It’s confidence with restraint. He’s there on a mission to find out what happened 18 years ago and he doesn’t want to draw attention to this, so he’s purposefully hiding his talents and just blending in enough to not be noticed. Also, he suspects there are demons in Chang’an, so the last thing he wants to do is alert them that he’s a Celestial Master from Changxi palace, their long-standing nemesis for years. If you make it to EP7 you’ll see him doing something extremely bold to further his mission.

💯 the scenes are so well thought out and the camera framing is 🤌. the closeups capture the micro-expressions on the actors faces… i totally feel them.

And the few scenes they had together, there was a lot of tension and restraint. It was so well done. I was so cheering for them!

Her father framed Mu Yao’s father which ended with Mu Yao’s committing suicide to prove hi innocence. They later find out that her father framed Mu Yao’s father, so they execute him for doing that and exiled his family. I think the family was taken by the authorities where they were exiled and punished because of what they did to Mu Yao’s father. In the beginning scene, she escapes from where they are being held so they come after her.

Creepy stalker = MS or PJY? 😅 If MS, yes, MZY and WZ find out, but at different times. If PJY, not yet as there is nothing l-ink-ing him to the ink, though I’m sure MZY’s investigative prowess will lead him to PJY since he’s already suspicious of him given the incident at the inn.

The root cause is PJY targeting MS’s love for painting and courting Tai Zhen by drawing the demons in the White Serpent book. The demon snake further incites MS to paint more and more demons and the obsession spell from the ink itself drives him insane. Hence that fantastic intensity from MZY to save MS.

Goodness…the intensity of MZY/XK’s gaze always gets me, especially when he’s on a mission to break the spell on his cousin…then to draw and eradicate all the ink demons wreaking havoc in the city. I love all the closeups of him with that fierce gaze…ugh…😅serenity now! 🥹
