Thank you for the article, it was really good! I usually save these kind of drama's for around Halloween, and…
Thank you, I'm happy you liked the article! :) I understand that certain types of dramas require a specific time of year, mood, or even time of the day, that's how I also sometimes decide on which dramas to watch ^^ You've watched/are watching great dramas :D I hope you'll have fun with the ones you're planning to watch, too! I haven't seen The Ghost Detective yet, but it sounds like an interesting drama to try :)
I understand, we all have different tastes :) but it's also true that many fantasy k-dramas have a lot of potential…
Thank you sm! Huh, it turned out I've already seen a few ghost dramas, my brain just didn't classify them like that :D I've watched (and liked) The Great Shaman, Black, The Uncanny Counter and SYHH. Both Bring It On and Master's Sun are on Netflix so I think I'll watch their first episodes and then decide on which to watch next :D I've heard so many good things about Kingdom, and some of my favourite actors are there, but... I hate zombies in general :P So I'm still undecided whether to watch it or not. Thank you for the other supernatural recs too - I've started watching Signal, but put it on hold for a while - I have to be in a particular mood to watch it. I'll check out the other dramas that you've mentioned ^^
Thank you sm, I'm happy you liked the article! :)Hm, you're probably right that many people have seen at least…
Good luck! Slumps happen from time to time, but they can be overcome, and usually it just happens in a natural way, so don't stress yourself too much because of that ^^
Cdrama fairyland lovers could fall into this category
You're right! I started watching it back then when it was airing, but I dropped it because it reminded me too much of Goblin, and just like in Goblin I didn't really like the childish FL :) Hm, but maybe I'll give it another chance :)
Firstly, considering this as your maiden article, it's really nice with detailed analysis of every drama mentioned.…
Thank you sm, I'm happy you liked the article! :) Hm, you're probably right that many people have seen at least one of these dramas ^^ But not everyone comes back for other dramas with similar characters and plot structure. It's like - I watched Hyena and Stranger, and loved them both, but I don't feel the need to watch any other strictly legal drama. With urban fantasy though, especially with the uncanny business stories, it's different - I'll always keep coming back for more :D I really like all of these dramas, but my favourite is probably Mystic Pop-Up Bar - it's the first one of the "uncanny business" type that I've ever watched, it also helped me get out of a long-lasting k-drama slump I was in at that time :) I loved the characters, their relationships, and the mystery of the past being slowly untangled in each episode. But I'm also very partial to the eerie atmosphere of "Handmade Love" :)
I watch it, but I confess I've learnt how to do it without having expectations. I love fantasy but not on Kdramas...…
I understand, we all have different tastes :) but it's also true that many fantasy k-dramas have a lot of potential but fall a little bit short of our expectations in the end. I was slightly disappointed for example in Tale of The Nine Tailed, and very disappointed in Doom At Your Service, even though I loved their original concepts... :)
I think its appeals to us stemming from the wish that someone could magically assist us in our mundane plights…
That's definitely one of the reasons we like to watch these dramas :) but it's important not to get sucked into the fantasy and lose the motivation to deal with our real-life issues on our own... :)
i'm always searching for this kind of dramas but sometimes it is difficult to find them 'cause their are so many…
Thank you ^^ Yes, we don't actually have a tag for this type of dramas... Fortunately there's this feature on MDL dramas pages called Recommendations and that's how you can find dramas similar to the ones you love :) I'm waiting for the second season of the Uncanny Counter, too ^^
First of all, congrats on your first article! I really enjoyed it, especially since I'm a fan of urban fantasy…
Thank you sm! :) The balance of "case of the week vs a story arc" is important in dramas like these, because, as you said, the episodic type plots may get annoying or not interesting enough. And I agree, it's better to have these few well done dramas, than over-saturate the genre with repetitive and mediocre productions. Thank you for recommending the Cat's Bar dramas! Somehow I missed them, but they sound exactly like this type of drama, I'll definitely check them out! ^^
I honestly didn't know what some of my favourite dramas had in common but lol you've given it a name. I feel like…
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it ^^ The Great Shaman indeed has many similar elements, but also a few tweaks from the "standard" uncanny business formula: Ga Doo Shim's mother has a business of being a shaman, but she does it very openly and it's not the main focus of the drama; Ga Doo Shim herself is still a high school student, and only works (reluctantly) on this one big case connected with her school. It's a good urban fantasy story nevertheless ^^
Ooohh, interesting stuff...So 2 thoughts...1. "Bring It On, Ghost" also comes really close to checking all the…
Thank your for the comment! I totally agree that the balance of fun and serious stuff has a big impact on the quality of the drama, and imo MPUB has done it quite well :) I haven't watched Bring It On, Ghost, but now I'm intrigued to see how this college club works, thank you for the rec! ^^
"Goblin" surprisingly ticks most of these boxes except for the "service" part. I can't get enough of this formula,…
You're right, Goblin indeed has many of the elements that I mentioned :D Actually it could be quite fun if he established a kind of business instead of moping around for so many centuries ;D Anyway, thank you for reading and commenting, I'm glad you liked the article ^^

I hope you'll have fun watching these two dramas! ^^
There's also a j-drama adaptation of xxxholic, I even watched the first episode, and you're right - it's exactly this concept :)
