The beginning was a little slow for me as I wasn't sure where it was going but my goodness after that it was sooo good. I love the maturity of the leads and the humanity of all of the characters, even the ones that are seemingly antagonists. The romance between the leads is just so sweet and perfect, I love the way they get through problems in a healthy way. This was really an unexpected gem, I'm so sad it's over 😭

OMG this drama is the epitome of candy. They are the absolute cutest. I like how Zai Zai reads Zhang Lurang's feelings so well. She noticed how he was a little jealous of the upperclassman and found ways to reassure him right away. 🥺 The USB thing was so crazy sweet. asdfasdfadf hope they just get stronger and stronger as we approach the end.

i'm actually okay with the slower romance at the moment because the stories are quite interesting. Chemistry between the leads is TBD, FL has too many walls up to build emotions between them but that's fine for now I guess since the other aspects of the drama are really good so far. 👀

ASDFASDFJKHAG WHAT WAS THAT ENDING. UGHHH WHYYYY. I don't know why they always have to make republican era drama endings so unsatisfactory.

This drama seems to have taken inspiration from the Taiwanese drama "The Fierce Wife" which is way less irrational and much better written and produced. 👀 This one is still entertaining though.

I can understand the dissatisfaction of the ending but like there was no way it would be reasonable for the leads to be on Gu Qingzhang's side. He literally had the red poison planned and was going to kill everyone regardless. He even said it himself that his goal was to stomp on the power the empress was obsessed with, he wasn't planning on sitting on the throne for long.
Zhang Ping and Lanjue want the truth and justice but they value their country above all.

Throughout the drama they were really battling with their own demons and questioning if their kin were actually bad people but i think learning the truth gave them a bit of closure and they were able to see past their anger. Lanjue's dad and Zhang Ping's mom would have hoped for them to choose a road of peace. I think the most frustrating problem is that the empress wasn't really punished and her demise lasted a really short time. Also, I feel like Zhang Ping should have had some heartfelt reunion with Qingzhang as brothers before everything plummeted into chaos.

Came here to comment on how wild the last episode of this drama was but realized the comment section and behind-the-scenes is even crazier💀 what in the shit is all this...why would would they have a livestream with victim and abuser...

Lolll love the reactions here but yeah no, sorry, not feeling the spark. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think when they first meet again in present times (EP 2), there was something there but when they started the back story, the friction between them as young students doesn't have that spark I would expect. Without that spark while they dislike each other, the sweet moments of when they are friends just fall a bit flat.

Also, regardless of how much she can emote through her eyes, the way Zhang Jingyi (or dubber?) delivers her lines in terms of emotions is pretty one-dimensional so their dialogue is also not very dynamic. I actually think that might be what's hindering their chemistry to me. I believe it'll get better when they return to the present but we shall see~

This drama is my happy place. It's so creative and the characters are hilarious and so distinct, it's great 🤩

I'm not really feeling the chemistry between the leads. If fact, despite their complete lack of interactions, I feel like even Li Xun and Fang Shumiao have more pull and chemistry. Zhang Jingyi is a good actress but I don't think she's the kind that can be paired with any actor especially actors like Chen Feiyu who are still at the beginning of developing their acting skills...
i will probably wait for more episodes so I can skim through to see if there is any improvement. =/

Damn some people are reading too much into this drama. Every country has deep, compelling dramas as well as dramas that are there for the fun of it for people to escape. This is one of those fun, fluffy dramas people can indulge in and enjoy with no stress. If you want something deep go rewatch Make Our Days Count and tell me how good you feel after. 😛🙊

Just finished this. I think I have the most unpopular opinion. I watched this for Li Jiaqi more than any of the other cast. I actually thought the main couple's storyline was really draggy and took forever. what could have been a spicy romance fizzled a bit. i skipped to see the 2nd couple. >__>;

Agree, I was super invested in his relationship with Hua Mei even though it was short 😅 i feel like they had more chemistry than the leads.

I don't think he's explicitly cheating but his behavior is unacceptable and inconsiderate to his wife. He also doesn't take any responsibility, always trying to brush it off when Duomei is upset. He tries to be the "good guy" to everyone including that other girl but it instead just hurts Duo Mei more. This all signals to a bigger problem at its core though. They have a lot of communication issues. Duomei isn't perfect either. Both sides like to put up a "all-is-well" front so they never really share their true feelings with each other.

I love watching Duomei snap at her husband 🤩. He's such a spoiled princess. She's so tactful in how she handles some of the problems, always making sure she won't stoop to other people's level.

The fact that each episode is so short is so painful 😥😥😥. This is my newest guilty pleasure.
