this was so weird. started out lovely. the family was cool, fl was cool...ml was...there too 🤣. then all of a sudden fl was a stones throw from being crowned mother Teresa in every scene 🤦🏻♀️ i mean theres benevolence and righteousness and then theres nauseating levels of it. and oh..apparently she inherited her grandpas idiocy of "ill speak up for something NOT WORTH SPEAKING UP FOR TO FUCKING BEGIN WITH AND put COUNTLESS of people.in danger just cuz" tf!?. ending was definitely written on crack..or as a joke. mls fighting scenes were absolutely awesome though. and emperor was portrayed realistically (his evil logic made more sense than FLs stupidity (enraging the evil FL for ZERO reason, and arrogantly yapping back at THE EMPEROR WHO JUST DID AWAY WITH YOUR ENTIRE MALE CLAN AND MADE YOUR FEMALE FAMILY SUFFER FOR GOD KNOWS HOW LONG..but hey..at least she got to get yappy 🤦🏻♀️ even if it could unravel everything you did. 2ml was a nice guy and not in an annoying way. this coulda been so nice. but they had to ruin it 🤦🏻♀️
this was definitely better than eternal love (sorry mark chao but u were the only thing i cant complain about in that one) as far as classics go, but i hated the mortal arc with the 2nd ML. i personally felt nothing for 2ml. couldnt even be interested in his story - so to see him shoved into the show for sooooo long just felt odd to me. hes not a character i didnt like - i didnt care about him. at all. i wanted him to go away and stop.wasting our time. otherwise loved the fl and ml. i did feel like they spent a lot of time fleshing out the beginning and then the mortal 2ml arc, and then went "oh shit we have limited episodes" towards the end, which was a shame. definitely one the better classics out there
err..this FL is just nails on a blackboard. doesnt help that i personally have a hard time watching this actress (every role that requires her to be a bit stupid/oblivious she always plays with an unhinged arrogance and weird ditzy facial expressions of a 5 year old). loved the ML and actor. theres just something about him - not your typical face card, but something is there in how he commands himself. shame hes no longer allowed in the biz. overall the show was too messy for my taste tbh. too many things made zero sense and the CPs build up fell flat compared to what the show stood for (this big grand love story). still watched it for its classic status and would recommend it for that reason alone. oh and btw - i do not understand anyone shipping the 2ml. he was weird, whiny, enveloped in self proclaimed self pity, and the actor is not stoic enough to carry this role. so many episodes and it still felt like they rushed the entire show and missed the main part - the love of the main cp 🤦🏻♀️
this was a very well done show. loved the FL and absolutely ADORE the actress. now this is how you play an arrogant childish goddess without causing grey hair in the audience (in the beginning). loved all the characters and genuinely wish they had more episodes to build a better happy ending and maybe some longer in betweens for the main cp
contrary to many comments, i actually feel this actress did a good job at being emotionless. and the writer did us justice by allowing her to be a good friend even tho she couldnt feel. they didnt equate emotionless to utter stupidity (im looking at you ashes of love). yea they had pretty horrid misunderstandings and they definitely werent perfectly fleshed out (enough for us to understand and not hate the FL) - but they were needed for the drama. yes the whole "sifeng sifeng" yelling got annoying, as was the amount of times the poor kid spat blood (can we stop already), but otherwise, a good classic i would say. decently built and well acted (unlike some weird ass shows that just jump from.scene to scene, have weird characters, spend a shit ton of time on characters noone cares about and then finish off in 10 seconds - im looking at you peach blossoms)
i dont understand the hate FL gets for her voice. a) this actress knows EXACTLY how to use it in all her shows (unlike 99% baby voiced actresses who just arrogantly whine and yell thru their scenes), she follows thru with wonderful facial expressions, and b) shes an innocent weak fairy in this....the heck ya'll want her to sound like? monica belluci?!. anyhoo. wonderfully rich show (costumes and sets were so good here). sexy as hell ML character really well portrayed by the actor (altho he really needed bai lu's expertise in his later show to be transferred here so his devilishness can be shown in the kiss scenes. they just werent up to par with his character here. the only time i felt it was lackluster and broke character). hated the rushed ending. really wanted to see the ending parts more fleshed out. the whole show was awesome and entertaining, but kinda zoomed towards the end. shame.
