Only watched The witchs diner yet and fell in love with this story. Like to watch more because the storyteling…
I hope you'll enjoy watching other dramas with similar premise! All of them are unique in their own ways, yet also similar thanks to this special narrative structure :)
MPUB has a lot of my favourite tropes, and I really like that each time there's a new customer with a new problem, the protagonists have to be really creative about finding a proper solution - it makes the drama very interesting to watch :)
well that's my fav ...uncanny business and a character with superpower ...just these 2 are enough to make me love…
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the article :) These are my favourite dramas, too, so I used to think about them quite often and that's how I noticed all these common traits ^^
I think I get it. Urban fantasy is a broader subgenre of fantasy and it has its own subgenres including Uncanny…
Yes, so the "uncanny business" could be considered a sub-subgenre of fantasy :) Both Twilight and Lucifer are definitely urban fantasy. I haven't watched Lucifer, but from the description I see that he poses as a nightclub owner - so if this is how he gets his "clients" whom he helps with his powers, then yeah, it could be called uncanny business :)
Mystic Pop-Up Bar and Sell Your Haunted House are two of my faves from this genre! I like how this genre isn’t…
Oh, you made two good points! Indeed there's a lot more to these dramas then just romantic relationships, and that's what makes them all the more interesting :) And yes, there's sometimes this typical thriller/political subplot, but it's refreshing to see it resolved with supernatural means ^^
i love this kind of drama. Even though they are different, still it gives me an interesting and something less…
You should definitely give Sell Your Haunted House a try, especially if you liked the other dramas that you mentioned :) SYHH has all the components that I mentioned in the article, so there's a big chance you'll like it, too! :)
Uncanny Business Urban Fantasy (UBUF) is one of my favorite genre in korean dramas! The best thing about UBUF…
Haha, that's a nice abbreviation :D It's my favourite genre of k-dramas, too! And I would definitely watch at least one more :) I agree that a large part of appeal of this type of dramas lies in the capable leads! If you haven't watched Handmade Love, I recommend it - it's the one with a badass male lead for a change ^^
So the subgenre is called urban fantasy? Lol, I don't even know it. I watched all you mentioned but one, so I…
Thank you! :) Well, I meant that the "uncanny business" dramas are the sub-genre of urban fantasy (which in itself is a sub-genre of fantasy...)) because they share so many common elements in their narrative structures! But "urban fantasy" is a broader term, and according to wikipedia: its narrative uses supernatural elements in a 19th-century to 21st-century (or equivalent) urban society. So dramas like Tale of The Nine Tailed, Legend of the Blue Sea, or Black are also urban fantasies :)
Nice article! I took a look at my watchlist, and out of 27 c-dramas that I watched, 19 have the trope of hidden identity... It seems like it's one of the most beloved tropes of Chinese scriptwriters and producers :D
A really cool article, I like how every actor/actress choice that you've made is well-thought and and justified, based on the actors' previous performances, and not just because they're your faves ^^ The choice for Leonard surprised me in the beginning, but the more I read your explanation, the more I liked it ^^ I agree that Lee Dong Wook would do great as a lovable nerd (with an attitude when needed :D)
Then let's wait together, hoping that in the future we'll get at least one more "uncanny business" drama with a strong FL ^^
And thank you for your encouragement for me to write more, I shall do my best when I have time ;)

Then I'll be waiting with you, there's never enough of urban fantasy stories for me :D
