I find the relationship between Consort Xiao and Sun Jing quite compelling and heartbreaking. She obviously still loves him, and it’s sad how she hated all those years living in the palace as Crown Princess, but she still feels her duty is to the dead Crown Prince and of course her son. She’s an amazing character, and the whole love story also makes Sun Jing a much more interesting villain.

I agree with you, I also don’t care about the ratings here. Haven’t seen your comments on Only for Love but I dropped it after 4 episodes - wasn’t my cup of tea.

Yep, and I am guessing being married to the Cui family would make LN too much of a threat that his family will be opposed to it.

Yes but I think it’s a bit different when he doesn’t have personal ambitions for the throne, and I think his end goal is to be with Ying. I think even in one of the teasers he says that he doesn’t really care about politics and just wants to be with Ying.

That would be my preferred ending!!

Started watching this after getting back from a holiday in Korea, and my favourite thing about the drama is that I visited so many of the locations that feature here - including the village/town where the 3 maidens live, the palace, and even the temple from ep 5. 😍 Feels almost nostalgic.

But aside from this, it’s such a lighthearted, feel good drama. I am really enjoying it, and while there seem to be mixed opinions about Rowoon’s acting, I think his comedic timing here is really good!

Yes definitely. It’s funny how he has actually already identified several couples but he doesn’t know what the heart aches means.

They seem to be following the “opposites attract” theme for all the couples so far. I don’t think the match for the oldest sister has been identified yet.

It’s so funny how he’s such a stickler for rules and tells other people off for all sorts of “inappropriate” behavior but here he is hoping to kiss a possibly married woman. 😂Does he even know that her husband died?

Yep I think that will be the case. I just hope Ying won’t end up stuck in a harem. I hate harem politics, and would rather see her have a genuine influence on the world. But I guess that was really difficult at the time as a woman with all the palace protocols.

I have been thinking a bit more about how people describe LN as a lovesick fool who doesn’t stick up for his goals, and I think people tend to forget that LN doesn’t actually have personal political goals or ambitions. His end goal for himself is to live a carefree life away from politics with his love. Given that he’s fallen hard for CL/Ying it actually makes perfect sense and is totally aligned with his goals that after they had a falling out (and he realised she hadn’t betrayed him) that he tries really hard to win her back.

I think he does care about justice and wants to restore peace, but I think that’s more because he feels a moral obligation to the country and his family, rather than having personal ambitions.

CL/Ying is a bit different I think. She had planned to restore peace with the Cui army and I assume her previous end goal was to have the Cui family rule the country. In practice, it would be impossible for her to rule herself given that she’s a woman. So I am guessing the actual plan was to put young master on the throne and rule through him.

I am not actually surprised that she’s now changed course. She realised there is someone young and capable in the Li family who can restore peace (which is important to her), and I think she’s probably also at the point where she’d rather see LN on the throne than young master. Plus LN is the much more legitimate option being related to the emperor. And while I don’t think she’s evil, I think she does care about having influence in the world, so she must be aware that by marrying LN in the future, she could also become empress and have influence on the country through that. (And she has feelings for him of course).

I can imagine that this might lead to some tension between them in the future, because LN has no ambition himself, but I think CL/Ying would likely want him to take on more responsibility and become Crown Prince in the future.

I also think when they talked about going to Laolan Pass and wonderland after the war, CL/Ying probably knew that it was a pipedream and wasn’t going to happen. I think she is definitely the more rational and realistic person of the two, whereas he’s more of a dreamer.

Anyway, I would still love to see them roam wonderland together in the end!

Couldn’t agree more! It’s interesting how people have such different takes on it. I love both the Leads and their dynamic. I am actually a bit worried that it might end up getting a bit boring if they’re now just on the same team with CL supporting LN. (Because FL has clearly shifted her goals now and wants to help LN). So maybe this is the only drama in the history of dramas where I don’t even mind if a misunderstanding happens because I find their frenemy/lover dynamics so entertaining.

I started watching it a while ago, but unfortunately had second lead syndrome because I did actually prefer the guy who had a childhood connection with her 😂 not because of the childhood connection but I found him much more interesting as a character and the actor is more charismatic imho. But you’re right, that this is probably one of the few dramas where the other guy gets the girl, not the childhood friend.

Okay just had a sneak peak and you’re right, it’s so impressive. I’ll need to add nirvana in fire on my watch list but will probably start with the first one! :)