this was actually wonderful. i loved the pairing. and i also surprisingly for the first time loved the 2ML. he did such a good job portraying his character and i felt so bad for him. i usually never ever ever root for or pity 2MLs (im 2 dimensional like that 😝), but here..i felt for him. good job to the actor and character. loved shen li and xing zhi. they did such a great job with their characters. altho the romance part was a little rushed (the part where he flipped and did the sea thing kinda went from 0-100 - i would have liked longer and better build up). i also absolutely loved the slice of life vibe and the whole chicken thing in the beginning. one of the few shows where i wished it lasted a heck of a lot longer.
this was so vibrant and fun to watch. loved this. plot holes and messy logic included - it was just fun as heck to watch this. well done to the entire cast and crew
i quite liked this (even tho it did suffer from the typical stale/drag towards the end). i understood the FLs push and pull. her whole life was dedicated to this stranger who shes convinced into loving and then bam...life ruined on a whim and noone even cares or remembers her life. so the rooted love vs pride vs unfairness etc made her the way she was - push/pull/curious/cold. i loved both their characters and genuinely hated that they didnt give us more interactions between them. loved the costumes and overall design/aesthetic. soothing story, with wonderful food.
this had good premise, and despite most comments, i actually liked and understood the FL. I also really appreciate the actress behind it. these roles are easy to play in an unhinged arrogant manner (as done in 90% of these types of dramas) 'but she made me believe that she simply was a street performer, who lived and cemented her homelessness in her personality. her character was logical for the most part. (ok there were a few annoying bits but hey its cdrama - at least she acknowledged them fairly fast). not sure what everyone expected of her super strength..she used it where it was apt and of course she was never shown to be the hulk (which is what many comments are implying she shoulda become for some reason) ML could not act. at all. that really distracted me tbh. frowning is his go to in every scene. i was surprised that anyone around him wasnt snickering somewhere in the background. it was that bad. but he was decent in the action scenes. and he carried his body well during most of his scenes. what i did like is his character. in the beginning he actually was the rude annoyign one of the two. in these types of shows, they show the ML to be cold, but really its always the FL whos just unreasonable and the ML does nothing wrong really - cdramas way of making us never faulter on those MLs. here they didnt do that. he wasnt crazy, but he was unnecessarily rude to a girl who was relatively nice and logical toward him. i enjoyed their outfits. liked their progress till about 2/3 of the show where it kinda went stale. story got boring after a while. ff became my best friend.
omfg...never had i wanted an FL to die in the end this much. she was utterly STUPID to the very end...had ZERO redeeming qualities and of course our ML apologized and had to be the one that grovels in the end....errr even though the FL caused him so much grief and put so many people in danger/gotten em killed.
omfg..epic tale of a rude arrogant village woman (and her equally stupid mother) who injects herself and her stupid opinions on a family that was living peacefully, causing them to completely disintegrate into madness and near death, whilst said arrogant village woman continues to be unchecked and spew her self-righteous nonsense till the very end. never had i wanted an FL to be stabbed to death this much 🤦🏻♀️ (ok maybe in cuo dian yuan yang i did). anyone who was complaining about how the ML treated her baffles me. she put EVERYONE in danger..not light danger...people fucking died as a direct result of her arrogance and pure stupidity!!..continued to be stupidly arrogant till the very end, never recognizing the absolute SHITSHOW she created for everyone with her selfish assumptions that some random grown ass man she never knew ABSOLUTELY HAS TO KNOW HIS BIRTH MOM. what in the living fuck was this story 🤦🏻♀️. they still tried to paint HER as awesome and HIM as crazy 🤦🏻♀️. yikes
omfg...can some angel save us from this torture and sub it properly. yikes this is painful to watch...but judging from the reviews its a good show it seems....such a shame
Agree, as much as I did think that even it is a verbal promise, it is still a promise. As a gentleman, Ouyang…
yea they seem to push these toxic stories a lot nowadays. takes away from the watching experience unfortunately. and when a show is built up well and has great casting, i agree it makes me more angry than when its a crappily done show i dont care about
Interesting. What was happening to make it toxic feminism? It has a high rating, does that mean toxic feminism…
mass approval isnt always right or wrong so cannot be used as a judge for any statement. perhaps the majority of the crowd is just watching a story and dont care to get bogged down by details im digging around in. those details arouse certain thoughts in me, i simply stated them. i know im definitely not alone in my assumptions .. as for what makes it toxic, in my opinion her bullying a guy cuz he simply made a promise. delivering a feminist message at the expense of others and in an entitled manner (everyone owes her money incl ML and when ML doesnt pay up hes bad, prostitutes are bad but her crew isnt, women are all innocent but all the men in the show are exceptionally bad just for the sake of being bad( they threw everything but the sink at the poor fiance to make him awful but it still made no sense),). i feel those forms of feminist messages arent healthy, theyre toxic to the idea and to us women. id still rate this show high simply for the sake of its production value, coherent story like (tired of the bad editing in so so many shows), the leads and rest of the casting, the calming pace of the show etc. there are shows i liked better message wise but editing/production would make me lower the score compared to this one for example. doesn't mean i agree with everything in the show tho.
