Actually Wei Zheming has been there in the cast list for a while now. I was also surprised because I didn't notice it...actually I think most people didn't notice it coz no one talked about it, until I saw avenuex video a few weeks ago where she mentioned that he was rumoured to be in the cast. I was really surprised and then I checked MDL and he was in the cast list all along. If he's really here than it will be the third time he and Gong Jun collaborates.
Applause to Reba for her outstanding performance in epis 13-15. Seriously, she was so damn good. I couldn't stop crying during ep 14 and 15. The whole battle was filmed so well. I did feel like the animated parts took away a bit of impact but it was still so powerful and poignant. The actors playing A'dou and Gongsun Heng performed really well. I actually didn't like A'dou so much as a character in the beginning but he just made me cry buckets in epi 14. And Wu Lei is just so great. He has such a commanding screen presence at such a young age. I know he is technically a veteran in the industry but still a lot actors have difficulty making that transition, but We Lei just carries his role with such finesse. And the chemistry between We Lei and Reba is just wow.
Epi 11 and I am very much enjoying this. I love the dynamics between Changge and Asun. Are all the battle scenes here going to be animated? If that's the case then it's going to be quite disappointing for me though. I wanted to see at least some part of the battles with the actors.
Can somebody shed some light into Ashile Sun's tribe? Where exactly do they originate from? I did some research to understand things better but it's still kinda confusing because there is a lot of information.
Such a poignant epi. DFJ, you are a true hero. It was wonderful to see DFJ and WXS interaction and had things…
Yes, on second thoughts I also feel kinda sad that we didn't see that fight. It would have been great to see DFJ's last heroic battle especially since it's the only time DFJ actually really fought on the right side, beside that brief fight with Thirteen Doom.
Ep 37: Those two lackeys from the dungeon deserved what they got. At first Wen Rou seemed really stupid to actually…
LC and BCF definitely had good chemistry, or rather the actors LYN and MZY had good chemistry. I would actually love to see them paired in another drama.
Review of epi 37 and 38: I was so exhausted after the finale that just wasn't able to write anything earlier.…
Ep 37:
Those two lackeys from the dungeon deserved what they got. At first Wen Rou seemed really stupid to actually get caught by BCF even after knowing what had transpired and it was also kinda surprising how she was rather calm and wasn't really lashing out much after everything he did, but later everything became clear as she had already met Lei Chun and the plan was to somehow open the secret tunnel. BCF was basically beaten at his own game by every single person who was once close to him. WKX by returning alive and vowing to avenge their big bro, SMZ by surviving, escaping and returning, Wen Rou by getting caught only to open the tunnel later and Lei Chun by rescuing SMZ and returning along with him. He could neither defeat a terminally ill SMZ earlier nor could he win against the evenly matched WXS. I thought these final fights scenes were really well done starting from the one between SMZ-BCF, Trunk Tower vs BCF's Sunset Drizzle (?) and the one on one between WXS-BCF. The whole sequence with WXS tying SMZ red cloth on him arm, marching with his following and finally invading the house all looked quite epic.
Ep 38:
I had prepared myself to see a tragedy unfold with the opening scene in the first epi but apparently it wasn't enough. It was really pitiful how BCF held on to his obsession for as long as he could until he just couldn't anymore. It's sad that he never really saw SMZ as a brother or even as a friend. He was nothing more than a ladder for him. At first he was in awe of his which turned into envy and later transforming into hatred and resentment. Despite maybe being jealous of wxs for being the favored one, deep down he still loved him, the only person he actually ever cared for besides LC. In the end, neither he could actually hurt WXS nor could WXS hurt him. Poor SMZ, it was just sad how the greatest swordsman was no longer able to stand on his two feet. It was even sadder that he lamented about losing his only family and finding two brothers only two be loathed by one of those brothers. Both BCF jumping from that very place where he once happily stood was painful to watch. He was a defeated man who had nothing left but regret. SMZ ordering Wu Xie to do what he had asked before was even more painful to watch. SMZ followed by DFJ were my favorite characters in the show. I just cried buckets. But I have to applaud the cast, they all did such a commendable job in this epi. Lastly, Lei Chun. In the end she had probably become the lonliest person in existence that she gladly walked into the sea or rather went wherever SMZ went.
As for the rest of the epi, the chancellor getting punished and the friends embarking on a journey coz they have nothing left in this busy yet lonely city was very fitting.
All in all, I really enjoyed this drama and gave it a 9 out of 10. Despite some flaws here and there it left a deep impression on me and I loved pretty much the entire cast. The music and cinematography was superb. I'll probably share some more thoughts on the cast and the overall story later.
