I watched 8 episodes but had to drop it because of the irrational annoying second female lead. There was not much redeeming to make it worth the time. I love Eleanor Lee, she deserves better than this.
I am not surprise this drama was pulled, it deviated too much from the classic novel. I think they should have…
Their ending is so sad. Thanks for the details on the ending for the fox demon and Daji, they were my favorite part of the show. Also thanks for sharing the links to the missing episodes! I'm glad someone got the ending out there, it seemed so disrespectful to everyone who worked on this show and to the fans to leave out the last couple episodes.
Originally they were in gaming competitions but the show changed it to CTF hacking competitions
Sorry that's only what they're playing, that's not the reason why HSY is disappointed and angry. If you want the spoiler, according to the novel, HSY is disappointed and angry with Solo because they were like brothers and he felt abandoned, because Solo had promised to take them to win the world championship. The members of the team were poor and all sacrificed to join this team. HSY had tricked his stepmom into releasing some of his inheritance so they could keep the team going. Their teammates had no education or proper jobs to go back to after the team fell apart.
This is interesting! Wonder if the original script had more Xufeng backstories and moments. Let me know if you…
The douban post has the script in image files. A friend who can read mandarin translated. The original script was more like the novel and they did cut Xu feng parts :(
Question... does anyone know if the series is going to cover all three novels? I just started reading God’s…
I just saw a blog that wrote:
Previously, Mo Bao Fei Bao, author of the original novel and screenwriter of this drama adaptation, had said Go Go Squid! would cover the entire trilogy (God’s Left Hand, Playing Fish Trapped in the Sealed Chamber, and Stewed Squid with Honey). However, Mo Bao Fei Bao clarified that statement yesterday. Yes, she had pulled all three stories together (because Squid is too short as a standalone adaptation), but then she re-split them into two separate scripts. Go Go Squid! ‘s story is going to include all of Stewed Squid with Honey and about the last 1/3 of Sealed Chamber.
Any ashes of love fans have a baidu account? I found this post that supposedly has the original Ashes of Love script before it was changed by another set of screenwriters.
I think you're talking about his old team captain Solo, right? Solo broke up the team and there will be more flashbacks…
I don't know if the drama will add more reasons for Gun's anger but in the novel, Appledog and Solo felt really guilty and Gun felt angry about the team breaking up because most of them came from poor backgrounds and they had made huge sacrifices to make the eSport team happen. I think Gun came from a more privileged background and he had tricked his family into giving him some of his family inheritance that made it possible for the team to survive back then. Solo was like a brother to him and he felt very betrayed.
So far nothing seems to be going on between dt and appledog? Also does dt know that their fake dating, he does…
Nothing has been shown on screen so far but they exchanged a look at the beginning when Gun refused to shake her hand. Also later Gun said something about how Dt doesn't care about anyone else but his goddess. Maybe more is going on off screen that will be shown later. I think Dt knows about the fake dating. Dt said he wasn't going to clear up the misunderstanding with the teammates because Gun didn't clear up the misunderstanding himself. He also deliberately put Gun in a weird situation at that dinner because Gun didn't help him out of the blind date.
I haven’t read the stories. Could you please summarize for lazy people like me? I don’t mind about spoilers...
I couldn't get enough of them in the books, so I also hope there will be more sweet moments of them together in the show. Appledog's actress pulls off the right attitude and friendliness, but she's 6 years older than HYT and looks much more mature. Appledog is only supposed to be 3 years older, so we'll see if they'll have good chemistry together.
I think you're talking about his old team captain Solo, right? Solo broke up the team and there will be more flashbacks…
In the second novel, it is clearly stated that Solo and Appledog broke up the team. Things might be a bit more ambiguous in the drama. Maybe in the drama, the team was effectively broken without Solo so Gun quit. There are some other details related to this that made Gun more angry but I didn't want to spoil it for you unless you wanted more.

Books 1 & 2 are mostly about gaming and the developing romantic relationship between Appledog, a former pro gamer turned commentator and rising star pro gamer Dt (who happens to be her old teammate Gun's cousin). Dt is very quiet but completely steadfastly in love with Appledog who had inspired him to start gaming. In flashbacks, the story reveals the reason behind the disbandment of the legendary eSports team called Team Solo, which included Solo, Gun, Appledog, All, & Xiaomi. Solo and Appledog broke up because some random female gamer showed up with an illegitimate daughter that he didn't know about and Appledog was just a teenager at the time so she couldn't handle it. Because he let down their teammates, Solo had promised Gun that he'll never be a team captain again. Solo went on to having a successful eSports career but only playing single player games. Gun starts his own eSports team called K&K and Solo has his team called SP. Both want to bring glory to the country in eSports, and both also want to take care of their old teammates who sacrificed a lot in the past before it became a viable occupation. The old teammates come around to forgiving each other and at the very end of book 2 they reassemble Team Solo for one last exhibition game against the rising stars. Book 3 introduces Tong Nian, a computer genius mini celebrity cosplay singer who falls in love with Gun at first sight when he shows up at an internet cafe one night. She starts playing the game that he played in the cafe. Through some coincidences, she gets entangled in his life and he warms up to her innocent and persistent personality. There is some overlap with the other novels but told from Gun's point of view.
So starting off I enjoyed the first ep more than I thought I would. I literally didn't know that I had been watching…
Appledog is only 3 years older (according to the first two novels), but the casting makes the age gap much greater. I'm not crazy about this change either
Before the show started I had only read Honey Stewed Squid, but found out that the show might incorporate plot from the prequels so I started reading them. The 2 prequels tell the story of side characters in the Honey Stewed Squid story. They are heavy on gaming and slow in romance (but very sweet in my opinion).

There are some minor spoilers in the blog post

Having read all three, Honey Stewed Squid can stand on its own but I don't recommend reading book 2 before book 1
