Thank you for this article, it sums up everything so nicely! I'm waiting for basically the same dramas as you do - the ones with Miles Wei, The Shadow, An Eternal Thought, as well as Back from the Brink ^^ I also hope that The Abyss won't end up on the shelf for too long!
Great article! Under the Power is one of my favourite dramas and I agree with everything you said about it :D I don't like modern romantic c-dramas though, so I plan to watch One and Only, and then wait for his other upcoming costume productions - The Blue Whisper and Qing Jun :)
Very nice article, these artists deserve some promotion and recognition of their talents ^^
Zhou Shen is my favourite! Even though I've been listening to his songs for almost two years now, I'm still getting blown by every new single he releases :D I also like the unique voices of Zhang Bichen, Liu Yuning and Chen Xueran!
If I was to add someone to this list - it would be Hu Xia (e.g. "Untitled" from Word of Honor) and Tan Weiwei (e.g. opening song of The Rebel Princess) :)
Congratulations on your first article, I enjoyed reading it! You brought up very good points about enjoying historical and period dramas. I love watching them, even the ones that end up with a "sad" or "tragic" ending, as long as it makes sense in the context of the entire plot. However, sometimes I also have troubles discerning if an objectively (from the modern point of view) stupid decision of a character was made because of bad script-writing, or because it actually made sense in the depicted period of time. So... learning about history is always useful :)
As others mentioned in the comments, I find it hard to watch the dramas with harem in-fighting, my heart just breaks for these women because of the situation they've found themselves in, usually due to no fault of theirs. Also, it's hard to relate to the general concept of arranged marriage :) I can't understand how the parents, who ended up in an unhappy arranged marriage themselves, would later do the same to their own children. I mean, I know it's all for politics, economy, and often survival reasons, but still, on the emotional level it's still impossible to process for me ^^
It's a really nice article and good analysis! I think you've nailed the main difference between the two shows: the symbols, the meme potential, the possibility to re-create parts of the show in case of Squid Game... All these aspects definitely had a big impact on the drama's reception! I would also add the fact that Squid Game is more than less a complete story, whereas Alice badly needs season 2! So it's much more easy to recommend watching a complete story of Squid Game to your friends, than only half of the story of Alice.
You should definitely give Sell Your Haunted House a try, especially if you liked the other dramas that you mentioned…
Wow, that was quick! I'm really happy you liked the drama and Jang Na Ra's performance ^^ She is beautiful, without a doubt! And she looks good in black :D
Great article! I haven't watched any of the dramas you mentioned, but you've got me seriously interested in Live ^^ (and yes, I bookmarked a spotify playlist with Live OST, as per your request :D)
I'm still the person who doesn't pay much attention and later can't remember most of the OSTs of movies and dramas that I watch, unless I make a very conscious effort to do so (or the OST really stands out); but ever since reading your previous article I actually have been making this effort more and more often, and thus I have an example of a drama which is very good on its own, but was made even greater by an amazing OST - Beyond Evil :)
Still, usually it's enough for me for the OST to not be jarring or too much out-of-place ^^
i personally loved this type of drama so im waiting for someone to finally talk about it, i love your article!…
Thank you, I'm happy you liked the article! ^^ Yep, your list has all the good stuff :D Shimeshi sounds like an interesting drama, I'd like to check it out in the future! You can add "Taste of Cat", "Cat's Bar" (although this one seems to be currently impossible to find with Eng subs), and "xxxHolic", mayyybe also "Sutekina Sen Taxi" :)
Thank you for this nice article! I didn't know much about this drama before, besides the fact that many people were praising it; now I have a bit more understanding as to what type of drama it is. I'll definitely try watching it one day ^^
To answer to your question, I've only watched The Uncanny Counter. I would say the genre caught my attention,…
Hmm, I'd say that Hotel del Luna indeed is the most romance-oriented one of all these dramas, so there's a chance you'd like it :) Although, if you prefer more comedy and warmth in your drama, Mystic Pop-Up Bar would be a better choice - there are two couples there as well :)
