I see some of us are frustrated with the Princess, me included. I mean, she must have been blind not to see PWX is so smitten with her, yet she tramples on his feelings over and over. Ep 20 was the climax of her idiocy. Didn't really see that the guy was in love with her, didn't really see that he was willing to die for her, willing to move heaven and earth for her.
In her defense, I try to put her in the setting. Be a princess, dealing with palace and noble families' politics where everyone is out to get everyone including bloodlines, all for power, she can't trust anyone, she can't open her heart in fear of losing control, showing her weakness.
Still, when he told her he could wait 10, 20, 20 more years, I was like, dear Princess, you don't deserve him.

Modern dramas, more often than not, we have FL who is either smart but struggle in her career or cinderella type. ML, on the other hand, is always smart, successful, and some were born with a silver spoon in their mouth - and somehow ML becomes FL's knight in a shining armor.
The leads' acting is great. Will watch to the end, but I feel they deserve better script.

I recognize few scenes from the novel. One thing that I hope the drama changes from the novel and It probably did. That it won't show 7 years old version of Yi Ning. Or else it may look like grooming as Shen Yuan was 7 or 8 years older than her. I know how sensitive viewers can be when come to age differences.

Re-watching and it still gets me every time. The anguish, agony of the love story and the mixture of clever comedy make me laugh, tear up, and laugh and tear up over and over.

I have watched a lot of C & K-dramas. But I don't get it, the fan culture. A show's main success, beside screenplays and directors, is the cast, especially the main cast, in this case the main couple who delivered outstanding performances.
It was not a one man show. It was not a success due to just one man.
But then the world is just swooning over the ML, gazillion of so called fan meetings and gazillion of interviews, all about him. What about the FL? not so much. She doesn't have much to do so she's on a free vacation whereas the ML is busy enjoying his fame.
Just the way I see it, y'all don't have to agree with me

If there were Razzie Awards for C-dramas, this one would definitely make the list for several categories.

This director has several hits under his name. So, I have faith in him. And hope for a good if not the best adaptation from a novel.
