This is really cool! It's always fun to see whats what in dramas. Thanks for the article! I do want to point out that sometimes what we call historical dramas actually better falls under the umbrella term of costume dramas. Not all of the costume dramas actually look at any history in China.
edit: its just so nice to see so many good titles on this list ^_^ i'm gonna have to check some of these out. there's some on my ptw list and i really should just hurry up and get to them!
Super interesting article!!! From the linked scene alone, it seems badass instead of comedy, but I think I'd have to watch the show to really make a strong guess.
I'm glad you touched on men crossdressing as well! It's rare compared to women. I've only watched a few like Nobleman Ryu's Wedding, Ma Boy, or Joseon Beauty Pageant. Most of them are not very well done imho, but I'm def gonna make The Tale of Nokdu a higher priority to watch! ^_^
What a great article. It's nice to see some love on one of my favorite tropes in dramaland ^_^
so quick question, how does intersex work? cuz I think you're missing one very important and relatively common factor into there are MORE than two sexes, which you seem to be using interchangeable with the word gender. Intersex is a scientific fact.
Listen bruh, if you want to believe in Jesus and all that, totally fine. But don't use science with inaccurate information and pretend it supports your prerogative. Do the research before you claim it.
Great article. Edit to add: Shiro, this is such a great way to open up discussions about content. You can love something that has problems, and this article does a really good job of making it safe to criticize the content we enjoy! Thanks for helping open up this discussion.
I've been in spaces where people really valued consent and it was seriously amazing for me. And it's so easy to respect people in this way! Sometimes we're so used to consent not mattering, that we think fighting for ourselves is normal, or giving in to people is normal. But it doesn't have to be.... There are people out there who care about your feelings. Even strangers! And you deserve to have consent (not just romantic or sexual) with acquaintances, friends, lovers, family members....
Also not a c-drama, but Life~Love on the Line surprised me with its discussion on consent. Thought it was refreshing to see two partners fumble with the concept and then work together to be better partners.
The subs showing around that time, he said to 001 "Please pull yourself together, i beg you please". If you watch…
I think you misunderstood me lol I watched on Netflix! So I had the same subtitle as you. When you listen to the Korean he says 아들 부탁ㅎㄱ. 아들 means son, 부탁 is I think the root word for a very earnest "please." So obviously the exact translation is not "Please pull yourself together." What I'm asking is what the literal translation is. If you happen to speak Korean please let me know!
For episode 6.... If I understand Korean enough, then think the ML basically pretended to be the old man's son in order to get the old guy to keep playing the marble game. It was literally just one moment, but this would make the scene wayyyy darker because it would be the ML actually doing something fucked up to win. Idk I am not fluent in Korean. I heard him say 아들 부탁ㅎㄱ (my Korean is not good enough to catch the ending) and I was like "DID HE JUST PRETEND TO BE THE OLD MAN'S SON?!" Is anyone fluent in Korean? Can you tell me what Gi Hun actually said in that line? It was around the 53:45 mark.
Did they not release an official soundtrack for this movie? I really liked the tune that played when they were getting beaten up in that alley.... that flute was killer.
Medusa looked like she was going to cry after calling the boys.... They didn't tell her about the egg donations, and yet she knew to tell the boys about the van.... It made me wonder if there was more to her character. How did she know? I wonder if her storyline got cut from the story to save time. I wish there was a movie about her background.
