Well, he ACTS like a 13-year-old even though his character is 18, which is an adult even though he's amazingly immature. I don't get writing an age gap story but not using the age gap to provide angst or drama. It was just kind of...there for no reason.
The Student showed some acting talent at times, but I think the director here was super-weak so he didn't receive the guidance he needed. The character's youth was WAY overplayed. It would have been more interesting if the 18-year-old was more mature than the Teacher and came onto him aggressively, despite their small age gap and their status as Student/Teacher. I've known lots of very mature 18-year-olds and lots of very immature 23-year-olds. I was one of the latter.

They finally kind of got to me in the last episode. I welled up at least three times, and the acting improved immensely, especially from the student. Then, they proceeded to wrap things up with wildly implausible/improbable/impossible occurrences like below-average artists becoming famous and having gallery shows with cheesy amateur paintings. lol
There's a nice idea at the core of this story but it was written, directed, and acted at a sub-par level. The potential for great drama regarding the teacher/student relationship was not utilized at all. I have no problem with the slight age gap, but if they had been exposed and had to face a crisis like that together, it could have been gripping. I mean, why write an power gap into the story if you don't then make something of it?
The Student was written as such an immature brat that the Teacher's feelings for him were not believable. I could believe Teacher finding Student hot and banging him, but to enter a long-term thing with such a child?...No.
He could have, and should have, concluded he should go on to the NY gig for at least a year, during which the Student could do some maturing, and if they were still in love and hot for each other, he could always come back.
This is the type of BL I would never share with my non-BL friends, even though I found enough in it to keep me watching all the way through. They would think I was crazy. Well, I am, but no need for them to know... :D

Lots of repulsive and disgusting behaviors over and over and over again...I don't mind repulsive and disgusting plot elements in a film, but here the actions are presented in a dull, monotonous way such that when I was meant to be repulsed and disgusted I was simply bored.
Moreover, every Korean character here seems intellectually challenged, even the characters who are not so. It's as though this is a small town populated entirely by high-functioning, brain-damaged people. Add to that some bad acting and you have a problem. Even the animal violence failed to move me because it was played in such a boring manner.
Speaking of bad acting, why are the Caucasian characters in Asian films nearly always played by terrible actors? I've seen better acting in gay porn. Maybe this was done on a limited budget, so an ad was placed in Seoul and this is who showed up?

My problem is not with the useful information that was shared through the doctor's dialogue. My problem is that the writers had the character of the doctor give private information about the main character's medical condition to two non-family members, blabbing to whoever happened to be in the hallway what was going on with the MC. Extremely unprofessional and unethical. That information should have been shared to the parents only, and behind closed doors of the doctor's office.
So when he began to go on his speech out in the hallway it made me laugh at how unrealistic and preachy/silly it all was. I hope you get my point.

If I wrote the show, I would have the doctor take the parents into his office and then discuss the details of PREP and all the rest behind a closed door in private, like at real doctor would and should do.

Yes, that's almost exactly how I felt while watching the situation with the dad after what went before at the end. It was more a feeling of "...this is very odd." this is poor writing, than anything else. I seem to recall the acting was pretty good.
I just checked above to see how I rated this when I watched it. I gave it a 7.5/10. I'm guessing I down-rated it because of the strange ending. 7.5/10 is not a bad rating to me so obviously I didn't hate it. But the ending was a flop. :)
Fifth watch, and each time I find more details in the story, identify with the characters more strongly, and spend the whole film with my heart in my throat, in a good way.
Oh my gosh, I haven't the words to say how dearly I love this film, or how much I appreciate the work of the two leads. Sensational. These two characters live in my heart.
Night Flight remains always and perhaps forever at the top of my best gay-themed Asian films list.

Yeah, I agree with most of all that. The couple certainly made that choice...and I would not have done the same. But again...lots of people make choices I don't like or agree with, which doesn't mean people like that shouldn't be in live-action fictional dramas.

It's the director's job to ask the actor to dial back on the his efforts to make his character seem "young," as I'd guess he's been asked to do. The high school guy is cute but what we see of his personality are mostly public displays of affection that could get the teacher in trouble, a whiny neediness, and tantrum-throwing. I don't see anything in this character that the teacher as he is presented, would be attracted to. He can't have adult conversations with him, or confide in him and ask for advice, receive comfort in his struggles, etc.. No time for any of that when he is constantly reacting to the latest bit of acting out from the student. :D

I have not read the Manwha but it seems strange in the extreme to take a gay-themed, written source, strip it of its gay main relationships, and turn it into a straight story. I mean, there are loads of straight material out there to be adapted, right? Why go to all the trouble of rewriting a gay plot?
Also, it seems the author would be horrified to see their work bastardized. On the other hand, it's likely they sold the Manwha, releasing the adapters to do as they pleased with it. I suppose I'd do the same unless I were established, well-known, and didn't need money. :P
I was planning on watching this sports BL since I play tennis but then everyone seems to hate it so maybe not.
