I have a question about the flower painting that Zhou Zishu is coloring red in the first episode and its relation to another painting in a later episode. I'll put it in spoiler below.
No. I just want to know if it's overtly BL like "Word of Honor", or mildly BL and can be interpreted as bormance like "The Untamed", or strictly bromance and no chance to be interpreted as BL.
Just got into this and am at ep 7....does anyone else find Cheng Ling really excruciatingly annoying?!!!! I want…
I think they've purposely design the character that way, so that he can grown into a more mature and competent character later on, and show the contrast.
I read an article about Zhang Zhehan's acting and how he's able to transform himself from manly characters in "Yun Xi" and "Ruyi" and the earlier episodes of WOH into a softer character in later episodes. I've tried Googling it, but couldn't find it. Anyone knows the article and can provide the link? Thanks.
The story plot flow in WOH more smoothly than the untamed and the chemistry duo between zhang zhi han ang simon…
christinatina - I agree with what you say that everybody in WOH has their own story.
Which ties in with waterlan's comment about WOH is WKX's revenge story. On the surface, yes, maybe WOH is a revenge story, but it's the elements of the story that makes WOH so good. There are so many forces at play that viewers are kept guessing at what each character will do next and how the story will unfold.

andrewpck - I agree that the chemistry between the two leads in both TU and WOH are excellent. All four actors fit into their respective roles perfectly.
I think the best part of TU is precisely the chemistry between the two leads. But unfortunately they are not supported by other aspects of the drama, which are not as well-executed as this chemistry (I've mentioned fight scenes and plot and other aspects).
I'm often drawn to quiet and introverted characters, so I like Lan Zhan better than Wei Wuxian. I admire how Wang Yibo is able to express feelings through his eyes, especially in the second half of the drama. He also exudes elegance that is Lan Wangji.
Zhou Zishu is a more complex character than Lan Wangji because of his troubled past, so it demands more from the actor. I think Zhang Zhehan portrays this complexity well.
It is a similar situation with Wei Wuxian (Xiao Zhan) and Wen Kexing (Gong Jun). They both acted well, but the character of Wen Kexing is more complex and demands more from the actor.

I briefly stopped watching TU at episode 17 to watch another drama. The fighting scenes were so bad that I couldn't stand it. I guess when I finished that other drama and returned to TU, my annoyance level had gone down and I was able to continue, and Wei Wu Xian going rogue at around episode 20 added more spice to the story.
What are you watching as you wait for subs? Please recommend something that at least has the same feel as WOH.…
"The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty". Good costume detective drama. No romance (BG nor BL).
"The Longest Day of Chang'an" has a slight hetero-romance, but it's not the main focus by far. It focuses on the investigation and the team work between the male leads.
"Handsome Siblings" focuses on the relationship between two, er, siblings, but it does have some BG romance.
"Ever Night" only has BG romance after episode 30, so you can enjoy the story about the ML prior to that.
WOH has better fight scenes, better acting, better dialog (all that poetry references from Wen Kexing), better plot, better pacing. I was interested in the story from the start, while I only got into TU after episode 20.
This is, of course, only my opinion and my experience. Different people like different things, and nobody is wrong or right. It's just a matter of preference.
I was interested in this one because I love three other e-sports dramas that I've seen (The King's Avatar, Cross Fire, Go Go Squid). But when I watched episode 1 of "Genk Your Heart" yesterday, I was disappointed because we don't see any details of the game play itself. We don't see how they strategize or work together as a team. Does this kind of nonexistent game play continue in the rest of the drama?
Edit: I found the article! https://sipoftea.net/2021/03/14/word-of-honors-zhou-zishu-zhang-zhehan-and-a-perspective-on-gender-perception/
