it's not actually about making ML a common enemy. Sometimes second lead treats the FL so so unrealistically well that people feel for their genuineness. The way they yearn so respectfully and give all their love and genuineness is what makes them attractive in viewers eyes.
However I must say these days people shower the 2nd leads with a little too much love even when they are red flags, toxic or controlling. In that case, we can say that they truly take male lead as common enemy.

Yeah hu yitian is a nice guy irl. I liked him in various variety shows....it's just that when it comes to his dramas, I have a hard time accepting his aloof and rude roles. He always takes those yearning roles where he's also rude to the FL over one thing or the other, creating endless misunderstandings and hurting feelings. The only time ever I felt his role was good before was in DT. Appledog's time.
I'm on ep 2 and It's safe to say that he has a nice role here so far. Not like those roles where his miscommunications cause misunderstandings.

well HYT didn't sit well with me ever.....It's just personal opinion but I didn't liked his acting and role in the past. His roles are always secretly red flag ones. And that's why I didn't wanted to start this at all bcuz I knew I will eventually drop it bcuz of HYT but I was curious about TXW's role so I just started it out casually, until I saw the child actors and I'm totally hooked to their pre junior-high story.
The girl playing the young TXW has totally won my heart!!!!!!!! I wish I could know her name and see more of her works in future. I hope this child get more projects in the future. She's totally killing it

the young main leads are so damn interesting and good at acting. I felt more engrossed when those child actors were acting as compared to the adults

yeah cuz hu yitian has a major history in acting in genius-aloof high school ML cliche....I hope too that it doesn't end that way. I absolutely would hate it that way

ma si chun looks absolutely gorgeous in this! She was always a charming woman but her styling was done so well here

All my good rating is not for the production because the story itself had lots of weak plots and imperfect executions, but the rating is for the cast who absolutely left no stones unturned into bringing out the best of their acting skills. Each and every character played their part well from the teachers, to students , to even the villains. Every small role supported the storyline by delivering their absolute best. So if I give it an 8, it's all because of the entire cast.
Thankful for the casting director to choose such brilliant people for this job!

Highlight or not, the whole bunch of actors casted for the team were amazing at their job. Not only the 3 that you mentioned, but there are others who shined brightly.

As for the 2 I mentioned , that's purely bcuz of their flexibility to play long range of emotions so easily even with drastic change. Honestly even Fu xin shu can come into that category. But the 2 that I mentioned can surely take up any project with different genres easily. So I hope the director's notice them significantly.

The two most promising new actors proved through this show would be the actors playing- Qin Ao and Wen chengye.
Although the whole cast playing the Hongjing football team was insanely good at acting despite being so young, however these two perfectly delivered all kinds of varied emotions yet keeping their character's core psychology intact. Doing this is hard for most actors as they make little slip ups on the way but these two executed it perfectly. Hope they get more works in future bcuz of their skills. I believe these two can play in literally any genre- be it romance, mystery, adventure, comedy, slice of life, on the basis of their skills shown so far.
