I agree with what you're saying about kdramas as they do have a wider audience and more people tend to rate them and the ratings are far more objective. But I think you kinda missed my point about cdramas and MDL rating system. Cdrama fandom tend to rate a bit more obsessively. For example lltg has 9 stars for both parts and it's not just because it's really good. The fans there 'devotedly' voted from the beginning and they gave 10 to each and every episode whether each episode were that good or not. So the rating went up halfway through it's airing and stayed there. Had people voted objectively it would have maybe been 8.5-8.7 as the drama had it's share of critics too and many gave it around 8-8.5 after the drama ended. You can go and check the comment sections too. So what I am saying is the rating on MDL gets fixed early on and stays there, and unless we get a heavy influx of verified accs later it won't go up much no mater how many people rate it afterwards.

The viewers of L&P on MDL are more laid back I suppose, and many weren't even rating the episodes. So it was 8.4-8.5 from the earlier episodes and now it must have received some downvotes so it went down to 8.3, which doesn't correlate the mostly positive comments at all. You can observe this trend by yourself for the next few cdramas you follow.

I can't tell people what to do. I was just pointing out what I noticed as there have been many discussions here as to why the ratings are low here when it deserves better.

The ratings of this drama on MDL truly doesn't reflect how good it is and how well it is doing domestically. The douban rating and all other stats are good. Even on viki it is much, much higher, so it doesn't actually make sense that it's just 8.3 on MDL. Since most of us here pretty much agree that the ratings should be higher, I am jotting down a few things here based on what I've read and observed on MDL.

I am speaking here strictly for cdramas but this applies for kdramas too I guess. Ratings on MDL aren't always a true reflection of how good or bad the drama is. Most of the dramas that have 8.5-9 ratings don't always just have that rating coz they are all really good. Sometimes even average dramas with top stars have very high ratings and that's coz right after it starts airing the fandoms starts giving it 10 stars, not just overall ratings but the episode ratings as well. The episodes ratings matter too I guess, it's there for a reason. Ratings from verified accs count more. Once a drama finishes airing for vip members ( for web dramas like this one), the ratings on MDL sorta semi-freeze. No matter how much non-members rate afterwards, the ratings remain unchanged after that, unless a significant number of verified accs rate them afterwards. Sometimes people deliberately downvote as well.

So we have until 16 nov I guess. If we stay on the same MDL page for part 2, maybe we'll see a significant rise. But if go to a separate page for part 2, then it may stay around 8.3 or 8.4, unless more users give 8.5-10 stars.

So if you like this series and think it deserves better on MDL, don't just ask why it's low here. Please be generous and give it a good score and don't forget to rate the episodes as well. I am quite lazy as well and just usually give an overall ratings, but I suppose it makes a difference. Hopefully this drama will get the rating it deserves.

This kind of stuff happens all the time with all dramas. Sometimes if dramas become unexpected hits, that can also irk some people. I have seen it happen before so that's why I am saying it. This is getting mostly possible reviews everywhere both from critics and viewers, even douban rating is good. Even in this comment section, the reaction is quite positive. So why did the ratings go down?

I wholeheartedly agree. This is what sets this drama apart from the rest. It is the most 'non-tropey' drama despite having popular tropes. I love how the two lead characters have shaped up so far.

I haven't seen Falling into your smile so I can't really say anything about the plot, but it only did well internationally. If you want something good in the romance genre, try You Are My Glory. It is one of the best contemporary dramas. Both leads are mature and the relationship develops beautifully.
