I wish I could DNF sometimes...
This is my first time watching a short-length C-drama.At first, the title intrigued me (I love twisted and morally grey characters), but sadly, this was a mess...
I loved everything (especially the OST and the costumes) but the story? who wrote this?????
I had no expectations, yet I'm still really disappointed.

Cute Cute Cute
This was such a beautiful and cute story! The first few episodes felt a bit weird, mainly because of her age and appearance—I mean, she didn’t exactly look 16... But for me, the *real* story starts around episode 7. Everything before that felt more like a prologue. I absolutely loved her reaction, it was both funny and heartbreaking. ( She literally made up an online boyfriend just so she could go see him, except... there was no online boyfriend. She just wanted to see Jiaxu and confirm that he had a girlfriend. )This is exactly the kind of thing a typical teenager would do, and that’s why I enjoyed this show so much. But let’s talk about Jiaxu, because they did him so wrong. He’s not even that old, yet in the last 10 episodes, they almost made him seem like an *old uncle*. Maybe it hit me harder because I’m close to his age, but come on, he has an amazing career for someone who *just* graduated... a little too unrealistic, but I get it, the target audience probably wasn’t people over 20.
That being said, I *loved* the cast. The male lead is ridiculously cute, and as for Zhao Lusi... well, no need to say more—everyone already knows she’s the best

Disappointed
First of all, I'd like to say that I didn't hate this drama. It has good points but more bad ones.1) The cast is on top. Great actors.
2) Good cinématography and action scenes
3) Good idea of the story to begin with
But ('cause there is always a but)
1) The character weren't developed as much as I would like them to be
2) I didn't like how the story went from ep 5 it was boooooooorinnnnnggggg
3) it would have been better in a movie format
4) unnecessary sex scenes
Overall the story killed the actors, but it's still watchable.

TRAUMATIZED
First of all, I have to say that I had no idea this drama even existed. A friend suggested we watch it together because she liked it when she first saw it 10 years ago. And… how can I put this? I absolutely hated it. By the fourth episode, I had already had enough.I swear, I wanted to strangle those two so-called "mother-in-laws." If I were in the daughters-in-law's place, I don’t think I could have tolerated it for a second.
The first one (Kimchi Ahjumma) is an absolute nightmare to that poor working woman. She should be slapping her own son for being completely useless! And the second one? She might as well marry her son and shut up ! she’s constantly shaming that poor girl for not having children while she spends all night with her useless son.
And don’t even get me started on the main couple’s love story it was completely useless. Every time I tried to put myself in the FL’s shoes, all I could think was: I WOULD HAVE RUN FROM THAT HOUSEHOLD, NOT TRIED TO MARRY THEIR SON!!!
As a conclusion, I can say that I’m traumatized because, even though this is a work of fiction, it reflects the harsh reality of mother-in-laws, not just in South Korea but in many countries, including mine. This drama is exactly why I can stay single and die alone without regret.

Sorry not sorry
Honestly, I feel like I didn’t watch the same show as everyone else, because I found it incredibly overrated. I’m not saying it was terrible, but I definitely don’t think it deserved the ratings it got. First of all, the love-hate dynamic between the main leads was poorly done — their chemistry felt flat, and I found both of their acting performances shaky at best. I actually preferred the secondary couple they were much cuter and more genuine.A lot of people said the political plot was hard to follow, but I found it surprisingly easy to understand. Maybe it’s because I’m used to more complex storylines, I’m not sure, but in any case, it really wasn’t difficult.
I ended up watching the series at 1.5x speed because it was just too slow — nothing particularly engaging was happening. The main leads' relationship lacked depth and intensity, and it just didn’t pull me in. And don’t get me started on the length: 36 episodes? That was way too much. I’m convinced the story could’ve been told in 20 episodes without losing anything important. So yeah — to me, it was definitely overrated.

