although i love the friends to lovers trope, i'm generally disappointed at the execution of it. it's safe to say this wasn't the case at all here! i'd even argue it's the best i've seen in awhile. if you're a fan of fast pacing then i probably wouldn't recommend it for you as it can be a bit frustrating but personally i enjoyed the slow burn (coming from someone who tends to find it boring). the transition to friends to lovers was so beautifully done. it's easy to just say these characters have been friends for a long time but it's another to really showcase it. the small moments and gestures without a second thought, to know someone better than you know yourself, to be comfortable enough to show the best and worst part of yourselves. that's why the hesitancy and awkwardness that comes with having romantic feelings after years of friendship feels so realistic. they don't want to lose that one person who's always been by their side. everything about their thoughts and actions had been understandable.
it's not everyday you get real childhood friends to act in a friends to lovers drama so this made it more memorable. what i love is you got to clearly see that through their chemistry - as friends obviously but the sexual tension even before they were officially together?? CRAZY. had my heart fluttering a ridiculous amount of times. after so many dreaded miscommunications and misunderstandings in dramas, it was refreshing to see a healthy relationship being portrayed. the dialogue feels natural and nothing was overly dramatic for the sake of angst. only two people who felt conflicting emotions over the transition of their relationship. while it definitely took them towards the end of the drama to be official, the payoff was very satisfying and the kisses too.
unfortunately the downside for me is the lack of plot as i found it hard to get through which i guess is kind of normal for anything business related. i didn't particularly care for the supporting characters either. they're fine enough if not for the lack of self awareness majority of the time but aside from that, i'm really going to miss my beloved tangjiang (syrup) couple <3
i find it funny how they had a meeting to determine whether or not they should go public with their relationship idk lmao it always tends to be one of them wanting to keep it a secret so that was a refreshing change
the awkward and overthinking phase in their relationship is honestly so endearing to me like i find it realistic tbh all this time they've been good friends so now they're transitioning into something more of course they're going be nervous and filled with butterflies 🥹🥹
i know everyone's complaining about the pacing but i'm personally enjoying the slow burn. i tend to find the execution of slow burn to be kind of boring most of the time but they're doing a good job here. the balance between friendship and the tension of something more is *chef's kiss*.
as much as we all want them to get together, i do think their situation is quite realistic. that line between them is delicate. would you rather lose the person who's always been by your side or suffer in silence as it's enough for them to be happy? fear and uncertainty is stronger. it's completely understandable. it's not as simple as taking one step forward and crossing that line but once they do, it's going to be so satisfying.
seeing their families spend new years together was so lovely too, it makes their relationship even more meaningful.
ep 12's epilogue ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ indeed when you're on the urge of breaking down you need someone who's able to keep you grounded, i love their friendship soooo much
