I almost dropped this drama a few times. It only got more interesting after episode 20, which is almost halfway through the drama. The number one cdrama in this genre is and always will be Eternal Love for me, as they set the bar really high!
Shang Gu was so annoying on the first half of the story, smiling meaninglessly all the time, as if everything's a joke and that her purpose in life is to stick to Bai Jue. Bai Jue is no better, being so polite with his love and affection that made me yell at my screen numerous times just for holding back and not telling Shang Gu about different things. The Chemistry is weak and I would've preferred a girl with a more significant appearance and height as the main lead, justlike my beloved Yang Mi in Eternal Love.
Poor Yue Mi gets almost zero screen time with Tian Qi to develop their characters and affection. The other couples were quite interesting. I found Chang Qin really annoying. She turned Sen Yu down a zillion times, surely she could've accepted his proposal after he waited for >500 years for her.
The last 15 episodes saved the story, although they dragged the story so much, they coud've definitely finished it in 30 episodes. Overall it's not worth re-watching, but hang in there if you've started watching it for the first time :D
I miss Yuemi!! Why??? Did they have to kill her off, like seriously???
Exactly! She was the only character that didn't get reincarnated! Maybe that's just an opportunity for a sequel focusing on Tian Qi and Yue Mi (squeal!) I would be so invested if they created it! Lol.
Ooh i've got mixed feelings about this drama, just like most people. This drama started with a few very promising episodes. It reminded me of some of the supernatural-hunting animes like Inuyasha, Mononoke and many more that I don't remember the names, so I was excited about an adventure through the world of monsters with this couple who're fighting for humans, so they don't get eaten by these evil creatures, so an action drama with a tad bit of romance to strengthen the plot. That didn't continue. We got a mediocre reincarnation of Imugi, Ji Ah's strong-willed character fading away and less and less cool action in the drama.
Then we also have poor Lee Rang who I've bawled for what happened to him in his happiest moments, it was just unfair and I agree that there were much better alternatives as the ending rather than him sacrificing himself for his older brother. The holes in the ending plot don't help with my overall impression of the drama, either.
To sum it up, a very promising drama turned into a mediocre one. I would definitely recommend watching the drama even if it's to watch the precious eye-candies,Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum. Is it worth the re-watch? Not at all.
Why isn't there a season 2 for this??! This drama has such a huge potential for the second season. We really need to see Wul Ryong and Seo Hwa reincarnated and get more of a story as well. As mentioned in amrita828's review, daddy gumiho is really charming, as well and he knows how to get things done, compared to his son :D
Tbh, this drama reminds me so much of Naruto. Kang Chi's character has the same optimistic, persistent features as Naruto. He has heaps of potential and strength which he learns about during different challenges and he uses uncommon ways to overcome extremely difficult challenges which you might think there's no way out of it. He's so charismatic and his love for Yeo Wool feels realistic.
On the other hand, Yeo Wool's character is weak, childish and her feelings for Kang Chi don't indicate a mature and grand love, it's shallow. I really didn't like how Suzy depicted her. How can so many charming young men like her?!! I was so jealous of her having all three hot guys in the drama to herself, I was getting a second And third-lead syndrome!
Overall, this is a great drama that you should not miss at all. There are so many great scenes that you don't see much of in the newer Kdramas, so it feels great to have a Kdrama with different story development.
Beautiful series, an unsatisfactory ending. There was a sudden shift from a more exciting "Heroine against the big bad guys of the country"to just plain "whodunnit murder mystery". I might've preferred it if the whole part revealing the story behind the murder would've been removed and we would focus on how she's trying to promote justice in the country in other ways than just joining the Blue house. I agree that many characters and parts of the story had so much potential for more episodes to be dedicated to them.
One thing that was strange to me and I couldn't relate to, was Hye Ran's sudden 180 degree change from a cold, indifferent wife to a woman in love who wants to protect her husband with everything she's got. I couldn't relate to her love for Tae Wook. Her over-confidence and her, bluffing her way through everything also pissed me off, at times. You can't possibly have the mindset of "Never lose". It's the same type of toxic mindset that Tae Wook had about him being able to prove Go Hye Ran innocent even with eliminating important evidences, etc. In general you could watch how a mix of over-confidence and insecurities would ruin a person and his/ her most important relationships.
I still feel so bad for Ha Myeong Woo and believe that Eun Joo reaped what she's sowed. Overall a great series with a weak ending.
Loved everything from the story to each character's development. It's one of the few Kdramas with such intimate scenes/ use of cuss words and openness about many topics. The only issue I had was the chemistry. It wasn't enough and the intimacy couldn't compensate for that lack of chemistry.