Really good but....
I liked it, don't come for me! It just had some flaws...1) First of all, it was way too short. I KNOW that can be a good thing too, but seriously too short!!!!!!! Give me at least 1-hour episodes, please! I barely had time to get attached to the characters.
2) We also never really got to feel them as a true team because there wasn’t enough time to show their bond developing.
3)AND, some parts felt a bit too unrealistic especially the action scenes.*They just didn’t feel convincing enough,i mean it was a bit too much.
That being said, I did spot some really good points.
1) The second male lead—WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN BEFORE?! Such a natural actor! Same goes for the nurse, both were amazing.
2) The special effects, the blood, and the surgeries were incredibly realistic,
3) The cinematography was smooth. Plus, the humor wasn’t cringe at all, which made everything feel even more natural.
It had its flaws, but overall, I still enjoyed it and i'm waiting for a S2 !!!

Good drama
First of all, the outfits were AMAZING I say that every time I watch a historical C-drama, but this one really stood out. It’s my first drama set during the Ming dynasty, and as always, the hanfu style was absolutely beautiful. Now the father… what can you expect from someone who killed his own father? He’s a hypocrite to the core doesn’t love anyone, yet somehow managed to deceive everyone.
What I loved most about this drama is how it plays with perception. We’re blinded by the image of those hypocrites we thought the mother was the villain for not welcoming her daughter back, but she was actually protecting her. Same goes for the concubine we expected her to be a source of support, yet she turned out to be evil. That twist in perspective made the drama feel incredibly realistic to me.
Conclusion: Don’t trust people too quickly. Take your time to truly get to know them.
P.S.:My dream is to be this cunning 😝

A cultural experience
As a Muslim woman living in a "Muslim" country, watching this show initially caught me off guard with the “Islamic” elements—it was a bit of a shock, honestly. They were praying, talking about Eid al-Adha... and then drinking alcohol?? That really threw me off at first! But then I reminded myself: it's just cultural differences. Everyone lives and practices their faith in their own way, and that’s okay.
This show ended up being a really unique and moving experience for me. I felt like I was living those moments right alongside the characters. I truly loved it. (Also, the male lead? Super cute. The mother SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! )
I wish they were more c-dramas about ethnic minorities.

I LOVED IT!!!!
At first, I was a bit hesitant because of the 7.5/10 rating—it didn’t seem that exciting to me… BUT I AM SO HAPPY I WATCHED IT ANYWAYYYYYY!!! It was seriously funny and exactly the type of drama I didn’t know I needed.I loved the FL because she’s truly mature, she knows what she wants and tries her best for her husband, even when it’s... how can I put this? HARD! She even considered having a baby for him, despite being clearly traumatized by children. Of course, she makes mistakes, but she’s human, after all.
On the other hand, we have the ML—a genuinely "good guy." And like most men, he has no idea what to do to make things easier for his wife. 😭 At first, he seems like the typical good-for-nothing husband. Even when he does something right, he doesn’t do it at the right time or in the right way (classic XY species behavior). But as time goes on, we start getting attached to him. And she was right—"Even if he’s not the best husband, he is surely a good father." Unfortunately, he is sterile…
The last episode SHOCKED me! I never expected him to be Rain! For real—I was convinced it was the pharmacist, then her "ex," but never genuinely thought about him. Because I still believe the charming prince tale i guess lol.
In the end, some of their interactions screamed red flag, but honestly, every human has a bit of red in them. Nobody’s perfect—we just need to find the one who makes us feel better with than without.

~~merci~~Was this review helpful to you?

They ruled the world
I really liked this drama, but, because there’s always a "but", it felt a bit too long, especially in the middle. I could easily divide it into three parts:Before Feng Lanxi’s political life : This was actually my favorite part. It had lots of funny and cute moments, and the pacing was great.
Feng Lanxi’s life as a prince : This section dragged a bit, but I still enjoyed it (I love political and palace dramas). That said, it definitely could have been much shorter.
The love and war arc : The pacing here was all over the place. Some scenes felt super rushed (Pu’s death, Bai Fengxi’s family tragedy, and her ascending the throne), while others were stretched out way too much.
The ending left me with a bittersweet feeling. It was good, but… why put us through all that? As a fan of tragedies, I would have preferred an honorable death for both of them rather than just Lanxi having 10 years left to live.
Anyway, it was really entertaining. Zhao Lusi >>>
