That their class difference and what he must give up to be with her, rubbed in her nose by Liu Wan and the 'proper' wives' (later confirmed by his hesitation to rescue her from the stage) affected her performance and attitude. Her choice of Chu Han in ep. 1/2 may have been a cry against her fate, but for many episodes, she did not see Menglin as a rescuer but a rich pampered pervert seeking her virginity. Hence the brick in the prison cell, and telling the poor people that his food was up for grabs. Yet his response was against what she expected. He was thrilled to give the food away and when he offered the crying boy his snack, you can see her looking at him. Brief but it was there for a reason. Unfortunately the writers had her rejecting him for much of the drama. As late as ep. 26/36 she slapped him when he kissed her. Not really spoken, but she was weighed down by the fear that any happiness was only temporary. Respect your opinions, but this drama appears on many recommended lists here on MDL. The most recent that I noticed was a day ago on Qingchuan's Veil of Vengeance. Mebbe not the plot is loved but the chemistry between the leads and for me, the back story with the main couple. The sled, the boodstained shoulders. the fireflies. The director and screenwriter were on a hot streak. Tastes are varied. What strikes a cord with one may not do the same with another. I'm struggling to get into Love Between Fairy and Devil. But realize that it is not the drama's fault. Thank you.

There are glances and private thoughts with the FL and ML that do almost as well as an overt romance. Ep. 5, he asks Mo Wang about where she is from, trying to confirm his suspicion that she really is Mo Qingchuan. The looks they exchange, his doe in the headlights eyes when he looks at her is replicated in her eyes when he says in ep. 8 that he can fight alongside Master. She knowing that he really knows that she is Mo Qingchuan and turns away to hide her emotions.

After ep. 11. Toe to toe against the Dowager?