I did not watch 10 Miles of Peach Blossoms, & therefore do not have a frame of reference for comparisons; but…
I think the only thing which I can complain about the ending is that I liked Lan Zhan and Wei Ying to continue traveling around the world together to fight the villains of the world. I didn't like them parting ways,in the end. I do agree with WandXian's comment on Lan Zhan calling out Wie Ying's name so lovingly and how adorable it was. I just need confirmation that they stayed together, I don't like to imagine it myself with an open ending :)
This Cdrama has raised the bar so high, I don't think I'll get to watch anything as good as this drama for a while. What I've found, especially with Chinese dramas to be lacking most of the times is a good stroy. This drama had such an interesting story and such nice character development that I was reluctant to finish it, just because I loved it so much!
I really think the ending could've been different but we'll see how different it is when I finish reading the manga :D I believe that although many parts of the story were censored, you could still feel the chemistry 100% and it was so sweet that it melted my heart. My favourite character was Wen Ning for some reason and I can tell you, I cried RIVERS for Wen Ning through the story. I felt so bad for him and his sister, I though they were the most hard working but unfortunate characters who could've at least got a lover or someone to care for them and remember them in the end.
Overall it's a great drama and my favourite Cdrama after 10 Miles of Peach Blossoms and Three Lives, Three Books, The Pillow Book.
Literally it is the actors who carry the drama to the end, because the story could be told in 16-20 episodes.…
Totally agreed! the last plot twist was completely unnecessary. Overall it was a good drama, but the break-up/ reunion cycle does get to repeat itself in the same style.
Just like what @Minarii Loves Fan Xian wrote about this drama. It was perfect if it ended in episode 14. The rest was meaningless, unnecessary cliche. The message behind the whole story was conveyed and the story was perfectly done until episode 14. The stories behind each artist and what you would learn from them was wonderful. It's an open-minded drama talking about topics which are usually not touched in other dramas. It's a mature drama in a very positive way. The characters are understanding and friendly and there's no excess drama just to spice things up. I was thinking some of the romantic scenes are even more innocent/ cute/ hot just because it's simpler without any twisted reactions which require the other person to read between the lines to actually understand what that person's feelings really are, if it makes sense. Overall, I enjoyed this drama. I didn't realy feel the 1 hour for each episode pass by until episode 14. After that, I was checking the time bar every few minutes, as it wasn't as interesting as before.
You basically stole my words haha! This is my fourth rewatch and i'm re-realizing what gem this drama was! There…
I still haven't found anything in the "slice of life"genre or whatever you call it to give me the same vibes, so relatable, funny, touching and the OST to kill for.
I feel like I increase the my rating for this drama every single time I rewatch it lol (there's nowhere more to…
It's so relatable, I find myself laughing and crying with the characters everytime I watch it. The dialogues stay with me,too, like when Oh Hae Young was staying over at her friend's and she asked Oh Hae Young why she fell in love with Park Do Kyung and she said I keep telling him things which I don't even tell my closest friends, and her friend confirmed that that's how a relationship between a man and a woman is, anything can happen between them.
I love this drama so much, even though it took me some time to finish. Yoo Jin was my favorite character! probably…
Well said! I couldn't agree more. I started this drama as a popular series with mixed reviews and Ji Chang Wook and Im Yoon ha as main characters. It was getting so draggy and boring until I reached episode 10. Everything changed after I learned more of Choi Yoo Jin. I was really empathetic of Yoo Jin, I hated her first, then empathised with her. I couldn't see any other character afterwards. She is a very complicated and hard to predict character which is what makes her so appealing. What she had with K2 was love, at first but when he rejected her, she had something more valuable than simply love for him. She respected him, because he was almost the only genuine person around her. K2 gave her his lifeline, as she said herself, so in return she gave him her own lifeline which was the Mirror. She trusted him with all her might, even if he did something disadvantaging for her, she didn't care. I haven't seen someone portaray a character like that for a long time, so I'm gonna reminisce all of her beautiful moments with K2 for a while. The series went from a simply, very boring romance to a story focused on an injured soul called Choi Yoo Jin and her acts of kindness as well as her cunning, smart side. This was one of the best series I've watched in a while.
I have a love-hate relationship with this drama. The romance is of a mature type, with the two sides trying to deeply understand each other, which is very rare in K-dramas. The simplicity of the dialogues and their acting gives off a good old vibe which you can't find in the new dramas, but it also gets boring and predictable after a few episodes. I always have this problem with Lee Min Ho's actings, he seems to act really well but you could feel that he actually means what he says and how he acts, it seems a bit fake to me. i gave it an 8 .
