I like these types of dramas. It reminds me of Black Dog, which focuses on the public side of education, whereas this one focuses on the private side. The one thing I have come to realize in K-drama watching time is that SK desperately needs education reforms; learning shouldn't be a burden, and it shouldn't be a job -- it should be enjoyable, not filled with anxiety for the parents or the children. Hagwons pressure parents to enroll their kids in these superior programs, creating situations in which people (especially parents and, by association, their children) will do anything to be successful, even if what they do harms others. The competition is suffocating, or at least that's how it seems. Only by strengthening the public education system will the government provide equal opportunities or at least a fair chance for all students to get into a good university and not have to rely on hagwons or other forms of private education to achieve academic and social success. I think it will eliminate societal discrimination based on education. They have enough to deal with already.

I think the main reason Seo Hye Jin and Lee Jun Ho's parents were/are vehemently against him becoming a teacher and especially a Hagwon teacher is that he went to a prestigious school to gain a prestigious corporation job which carries it with valued if not coveted elite social status economically and socially. He basically threw away his hard earned social status (his parents sacrificed a lot to get him to that point, they made an investment in him by paying hagwon fees so he can go to a top university and have a better life than theirs) in a very status-conscious society, where a corporation job translates to a better life with a stable income. Its really out of concern more than anything else.
I expected to like The Midnight Romance in Hagwon and it far exceeds liking, I am loving it, and cannot wait to experience it full on from week to week.
Well, of course, you are a male. Yeon Woo Jin is 39 and Jang Seung Jo is 42 so, not that much younger than Kim Ha Neul. Her age had nothing to do with how poorly this drama was written and directed. I doubt even a 26 year old would have been able to save it. At this day and age to criticize an actress for her age, I doubt you would have said the same if was the other way around. Toronaga's son bothered me a lot. He was immature, jealous, incompetent, and too in a hurry to be what he wasn't ready to be or even couldn't be, made him dangerous even more so than Kashigi Yabushige and Lord of Ajiro combined, and Lord Ajiro bothers me majorly. I am not surprised he ended where he did. And let's not even talk about Mariko's husband --- Lord that man is so tightly wound up, life is just misery to him. The total and complete emphasis on unquestioning loyalty is admirable, as it is crippling, but I guess when that is the only way of life, one knows, it just makes it valuable. I am amazed by how valuable one's honor was at that time, how one couldn't even take one's life without permission from their lord. It was just fascinating and so totally and utterly different from present-day times. It shows how Japan was and still is, in some way, a group-focused society.
