tbh that makes little sense because IQIYI has a bigger market share in streaming than Tencent. They don't need to piggyback off Tencent's promos. the lack of promo makes me feel that they might not be confident with the quality of the product or they're trying to air this discretely to avoid garnering more attention over the billing issue.
it's super rushed and barely promoted by iqiyi. it's going to finish airing in 2 weeks and there's barely any ads on their mainland website. really bizarre roll out. I wonder if it has to do with all the fighting over billing.
I'm sorry but this billing stuff is the dumbest thing I've heard. if the drama does well, both leads will benefit. Dylan was second billing in LBFAD and he arguably gained way more from that drama than Esther. I just want another big budget historical drama to air! lol I'm tired of these modern romcoms
I feel like fans are bit too sensitive. people are allowed to dislike a drama as long as the criticism is rational. imo, things like pointing out the cgi is bad or they dislike a character is valid criticism.
the good thing about modern dramas is that they are quick to film. historical dramas are always 4 months of filming with some being even longer. like Eternal Faith took 8 months!! 8!! and it's not even going to air :/ The Grand Princess is going to finish filming at the end of this month or early Feb and then he'll prob rest a month and then film the modern rom drama in March.
ZLH said in an interview that they are most likely wrapping up filming before CNY (Feb 10). since this drama has no CGI, hopefully post-production won't take long. MJTY's post-production only took 5 months and that drama even had some CGI.
IQIYI should really just sell this to a foreign streaming platform like netflix and just have it air outside of China. the IP for this drama is huge so it's guaranteed to have viewers even without China. The animated show was able to air so I don't understand why they can't do the same for the live action.
I'm glad someone else is reading/has read it. Can't lie, Wei Shao comes across as such a terrible guy in the novel…
lol he is definitely not kind in the novel. his character is your typical cold ML, but ngl that's what attracts a lot of cdrama viewers (see Story of Kunning Palace). He pretty much is only sexually attracted to FL and even admits towards the end of the novel that he felt like she was a "trap" sent by her family because of her beauty and how he fell for her looks. Their relationship is pretty shallow in the book.
Nah, most video of them put together are actually with the filming crews, the director was in one of those, too.…
they were not in the same frame because they didn't go in the apartment at the same time lol I just went to look at the video again, and basically Bailu went to his place and then he came home a while later after his filming was done. She had just wrapped SOKP and wasn't working at the time while he went straight to film Fox Spirit after SOKP so he was still living in Hengdian at the time.
also, the most damning aspect is that neither side put out a public statement denying the rumor. ZLH, especially, would've denied if it wasn't true since dating rumors for rising actors is pretty detrimental. I still remember all the hate he received after this news came out last year. all of his newly acquired fangirls from LBFAD abandoned him. would make no sense to not deny the rumor if it wasn't true.
ever since he said he wanted to film a modern drama next, his name has been included in sooo many melons lol I wonder which one is true x_x tbh 9 out of 10 modern cdramas flop domestically and he suits historical dramas so much more.

no, I think you're confusing the timeline lol basically this is what happened: - SOKP filmed from May to early September 2022. during filming, ZLH & BL were often spotted by paparazzis going out to eat with other cast members (this is what WXY was talking about). - On Sept 24, 2022, a famous paparazzi teased that he had dating scoop of a top actress. this key word trended on weibo the whole day and then in the evening, the paparazzi released a video of Bailu staying overnight at ZLH's rented apartment in Hengdian (where he was filming a cameo for Fox Spirit Matchmaker at the time) for 2 nights. in the video, you can see BL being dropped off at his place by her assistant at night and the assistant left the premise alone. The video also showed BL leaving his place the next morning wearing the exact same clothes as the previous night.
they were already finished filming SOKP at the time these videos took place so it doesn't really make sense for her to stay overnight at his place. imo, I think it's pretty obvious that they dated briefly towards the end of SOKP filming but since the paparazzi exposed them so early in their relationship, they probably broke up promptly afterwards to avoid the media & fans scrutiny. I don't think it's anything worth over-analyzing because a lot of co-stars fall in love during filming. I just wanted to set things straight about the timeline.
I'm reading the novel right now and I'm kind of curious how they adapted this. the novel has a LOT of sex scenes lol I think 80% of the interactions between ML & FL is them having sex and they resolve every problem through sex lol I guess they changed it to kissing?
but I can see why everyone was looking forward to this. if adapted correctly, this drama could be very epic. the plot and characters aren't anything new but it offers a lot of scale. for example, there's so many battle scenes in the novel, and a lot of drama with the family feud and politics that could be expanded further. most importantly, the romance has a LOT of sexual tension. although, like I said, a lot of this was resolved through physical interactions in the novel. I wonder how the drama will portray things.
when I was reading it, I kind of had visuals of ancient epics like Three Kingdoms or even western ones like Troy. really hope this drama airs eventually.
so I stopped watching somewhere around episode 26 but I was wondering, did this drama end poorly? the iqiyi heat index peaked on the 10th and then never broke the 10K barrier again even with the fast track package.. which is weird. All of the dramas that broke 10K on IQIYI's heat index peaked in their final episodes.
fingers crossed we can see this drama in 2024!
