Little slice of life, I guess, but there's no...anything, really. We watch the waiter act out his jealousy over a drunk girl, the clueless boss act clueless, another look of jealousy, then...it's over. LOTS of Matchbox/Strongberry shorts better than this one.
I'm out at 38 minutes. The police investigation and scripting were becoming increasingly silly, as though written by an amateur. I was bored and didn't care who killed whom.
Because the movie is terrible. The book is a different thing than the movie.
Well, who knows? Maybe you'll love it. :D But people below who have read the book, disliked it and I, who have not read the book, think it's terrible, so...uh, yeah. :)
Cinematically, it is a beautiful film and the acting is good for the most part, but what the actors are made to portray is so off-base and incoherent that their performances can't make up for the script.
Let me know what you think of it when you're done.
Does anyone know of a DomeVee cut of this series? I've seen some 3 or 4-minute cuts on Youtube but nothing that tells their story comprehensively and only. Their romancer, angst, chemistry, heat and acting are the only reason to watch this thing. The main couple is a snooze-fest, chemistry-free, bad-acting disaster.
Because the movie is terrible. The book is a different thing than the movie.
Judging from what commenters below who have read the book have said, you either should choose not to watch the film, or go into doing so fully aware that very little about the characters or the plot match what's in the book, and what does match is poorly drawn.
As I said, I did not read the book, so I'm passing judgement on the film for itself alone. It's really bad. lol

I'm sure, or I assume, that you know the differences between a novel and a movie.
Also, you said the book "is quite famous," not that it's well-written. Is it? I don't know; I haven't read the book. Lots of "famous" books have been made into movies that differ greatly from their source material, and many great books have been made into terrible movies. Like this one.
For those who think Watanabe is just a stupid horny guy having sex with a bunch of girls... First of all you need…
That's the longest apology for a terrible movie I have ever read. You are writing about motivations and feelings that are not on the screen. I love Reiko dropping in to schtup Watanabe as a "rite of passage," deeply meaningful in some way. What way? Reiko said she "thinks they should do it." Watanabe says "are you serious?" and seems to be objecting but of course he goes along with it because he has no spine and not many brains. Throughout the movie, over and over, he does whatever people tell him to do, especially very strange, unbalanced young women with boundary issues.
And then of course, it is never indicated how fucking made anything better for anyone But according to Reiko, Watanabe gave her "what I lost seven years ago." What? Her hymen? In that case, instead of going to the psych facility with no doctors or therapists she should have just fucked some random dude and been made all better way back then.
1- why is she always whispering2- why do they walk aggressively all the time3- the wind???
Because the director told them to do so in both cases. He thinks it's cool and he's showing off. The wind is to indicate passions and wildness absent from the acting/direction.
6.5/10
Dropped. 1/10