decent watch. didnt skip anything even though its a long watch (although i am partial to longer shows if theyre done well). underwhelming FL tbh. the comments and descriptions built her up a lot, but to me personally, she was a bit..flat. she had her moments but given all the rave reviews, i guess thats more on me. assumption- the mother of all fuck ups. despite that - i still watched all of it. the actress is nice/watchable. shes mature in her acting which is always a plus. . cant say i believed in her love towards him. the way they wrote her made no sense with her lack of understanding love. and i feel the actress was more long term comfortable with him rather than in love. felt like watching a new couple become an old couple right away...the part where she falls in love...was very flat (to me). i dont care about skinship etc before someone comments that. her eyes felt empty/best friend-ish when looking at him. reason i focus on the lack of love is because all of her other parts were written very well, and the love story is a big part of this but it just...meh. .although this show was very well made and written, the antagonists were for some reason typical caricatures. not sure why they did that considering the seriousness of the protagonists characters. it made things confusing. . overall well done, but would not watch it again. something was missing - not sure what. felt like a well done and beautiful drama...but it was empty at the same time if that makes sense.
Agree, as much as I did think that even it is a verbal promise, it is still a promise. As a gentleman, Ouyang…
agreed. there was zero women empowerment. there was plenty of entitlement, unrestrained hysterical bullying, gender arrogance, baseless gender bias and shaming of other women (they constantly put down women who work in brothels as prostitutes as opposed to them who played instruments and danced...wtf kinda message is that if they work in the same friggin building).
to be fair..i prefer how they handled the whole restaurant/teahouse running thing here WAY better over "new life…
oh still do watch new life begins. i genuinely enjoyed it. i just skipped their restaurant stuff tbh. the cast and rest of it is worth it. i still didnt drop dream of splendor because it is one of the rare well shot calm-ish dramas. most of the feel good ones are rushed/chopped/silly AF...this one had mature leads which was worth watching...setting aside the stupid logic i mentioned earlier. but i do have to warn that the romance kinda felt underwhelming. good build up...and then meh...BUT i still finished it and dont regret watching it i suppose.
decent show. wonderful couple who has awesome chemistry and actually has satisfactory solutions to issues thrown at them (not always but better than 90% of the shows). the story itself was kinda all over the place tbh. i actually like the vicious princess more than the other plots. she was awfully cruel and kinda more realistic (because back then royalty was definitely blindly entitled) than the stupid jealous women they create in most shows. her part actually seemed more realistic than the other 3...or 4 that they threw at us, and the actress certainly played her part well. the viciousness on her face was very well done. the FL actress is wonderful. loved her ability to maintain a mature air regardless of how the script wrote her actions. would love to see her in more main roles. . overall not bad. writing was weird, but not worse than a lot of other filler shows. and again, rarely awesome couple who had wonderful chemistry (prob one of the better ones out there). ML was better at fight scenes than some very highly paid actors - which was surprising. altho i wouldn't watch this drama again, i cant help but feel i will miss this couple and might just peak back at them again some time
really like that this actress has been thrown the most typically annoying and irrational character traits at her, but she manages to play it in an adult like manner that doesnt make you want to rip your hair out, like in 99% of the shows of this caliber (ie episode 8 when clearly the ML and his mom HAD ZERO idea about the engagement contract and the FL KNOWS that, but she STILL has to blame him according to the brilliant script. completely stupid writing yet this actress manages to not irritate the audience with her reactions (her facial reactions do not convulse and her voice never shrills. especially her eyes - they do not bulge out of her head in manic hysteria as per usual FL reactions in these rom coms). thats something short of a miracle in these shows. of course, her sidekick does the typical reaction thing - ie she goes batshit crazy and whips her sword out. omfg what a moron 🤦🏻♀️)
anyhoo. wonderfully rich show (costumes and sets were so good here). sexy as hell ML character really well portrayed by the actor (altho he really needed bai lu's expertise in his later show to be transferred here so his devilishness can be shown in the kiss scenes. they just werent up to par with his character here. the only time i felt it was lackluster and broke character). hated the rushed ending. really wanted to see the ending parts more fleshed out. the whole show was awesome and entertaining, but kinda zoomed towards the end. shame.
