He was powerful because he was the King of Chimeis. He was literally created by Liu Ming (previous Demon Lord) and the ingredients that were used included a Phoenix feather. At the end, he took Shen Li's place to be used as the fire seal. He sacrificed himself because the Xutian Abyss was then connected to the Extranatural Heaven and the heaven was breaking apart due to Xing Zhi's punishment. Once the Extranatural Heaven disappeared, so did the Xutian Abyss with Feng Lai inside of it.

I think he was just feeling her out and seeing what she would say. If she showed any sort of interest towards him, I think he would have jumped at the chance. But I don't think he was super heartbroken over just being buddies.

Sigh. It was amazing. A solid 10 for me. Absolutely loved how they gave us more scenes after he came back. I hate when dramas abruptly cut off with "I'm back!" and jump straight to the ending credits. This was absolutely beautiful. Great OST and especially bgm. I was impressed by the cgi as well as most of the costumes.
