

Lots of the blunders I've delineated in my comments are the result of sloppy, lazy writing and direction, which the director couldn't be bothered to fix. And almost all of them were fixable. His/her choice NOT to do so before releasing the show is a direct insult to the audience. "Here you go, here's a show for you to watch, but whatever. I could have tried harder, done better, but I don't give enough of a f*ck to present you with my best work." And you say, "OK, thanks! I don't have standards, and my brain is turned off, anyway, so it's all good!"

And as a result, we get more and more BL slop, rather than quality efforts, because the producers have no incentive to do their best possible work. Why should they? You'll squeal, giggle, and kick your little feet in fujoshi delight, regardless of what you see in front of you.

I've dropped a zillion shows, child, and you and your fangirl comrades aren't owed a standards-free comment section in which everyone agrees with YOU. People are free to post their negative perceptions as they please on MDL...at least, so far. Got that?

I made it clear early on that I thought the show had promise until somewhere in the third episode, at which time its quality began to decline. Perhaps you read that, but had your brain turned off, and thus don't recall. I had every reason to hope that decline might reverse itself. Just because it hasn't done so is not enough reason yet for me to check out.

To simplify, in case your brain is in the "off" position as you read this: The pain of watching this increasingly sloppy mess does not yet outweigh my desire to see what becomes of Hioki, who I find adorbs. Got it?

In truth, I'm up to here with people who come flying into comments, insisting that "this, this, and then this, are all going to happen because that's what happens in some Manga or novel, as if live-action adaptations aren't almost always significantly changed in the conversion process, whether for brevity, or just because a director wants to do so.

Here, you clearly rate "hugs and eyes" as potentially more intense than "a kiss," which puts kissing in second place. Also, I'm not clear on how putting one's mouth on another person's mouth, moving one's lips in coordination with the other party's lips, and potentially tangling tongues and swapping spit can be LESS "intimate" than hugging someone or using eye signals. This is why touching, hugging, eye-staring, etc. always LEAD UP TO the kiss. The kiss is the ultimate deal.

I find it interesting/amusing that sex-phobic fujoshis love to giggle and gush over BLs that lack kisses, as I so often see here. It's revealing. They, and perhaps you, in their hearts of hearts, find kissing between two guys to be icky.

It doesn't matter what Morisake's brother said, if that's what he said, because Sake is never served in that huge an amount, never in a tall glass 2/3 full, never with ice, and never with lemon. Thus, it was either a goof in the writing or the props. Consider applying your knowledge of the Japanese language to the culture, as well.

Nor does one get vomit-drunk from half a sip of booze, no matter what kind. More bad writing.

Could you point me to where it was indicated that the drink was sake?
He drank it from a tall cocktail glass with ice and a lemon slice.
Sake is almost always served warm from small, ceramic cups.
In the rare instances when it is served cold, it's in a wine glass, and NO ice.

You know nothing about SAKE, do you? lol

He got half a sip, max. Bad writing, bad directing.

Starts strong, then becomes increasingly lame with each succeeding episode.
If you like well-written BLs with plots that make sense, and in which young men act like actual young men, you won't like this at all.

He drank half a sip, if that.

At least that might make it interesting.
